Quran itself gives the reason:-

002.106

YUSUFALI Translation: None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?

The reason simply is that Allah wanted it to be that way.

However, there are other reasons of secondary importance as well. The holy Quran was revealed and addressed to the people of the Prophet's day primarily. Allah chose to reveal the Quran in a stepwise manner so that the instructions therein would be see application in society through influence of Prophet. It thus progressively stated several things, most pertinent of which is the forbidding of alcoholic beverages. As outlined by yourself, it was progressively forbidden so as to train the muslims in being better and better.

As to why should a progressive revelation be better: if the holy book were given in a final format in one revelation as a whole, it would have been just a theory on paper. But having a society successfully adapting to it and surviving in the world, in fact becoming a super power of the world in that day, obviously gets rid of such an accusation.

God did not change his word. It was people that changed it.

changes? u give example but read it as well brother no where God said alcohol is halal n later change his statement but Intoxicants were forbidden in the Qur'an through several separate verses revealed at different times over a period of years.

At first, it was forbidden for Muslims to attend to prayers while intoxicated (4:43).

Then a later verse was revealed which said that alcohol contains some good and some evil, but the evil is greater than the good (2:219). This was the next step in turning people away from consumption of it.

Finally, "intoxicants and games of chance" were called "abominations of Satan's handiwork," intended to turn people away from God and forget about prayer, and Muslims were ordered to abstain (5:90-91).

(Note - the Qur'an is not arranged chronologically, so later verses of the book were not necessarily revealed after earlier verses.)

if you look at it from outside islam, the muslims just made it up. if you look at it from inside islam, the other people who copied the words of the previous prophets copied them wrong.

The Koran has alot of inaccuracies... because it is not of God... God did not inspire the Koran, it is not the Word of God.

Unless you believe in the Moon god Allah... then it is the Word of the Moon God...

The Koran (Quran / Qu'ran) was written by men, just like the Bible, and all other religious texts. God's Words and Laws never change. Only the wording used by men change because our understanding changes as time goes by. I think that if we saw just how much of those holy books were actually words spoken to man by God, it would only be a pamphlet, not a book.

The Koran is not the truth. Muslims are being deceived.

Salam, All the ayat you mentioned are valid , that is why you find them in the Quran , otherwise the Lord would have removed the ayat that do not apply. now tell me : do not you know that many Muslims get drunk nowadays? your answer would obviously be yes, many Muslims get drunk , so the Ayah forbidding them from coming before the Lord in prayer still works, and for sure it still helps the ones who care for Allah to get out of the addiction. now see the other Ayat with care for Allah you will get a lot of guidance. There is no need for any translation or Tafseer yet there is no harm reading them, but one should always remember that a Muslim would never trust the translation or interpretation of the ayat and ahadith by anybody . No one can say it better than the Lord and His Messenger. the message is addressing each of us as if he\she is alone and is addressing us altogether in every time and age. the Lord in the message did not leave gaps for any human other than his messenger to fill. remember each of us is resposible for the content of original document before Allah. none of us is allowed to blindly follow anyone and none of us allowed to decide without Elm, so Elm is must for passing the exam of death and life.

Joseph, the Living God of the Holy Bible says his word will never change. The Koran is a man book of a dead god, so is subject to change as man changes. Would you expect something different?

If you seek truth---find Jesus, he is the truth no other can be the truth. He is the way, no other can be. He is life, he is light and no man comes to the Father but by him. The Father is the God of Creation, the Almighty God, God of Abraham, God of the Israelite and is my God.
