Since I am a human and also a muslim, and also a Malaysian,I will answer your question while providing links for you to read and do deep research about Islam before accusing:

1)Apostates: Should they be killed or saved?

http://www.answering-christianity.com/apostates.htm

It is true that there is no compulsion in Religion.

2) I would also love to critic the way Malaysian Government implement the Shariah Law. First and foremost, there are muslims in Malaysia who of course have weak uphold of Islamic religion who consume alcohol. Instead of making sure that all the people who are involved in it to be punished, the government only choose to punish those who admit it only for example Kartika which is really absurd and the rest are just left like that just because they don't admit it. The government is at FAULT.

3) Alcohol-Based Medication IS PERMISSIBLE.

http://www.islamawareness.net/Alcohol/fatwa_alcohol002.html

In Kartika case, the comsumption of Alcohol was not for treating her illness neither she was being forced to drink it, rather it was simply her own act without any strong acceptable reason.

4) Most people think that drinking alcohol is a minor matter when that matter is being discussed on individual perspective. But that's not the reality when it comes to all parties that are affected due to Alcohol.

Muslims who delete this question will be held responsible by Allah in hereafter for not defending and guiding the others to the real truth of Islam.

Furthermore, there is nothing to be proud of human made law. This is the most devasting "achievement" throughout the human life history. The rate of crime is increasing throughout the world. One example is USA:

Well this is more a politics question if you ask me.

I am a Christian but I think the reason why the Islamic countries still use archaic froms of punishment, is because the incumbent political leaders are traditional fundamental Muslims.

They use the old religious rules as a standard because of their beliefs.

Also there is usually no separation between Church and State in those counties.

So much of the law and government is based on the Islamic religion or Islamic law as it is called.

Though I think that many Muslims are more progressive and disagree with the way their governments are run because it is based on negative and outdated parts of their religion that really shouldn't be emphasized.

If a progressive liberal leader was elected the laws could be changed, but I don't know how likely that is.

Apostasy is a state of mind. There is little the state can do. The beatings and ostracism could be used however as evidence that the interpretation of Islam is not a peaceful one.

Its either caining/lashing for alcohol drinking or the death of innocent victims by him.

The death of innocent victims are more important than the alcohol drinker who willingly puts himself and others at risk of his danger.

check the american & european alcohol related car deaths and such.

Saving 2 people is more worthy than one.
