I feel like this because i think that me and everyone i know is going to hell. when i was younger i used to be a christian until i got older and started thinking more logical and no longer felt close to God. I also know a lot of wonderful people who aren't christians and they are great. I just think that it sucks that God would condemn people to hell because they don't have the same beliefs. I became agnostic but for the most part i believe that God is real. I would love for it not to be though, i'm much more comfortable with the big bang theory.
I really feel helpless because if God is real then i'm going to burn in hell for eternity. I just feel like its not fair and i love my life the way it is. Sorry i know this is all over the place but so is my mind. Help please.

When I was 5 or 6 and learnt about heaven and hell in school, I thought it better never to have been born rather than risk eternal punishment. I got over that at some point – probably not very long afterwards.

The idea of hell seems partly to have come from the Greek Gehenna from Hebrew Gehinnom, the valley outside Jerusalem. This became a symbol of condemnation because child sacrifices had been offered there (2 Chronicles 283 and 33:6). “They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.” (Jeremiah 19:5-6)

As Sheol, hell is just lying dead in the grave, and not selected for eternal life in the new theocracy or kingdom of God.

But there is also the picture of darkness and unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43/Isaiah 66:24 and Matthew 8:12). "... cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." and " But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

And in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, it says: "The rich man also died and was buried. In hell (Hades), where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' (Luke 16:22-24). And there's the Lake of Fire in Revelation. Greek culture was plainly influential in the eastern Mediterranean at the time, so would have been adopted and adapted among the beliefs of the time.

Apart from this there's the imaginative picture given in Dante's Inferno.

The more modern re-interpretation of hell as an emotional or mental state, or the unhappiness caused by the absence of God, seems to be re-interpretation by church leaders embarrassed by the obvious mythical nature of the belief. But emotions are caused by chemical changes in the brain, as is our mental state, so after death these just won't exist.

Like all myths, people re-interpret the meaning to fit in with what is believed over time, and the later beliefs are read back into older scriptures to re-interpret them in ways that the original writer or prophet could not have meant.

But being myth, we know that we don’t have anything like hell to fear.

People who had NDE's and saw God's Throne , and talked with Him say that they were cherubs there who all were bored and so pleaded with God to let them come to His "Growing-Up Place" , which He originally designed for Himself so He could learn to have unconditional love for everyone . Now , even the top scientist believe in Quantum Physics where the evidence supports the idea that there must be an "Intelligent Ultimate Observer" who is actually manipulating all matter for some unknown reason . And Jesus is obviously the most worthy person to place trust in . The evidences and witnesses of him is just too great to be dismissed .

There's two ways to approach things - arrogantly or in humility - I don't see arrogance in your question.

There's still a lot more thinking for you to do. I'm a Christian and I believe in the Big Bang theory - No one knows what "caused" the big bang, there are MANY MANY Christians that believe God is that cause. But that doesn't get you out of your mental dilemma. There's a movie called the encounter that addresses your idea of God's "fairness" and it boils down to this question; wouldn't it also be unfair for God to force people into Heaven who expressed no desire to be there? He doesn't.

I circle back to my inital statement: There's two ways to approach things - arrogantly or in humility - I don't see arrogance in your question. The bible repeatedly says that God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble, and from my point of view it also makes a very real connection saying that Grace is to help in a time of need. (Heb 14:6) So with where your mind is, you should humbly approach God with it and ask for the help your thinking. I sincerely hope this helps.

God is not real and hell does not exist. There is no evidence whatsoever of any of those things. I mean, look at it like this. Do you really think that God would care if people believe in him? He's a perfect being who lives in a higher dimension outside time and space and he gets really mad when people don't worship him enough? The whole concept is ludicrous. You truly have nothing to worry about.

Well, you just need to give up the childish fears of Hell.

But if you can't then think of it this way:

The god who would do what you fear is unjust; a monster, a tyrant. Evil.

Going to Hell is the only resistance you can make, and the only sin one can really commit is to obey the evil monster god in the hopes of throwing every other human into hell to save yourself.

If your personal sense of justice is greater than that of God, then obviously, Hell is the only proper place to go. I would insist on going rather than be counted with the slaves.

You're a hero; be proud.

Burning in hell for eternity is not a christian belief.

The Bible does not teach it.

Only imposter christians will try to make you think there is a fire in hell.

Why would a loving God burn people at all, never mind forever?

You've have been influenced by fake christians.

I understand. I think people use hell as a scare tactic to make people believe in God and/or following a religion. All I can say is try to live your life without fear.

"This earth is all of Heaven the unsaved man will ever see" D.L. Moody

The truth is you got older and are not thinking logically. All men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

If you were a Christian then explain this - They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. 1 John 2:19

Your unbelief is the problem, not God. "So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief." Hebrews 3:19

I had a similar problem and, years later, found it was associated with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Look into that. :)

No one HAS to go to hell. The solution is to repent and be born again.
