If God created the universe and life how is it that it took so long for Christianity to be a dominant religion? There were Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Asian religions that were/are polytheistic and its drilled into us that its mythology or false gods. Who's to say that? Historically it seemed that Egyptian religion was first and then sort of trampled by the LORD. Im just confused and very skeptical about religion just because there are so many (past and present) and so many different 'gods'. How does one know what to believe or trust?

No one really knows.

Ancient peoples appear to have had some sort of religion. Neanderthals buried their dead with flowers. Babies who were either killed because they were born too soon after a mother had just had one, or who had died, appeared to have been more than just put into a hole.

Gods and shaman have played roles in every tribe, in every society, and each made sure that he held power over the others in the tribe.

Christianity is only 2000 year old... a mere blink in the life of humanity.

And, you are assuming that Christianity is the only true religion. But any follower of any religion that has ever existed has always felt that theirs was the only true religion...

In a word or two, same dog, different collar.

And as an obtw, few assume any deity created the universe.

You'll get some intelligent discussion even on Yahoo Answers.

(Tho usually those occur in the evenings. Teens and housewives with children usually are on during the day.)

Science may not know every answer. (such as "What did indeed happen before The Big Bang? And were there other Big Bangs before the last one? ", But as well, few of them shunt unknown answers off into "god did it.'

For a scientist, an answer "we don't know yet." is perfectly okay.

People (Behaviorally modern Homo sapiens, archaic Homo sapiens, Homo neanderthalensis) have had burial ceremonies for a couple of hundred of thousands of years. Because that was hundreds of years before writing, we don't know much about them, or what beliefs in the supernatural they had. But it was probably different from group to group.

Also, if you're skeptical about religion, you don't have to stand on ceremony and say "the LORD". And I would like to point out that the Egypian religion was merged with Greek mystery religions, not trampled by monotheism. That Hellenistic blend was gradually replaced by Coptic Christianity over four or five hundred of years, and then shortly thereafter, Islam was introduced, and it gradually became the predominant religion over about five hundred years.

Believe and trust what fits you. Religion is a buyers market.

That's the question most of us ask and when we set searching we will indeed reach the truth.

I was born a muslim 'this being the faith of my parents. Iasked myself why should I follow this religion. Just because it says its the only true faith. but then all the other religions also do so. How am I to know which one is true? and how shall I make myself sure that God indeed exists and He is not a fiction.Iwanted to get to the truth without any outside influnces.

It was an ardous but a journey i loved.I would like to share this with you and everybody else who is on a jouney towards truth.I started from the basic question Is there a God? yes there has to be one I'm myself the proof of it science tells me that even the formation of a cell is such a complicated process that its impossible to think it could have formed on its own.Now the next question is if God is ther then did he leave us just like that or he sent guidance? this question is answered by the Quran to my satisfaction.Yes the Quran talks about the history of mankind thus: God created the first man and woman and he gave them all the knowledge and also the intelligence or will to make choices and also the ability to repent. Allah says in the Quran that he created death and life in order to TEST which of us are best in deeds.Yes Quran calls life a test (God has given a will to man and in turn wants man to surrender his will). So Adam and his wife were tested they were told not to eat the fruit of a certain tree because it was not good for them but they choose to disobey. And as a result of that they had to come down to earth to live. God says in the quran its inherent in man to sin but if he repents he will found God most merciful and forgiving so Adam and his wife were forgiven.

Adam was the first man and prophet of God ,many prophets came after him the Quran says that to every people Allah sent guidance and messengers. There is a Hadith of the prophet in this regard that Allah sent 1,2400 prophets. but each time human beings corrupted the message so Allah sent his last message through his Prophet Mohammad. And the Quran further says that the prophesy of the final messenger is mentioned in all the previous scriptures. for eg.prophet mohammad is mentioned in the old testament in deu ch-18 v-18 in Isaihch-29 v-12, song of solomon ch-5 v-16( hikko hikko marmittikkam wa kullo mohammaddim) the im of Mohammadim is a plural of respect. He is mentioned in the new testament in several places in John ch-18 v-36, john ch-14 v16, john ch-15 v 26, john-16, 7.

He is also mentioned in the Hindu scripture, Zorastrian, buddhist and many more (for details visit www.irf.net). so you see all the prophets are like pearls in a single cord ie ONE religion of God ie surrendering your will to that of your creator which in arabic is called ISLAM.

Hinduism is generally considered to be the oldest religion still being practiced today. This ancient religion was born when the Aryan peoples migrated to Northern India and first put their religious tradition into writing. The texts they created are the Vedas, which were written around 1,500 B.C.E. (before common era) and have greatly influenced Indian culture ever since.

Several other religions are almost as old as Hinduism. Judaism traces its roots back to the patriarch Abraham, who lived around 1,800 B.C.E. While the Jewish people are descended from Abraham, it was Moses who first recorded the Torah, the Jewish holy text, in 1,400 B.C.E. Most sources consider the date of the Torah as the beginning of Judaism.

Zoroastrianism is sometimes called the world's oldest prophetic religion. It's certainly one of the earliest religions founded by one person. Scholars are not certain when the founding prophet Zarathustra actually lived. Some believe Zarathustra lived in the 6th century B.C.E., while others trace his writings to the 14th or 13th centuries B.C.E.

India has been a veritable cradle for world religions -- in addition to Hinduism, both Jainism and Buddhism originated in India. The first of Jainism's sacred lords, called a Tirthankara, lived in the 8th century B.C.E. The last of these lords was Mahavir, who lived in the 5th century B.C.E. and was a key figure in spreading the religion. The philosophical teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha, spread around Asia after his death in 483 B.C.E.

Oddly enough, the two religions that dominate the world today are relative newcomers to the spiritual scene. Christianity began with the teachings of Jesus Christ around 30 C.E., and Islam started in 610 C.E. with the prophet Muhammad's revelation.

God always from the beginning of time has always had some one that worship him Noah for instance in the Bible it says he Walked with God and Abraham he was a very faith full one the bible says about him that he was a Friend of God then you have Moses all of these have been believers Of our God these were God's people But when God saw that his people(JEWS) were not Going to change he decided to let everyone in on eternal Life and so he sent his son Jesus to die for us then Christianity was born. But if you see through mans existence Man has Always had that spiritual need and maybe they are not worshiping Jehovah but they are worshiping some Type of god

To believe and trust? You are still responsible for your choices or refusal to choose. No one said it was going to be easy. Obviously you think it is important or you would not be posting here.

The ancient religions have been lost to us because of the changes of the countless centuries. Languages change and writing is a recent invention. Before that memorization techniques and myths were used to keep traditions alive.

But you can look at the present. Islam was born in the full light of history and all its claims can be checked. Christianity is also verifiable. Buddhism stands or falls on its own logic. All of these religions can be understood with effort and sincerity.

If you do make the effort, you will find that these religions are chapters of one book, leaves of one tree. Religious truth is progressive and relative as is scientific truth.

Native Shamanic beliefs go back to at least 60'000 years, (sixty thousand years). That is dated from the oldest cave and rock art, it is the oldest belief system anywhere. All subsequent belief systems originate from Shamanic traditions. Christianity is only 2 thousand years old. Islam about 1 thousand. :)

Practicing Shaman... quantum physics rocks.

Sumerian is the oldest religion found recorded.

As on how to know what to believe/trust, that is up to you. Follow what your heart/spirit/soul tells you is right, and walk you own path proudly.

Its kind of like dating. You just keep dating a bunch of losers until you give up and settle.

I hope I'm close to Athena when I'm finally ready to settle because Yahweh seems like a prick and I don't swing that way.
