Question:
Do Evangelical Christians use homosexuality as a basis for religious intolerance?

Pat Robertson said today that Matthew Shepard's murder was not a hate crime. Just because somebody is gay does not mean they are immoral but the religious intolerance of Evangelical Christians towards homosexuals is appalling.

yes. and they use religious intolerance as a way to reinforce their group ideology.

In the end it's not really about homosexuality at all. It's all about power and control within the organization.

Losing faith in my religion was very depressing. I was born and raised LDS, but I didn't always believe it until I was 19 yrs old and decided that the church was true, and that I should be a missionary. Well, I did that and being a full time worker for the LDS church taught me a lot about the history of the church. I realized on my mission that the church was not true. It was devestating. I had previously believed in it 100%. I was sure it was the truth about the world and the universe. God ruled and he lived near Kolob. Learning more about it, though, I realized that it wasn't truth. Joseph Smith was a con-artist. And I didn't know what to believe about God. I have recently, after almost ten years of depression, come to the realization that God is a myth. The Bible is myth. Adam and Eve did not exist. The tower of babel is just a story. Science has made life better. Religion has made it worse. Life is slowly getting better. I'm coming out of the depression. But, the economic crisis isn't helping. Is this God's punishment? I'm sorry if this is my fault everybody. Kidding.

I can't speak for Pat Robertson. I can only state what is in the Scriptures about homosexuality. It is a forbidden relationship and in ancient times, was practiced in pagan Temples where idols were worshiped. The activity is condemned and considered a sexual perversion. Therefore, it would be considered unholy and not acceptable in God's eyes. Why? God said. You have to take it up with Him.

someone seriously said that that is absolutly repusive. i do feel that the intolerance of religions lead to hate crimes. it happens in every religion, the biggest reason why we pick on christians however is because they are main population of the u.s. and they are also very forward.

God does not approve of violence for any reason. He also hates homosexuality.

No. True Christians go by Gods standards that are in the following scriptures,

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11) . . .What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10 nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. 11 And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.

(Romans 1:26-27) . . .That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; 27 and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.

But He reserves the disciplinary action to Himself. No one on earth is authorized to kill, maim, or harm in His name.

Any murder is a hate crime. You can't murder in love and if you don't have love all that is left is indifference and hate. I never saw indifference murder anyone... at least not in the first degree. And anyway indifference is a form of hate.

yeah, many of them almost have this air about them like they symphasize with wanting to beat gay people themselves, which is why they are so against the 'hate crime' laws.

I'm against those laws myself, as i think assault and murder should hold the same stiff penalty regardless of motive, though. (Those laws are very selective anyway. Why is anti-white not a 'hate crime'?)

He said it was not a hate crime, because its come out that it was just a robbery gone horribly bad.

Christians believe God does not tolerate homosexuality, and that this is plainly spelled out in His Word.

You can do what you like, but don't expect the approval of the God of the Bible or those who seek to obey Him.

Can you tolerate that???

They certainly do. In my opinion, Pat Robertson is a dangerous idiot.

It's a hate crime.

I wouldn't have gotten picked on in high school if I wasn't gay.

I wouldn't have gotten thrown out of the house if I wasn't gay.

I wouldn't have gotten fired form all those jobs if I wasn't gay.

I'm intolerant to gays and don't give a damn if it makes me popular or not. I don't play that game

God is intolerant of sin,

We don't need an excuse. Homosexual activity is a sin....and thus wrong, not to be accepted as a norm for God as said:
