George Carlin was a smart man, he said that the media always keeps us focused on the things that separate us. Race, RELIGION, sexual preference, class, status, etc....

The problem is Humans have a blind spot in the mind and for some this can be a real hindrance to their understanding and has been exploited beyond belief by the above

Absolutely right. And credit where credit is due, it must have been so tempting to John Mcain to follow in the footsteps of bush and try to drive home the whole "God, Gays & Guns" thing but he refrained.



My girlfriend would point out that Fundamentalists believe that the key to making the country better is to make it more biblical. LIke falwell said after 9/11 about the gays and the feminists. Then once women know their place, abortion is illegalc gays are ostracized, and everyone prays in schools then god will magically bless us with peace and prosperity.



The dichotomy is between those who believe that the way to make this world better is through cause and effect in this world, ie, comprehensive sex education leads to fewer std's and teen pregnancy than does abstinance only etc... and those who look to the next world for answers, ie if we do what god wants he will reward us



the formeer will be anxious to work together to make this a better place country world etc, the latter will focus on superimposing their beliefe system on the constitution for the good of all.



The question is "how do we reconcile this"



For the record I'm with you and I think the answer has something to do with our public education system.

I agree, Which is why liberals need to stop their nonsense and come over to conservatism . George Carlin was not a smart man, But a liberal immoral man who contributed nothing positive to this world and made money of telling perverted raunchy jokes and promoting his liberal ideology, Although I sympathize with his family, His passing was no great loss . Division does weaken people, But merely coming together for the sake of coming together not caring what cause were united behind is reckless to say the least. You say the media keeps us focused on things that separate us, You give the liberal media to much credit, These issue are important ones to be cared about, If you think men marrying men is not an important issue, Then you need to take a look at societies that have adopted this behavior and are no longer here to talk about it . The Roman Empire, Babylon and Ancient Greece thought they were as you put it " Freeing themselves " Too, By living lives of debauchery, Is that what you mean by freeing ourselves ? Us living any old depraved way men see fit ? I think your recipe for success is a recipe for disaster .



And what's your definition of goodness ? The same as Obama's ? Allowing women restriction free access to slaughter babies to escape responsibility ? Or allowing homosexuals to prance down the street in butt less leather chaps hand in hand like they do in California ? That's not my idea of goodness .

Divide and conquer is the way I approach the catfish buffet on Friday nights.



The objective is to eat as much of the expensive food (catfish, ribs, steak, and pork chops) without filling up first on the cheap food (salad, hush puppies, fries, beans, and of course, tea).



I can eat about 1 1/2 lbs of catfish, 8 oz of steak, 4-5 ribs, a pork chop, and finish it off with a piece of chocolate pie if I don't eat much of the cheaper foods.

I like Carlin's earlier work, but the media portrays what ever gets them ratings. To see it as some kind of conspiracy or intentional game plan is paranoid and naive.
