9 For if you publicly declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.. (NWT)

13 For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah* will be saved.”

v9 Lord = kurios
v13 Jehovah = kurios

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness but I have been through their 'Bible Teach' book and I have a copy of their New World Translation. I find it very strange indeed that they should ascribe 'kurios' to Jesus in verse 9 but then ascribe 'kurios' to Jehovah in verse 13.

Neither the King James Version, the New International Version or the New Living Translation use the name Jehovah in verse 13. That's because the name Jehovah did not exist until the 13th century. That name was unknown to all the prophets (in the Hebrew Scriptures) and to the first Christians. So what it's doing there in verse 13 of the NWT I can only assume is a deliberate attempt to deny the divinity of Jesus.

I know the Witnesses believe Jesus is a created angel and say he is "a god" and they have put the name Jehovah into the Greek Scriptures where it simply doesn't belong. The only reason for doing this is to deny that Jesus is God.

P.S. I just checked out Philippians 2:10-11 which clearly says that it is at the name of Jesus that every knee should bend and every tongue should confess that "Jesus is Lord." That's in the NWT, the KJV, the NIV and the NLT. Here, 'kurios' is rightly ascribed to Jesus. But then I spotted something very odd in the NWT in verse 9 where it says that Jesus has been given "the name that is above every other name." But there is no "other" in the Greek, so I can only suppose the reason for adding the word "other" is also an attempt to deny that Jesus is God.

P.P.S. As for Jehovah's Witnesses saying we must call on the name of Jehovah to be saved, go to 1 John 5:13 where it says that if we want eternal life we must put our faith in the name of the Son of God. That would be Jesus, then.

There are other Bibles that use the name Jehovah besides the NWT.

The divine name as it appears in Romans 10:13 in various translations

Hutter’s Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and German Bible

Rotuman Bible

Batak-Toba Bible

New World Translation

“Everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will get away safe.” (Joel 2:32) Two apostles, Peter and Paul, quoted this vital requirement. Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13

Paul added another facet to that exhortation when he asked: How will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? Romans 10:14

it is vital for all mankind to know the divine name. (Ro 10:13) This involves much more than just knowing what God’s personal name is.

It includes knowing also the person represented by the name and living in a way consistent with the purposes connected with that name.

It is the responsibility of all who worship the true God to be diligent in making his name known to others, as Jesus did. Joh 17:6, 26

Jehovah God promises to bless those who know, use, and honor his great name.

Isaiah also says I am Jehovah and beside me there is no salvation!

That's pretty easy for anyone that really wants to obey God.

Read Hebrews chapter 1 you see that Jesus is an exact image of God.

Jesus was made to turn you to Jehovah so Jesus saves you if you obey his example of worship to Jehovah.

So what you're saying then is that Jesus is actually Jehovah, according to that text. Interesting. I wonder if the JWs have caught onto that yet.

Well...though I don't support the insertion of "Jehovah" into the New Testament...

...in this very particular case there is a reasonable argument for doing so (a *weak* argument in my opinion, but a reasonable one). The argument is this: v13 is a quote from the Old Testament, a quote from a passage which uses the tetragrammaton.

Old Testament:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=joel%202%3A32&version=NIV;HCSB

Since v9 is NOT a quote from any known Old Testament passage, it can be reasonably argued that it does not *definitely* refer to the tetragrammaton ("Jehovah").

Personally, I think it clear from the wording that the author of Romans was intentionally drawing a parallel in this passage by his repeated use of the term "lord". I think it clear that in this passage the author was intentionally and purposefully equating the Lord Jesus Christ with the Lord God.

But...I admit that **it can reasonably be argued** that is not the case.

The passage in question, with "Lord" emphasized by me.:

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as LORD, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same LORD is LORD of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “Whoever will call on the name of the LORD will be saved.”

The only true God has revealed His personal name to His servants from the beginning. The oldest manuscripts we have, contain the name Jehovah over 7,000 times.

In the desire to be accurate, we have replaced it in our bible as it was in the beginning. The bible tells us that God created Jesus and because of his loyalty to God, he has been crowned the king of the kingdom of heaven and all things except one have been placed under his authority. God kept the hearing of prayer for Himself.

So, rightfully we call Jesus Lord as he is our king and our leader. He is however not our God. We worship the same God that Jesus did - Jehovah.

Matthew 7:15-23 New World Translation

15 “Be on the watch for the false prophets+ who come to you in sheep’s covering,+ but inside they are ravenous wolves.+ 16 By their fruits you will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they?+ 17 Likewise, every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit.+ 18 A good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, nor can a rotten tree produce fine fruit.+ 19 Every tree not producing fine fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.+ 20 Really, then, by their fruits you will recognize those men.+

21 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.

Here is the resurrected Jesus, what did he said?

John 20:

16 Jesus said to her: “Mary!” On turning around, she said to him in Hebrew: “Rab·boʹni!” (which means “Teacher!”) 17 Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers+ and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father+ and your Father and to my God+ and your God.’”

EDIT: Notice Jesus was called a teacher? Now what job, does a teacher have?

No, tell me what do you make of this?

1 Corinthians 8:

5 For even though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth,+ just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” 6 there is actually to us one God,+ the Father,+ from whom all things are and we for him;+ and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are+ and we through him.

Read it carefully and tell me,if can you see the difference?

Who was Jehovah talking to?

Genesis 1:

26 Then God said: “Let us+ make man in our image,+ according to our likeness,+ and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every creeping animal that is moving on the earth.”+ 27 And God went on to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.+ 28 Further, God blessed them, and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many, fill the earth+ and subdue it,+ and have in subjection+ the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving on the earth.”

Genesis 2:

4 This is a history of the heavens and the earth in the time they were created, in the day that Jehovah* God made earth and heaven.

18 Then Jehovah God said: “It is not good for the man to continue to be alone. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.”

Edit to comment: If you truly loved truth; if you truly seek truth.

You would never believe in the trinity.

You would Jehovah's name.

Since you let your beliefs overshadow truth, you have become a hater of truth.

(NASB) 2 Cor 4: 4 in whose case the god of this [b]world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving [c]so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God

if you believe Jesus is more than the image of God you are blinded by Satan.

My prayer for you is the same as Paul's.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ . . . 16 making mention of you in my prayers; 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened,

From past experience I have come to know you do not want honest truth, but prefer your beliefs over God's Word..

I also have come to know; context means nothing to you if it disagrees with your beliefs

[Quoted from the NASB. because it capitalizes quotes from the O.T.]

Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

Rom 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

Rom 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?

Rom 10:15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"

Rom 10:16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?"

Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

NKJV: 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”[g] Joel 2:32

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “LORD, who has believed our report?”[j] Isaiah 53:1

You will notice vs 13 & 16 refer to Jehovah and not 'the Lord Jesus'

What is the word from Jesus?

Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Joh 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Joh 17:3 "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Joh 17:26 and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

If you hide God's name by the use of the title LORD; you can't be loved by Christ, because Christ made his God and Father's name known to those whom he loves.
