Basically I'm just curious, if we never found the bible, would we even know Jesus Christ today?

Correct. There is no other evidence to coroborate the stories in the Bible.

There are a few other passing references to a character called Jesus in the real historical sources but as Jesus was a pretty common name in 1st Century Palestine it may be someone completely different. The only other accounts are the Bible and they need to be taken with a very large pinch of salt. They are all written many, many years after the event and by sources that are far from unbiased.

Yes...

“There's no reliable evidence that Jesus even existed. The story of Jesus is just a myth bolted together out of prophesy and stories from the Old Testament and previous myths -- created in the 40's and 50's by Paul of Tarsus (who exhibited evidence of epilepsy and had delusions of Christ talking to him), the other apostles, the unknown authors of the gospels in the 70's or later, and many other people. The reliable evidence for this is overwhelming.

Paul and the other epistle writers don't know any biographical details of Jesus' life, or even the time of his earthly existence. They don't refer to Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee, Calvary or Golgotha — or any pilgrimages to what should have been holy sites of Jesus' life. They also don't mention any miracles that Jesus was supposed to have worked, his virgin birth, his trial, the empty tomb, his moral teachings, his disciples, or even when he existed. To them Jesus was largely a sky-god, who existed in the spiritual past.

If Jesus had actually existed, Paul would have written about his life, disciples, and teachings. Paul did not write about any of this.

If Jesus had actually existed, the gospels would have been written in first person format. Instead, they were written in third person format like a Harry Potter story, with Matthew and Luke extensively plagiarizing from Mark.

If Jesus had actually existed, at least one of the approximately 30 local historians of the first century would have written about him. No historian of the first century wrote about him or his disciples.

Therefore Jesus didn't exist.”

The bible is what is called "Faction” A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!

At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

Christianity is an invention of the Italians and that is why it came from the Holy ROMAN Catholic church!

Please realize that those claims for the Old historians are worthless since they were not even born until long after everyone in the stories would have been so long dead!

Josephus AD 37 – AD 100

Tacitus AD 56 – AD 120

Suetonius - 69 – 130 AD

Pliny the Younger, 61 AD – 112 AD

Justin Martyr (Saint Justin) AD103–165 AD

Lucian - AD 120 -180 AD but he was hostile to Christianity and openly mocked it.

Pamphilius AD 240-309 AD

Eusebius AD 263 – 339 AD

Photius AD 877 – 886 AD

Thallus - But there are no actual record of him except a fragment of writing which mentions the sack of Troy [109 BC] Showing that he was clearly not alive in biblical times.

Some even try to use Seneca. 4 BCE – 65 CE but as a Stoic Philosopher he opposed religion yet made not a single mention of a Jesus or Christianity!

Even funnier is trying to claim Celsus AD ? – 177 AD Who said that Jesus was a Jew who’se mother was a poor Jewish girl whose husband, who was a carpenter, drove her away because of her adultery with a Roman soldier named Panthera. She gave birth to an illegitimate child named Jesus. In Egypt, Jesus became learned in sorcery and upon his return presented himself as a god.

you ought to learn facts "sarah"

Only biblical scholars believe "jesus" existed , and even these ignore what the bible says and construct a "persona" around several people who actually existed at that time (they had different names, lived at a different times, and came from a different place)

you should also read what "nous" replied about "faction"

Just cos somebody writes a book which is contains people who actully lived and events that actually happened dont mean the character THEY write about actually existed

The film "titanic" is about a ship that hit an iceberg and sank

ALL the major events in the film are fact, and can be researched by anybody but the character jack dawson NEVER went on it

same it true of the bible

(the supposed reason for joseph and mary going travellign for a "census" is absolute rubbish

There was NO census at that time and for decades either side of it

the romans NEVER required anybody to go back to their "birthplace" for a census

The ONLY reason thats in the NT is to make the "birth" of the supposed jesus agree with a prophesy in the OT)

Yes it is. God wrote it and this is the only book that we can read about the Lord Jesus; why he died for his elect and his death and the end of this world. There is no other book that was written by God. The book is alive., It is not a regular book at all. God teaches that he speaks through his word. The bible is the greatest book ever written.

Nope! In the Caves found in Israel in 1947 were lots of other history books also! At least thirty of them. believe on can even get them on CDs.. Plus all the records in Counties that wrote down what was happening. Look at the three Kings that came on Camels to see Jesus with gifts, before Israel even knew about Jesus!

The Holy Bible is the only source all true Christians should trust for truth and accuracy. (John 17:17)

Yes, and the gospels were written 70-100 years after the supposed birth of Jesus, and they disagree with each other on all the important points. We have no extra-biblical references to Jesus until about 150 years after his birth.

Yeah. It says Jesus claimed to be holy and commit miracles and stuff, and they're taking his word for it. For all we know the stories were wildly embellished, but church people want to assume it's all true.

Whats to say the bibles words are true? Maybe there was no Jesus?

We'd know because of word of mouth testimony handed down through the church. But it seems inevitable that one or more of His surviving disciples--members of that embryonic church--would have written a book.

Pretty much. There are plenty of historical references to the existence of Christians, but not to the existence of Jesus himself.

we never "found the bible"... you make it sound like if it was found in the middle of nowhere by accident...

The books of the bible were inspired by god, writen by men, and later the catholic church put them togheter.

now, to answer your question, it was within the plan of god to know about jesus...and you cannot go against his plans beyond a theoretical level.

No.

We have all of Creation around us that speaks of God. just look around you, everything you see was created by God. We also have the Holy Spirit who will show us everything about God. People would still follow God if we had no Bible.

Scholars have a solid basis for believing that Jesus existed. Regarding the references made by first- and second-century historians to Jesus and the early Christians, the Encyclopædia Britannica, 2002 Edition, says: “These independent accounts prove that in ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the historicity of Jesus, which was disputed for the first time and on inadequate grounds at the end of the 18th, during the 19th, and at the beginning of the 20th centuries.”

In 2006, the book Jesus and Archaeology said: “No reputable scholar today questions that a Jew named Jesus son of Joseph lived; most readily admit that we now know a considerable amount about his actions and his basic teachings.”

The Bible portrays Jesus as a real person. It provides the names of his ancestors and immediate family. (Matthew 1:1; 13:55) It also gives the names of prominent rulers who were contemporaries of Jesus. (Luke 3:1, 2) Those details allow researchers to verify the accuracy of the Bible accounts.
