Question:
What religion should I follow?
2010-05-15 17:00:32 UTC
Due to the fact that I know more about Science, I no longer believe there is a God.
Is there a religion I could follow that doesn't worship any kind of God?
Something that is realistic and not weird like a statue created everything and I have to worship it everyday.
Please give me your input, thanks.

Friend,

I respect science , because it tries to explore and logically tries to know what is the truth. It is Tarkam (logic ) So Science is welcome.

Modern Science alone is not THE SCIENCE.Previously there were so many sciences , some still existing.Ayurveda, Dhanurveda, Hasta Samurdikam, Astrology etc are still there.

But to day modern science has equipped itself with so many powerful instruments to bring out truth.

But what we are seeing is , a thing that is known as the cause for a disease , found by a science, and six months fades into past and another new theory is coming and accepted.

The invented ones ae challenged and many are lost to the next generation inventions. That is good .Ultimately we may find the TRUTH, if scientifically possible.

In the medical Fields Science has done miracles. It has brought relief.

But did Science bring happiness? I shall say no.

Science can not prove GOD.It says there is Energy, Cosmic Energy, which (sum total of energy in universe) is constant.

In spiritual field this energy is personified. The great Sages Saints and other great personalities have realized what this Energy is.

They saw it and described it too.

So religion was born.Any religion is GOOD as long as IT PREACHES UNIVERSAL LOVE AND NO HATRED.

So follow the religion you are born in.That way you can progress well.

It appears as weird initially, but gradually as you progress the curtains fall down and you see the Truth,

For a child ,Science too is wierd initially. But after some ten or twelve years , he learns it,.

Similarly the Spiritual science. You MUST FOLLOW IT FOR A CONSIDERABLE TIME to know its veracity.

You can not simply say '' all is Bogus' without tring.

That is my opinion.

If you're looking for a non-theistic religion Buddhism is the best out there. It doesn't worship God and is not in conflict with science. You have to learn about it from an unbiased state of mind though and not from the usual Western state of mind. Also avoid the misconception that the Buddha created everything and you have to worship him everyday. The Buddha is not a creator he's simply a human being who is awake. Being awake is simply attending to the here and now and realizing that it is impossible for anything to exist and not change.

Good luck to you! This is just my conjecture from reading your question. Take the test below if you want to try to find out for yourself.

Atheists don't believe in any kind of deity. But they don't follow a particular "religion" either (that would be a bit of a contradiction!).

You could read Richard Dawkins.

I don't understand why you want to worship something. There are many other ways of creating ritual(s) in your life (like birthday and/ or anniversary celebrations) without going the religious route.

Be creative. Use your imagination.

I would just relax and and allow my mind to work. If there is no God (your claim) what use would any religion be?

If it were me that decided there was no God, I would live my life to the fullest expression of that ideal. I don't know, but you would probably end up in the league of the many Atheists out there today, such as Richard Dawkins.

It is a good question and I would suggest that Atheism is also like a religion. Perhaps you could see how that fits.

Best of luck to you.

Based on what you've outlined there, the options I can think of are: atheist, agnostic, and maybe Buddhist. You might look into Buddhism: it's often considered a form of atheism because it doesn't exactly worship a deity. Buddhism also has a number of squishy relativistic ideas and is open to change, at least in principle--though personally, I still find it annoyingly long on sweeping statements and short on evidence to back them up (like other religions, not specific to Buddhism).

Islam is the Answer. Yes.

Look before you leap !

Before falling prey to any idea, be it your own or borrowed, please consider visiting the following website and learning Comparative Religion, and also comparing religions with your established Science.

The website for ALL is :

http://www.IRF.net

Here you can have a comparative study of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Budhhism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, Atheism

You could find a lot of clear Scientific explanations as found in Al-Qur'aan.

If you study with an open mind and unbiased inclination, you will finally find the Truth.

Wish you success and all the best in your search of a religion.

You don't believe in God, but you want to follow a Religion. Is atheism a religion. I am sure atheists have firm convictions but you seem to be lacking in that. You don't need to follow any religion. Just worship your self.

Truly the religion in the sight of God is Islam[Qur'an]

'And whosoever desires a religion-other than Islam never will it be accepted of him,and Hereafter he will be ranks of those who are lost'THE NOBLE QUR'AN ,3;85]

Islam is based on five pillars, testifying that there is no God worthy to be worshiped but Allah, that Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah and servant;performing the prayer;paying the Zakat[the purification due] fasting the month of Ramadan, and performing Hajj'

The shahada can declared as follows;

'ASH-HADU ANLAA ILAHA ILLA ALLAH,

WA ASHHADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN

ABDUHU WA RASUULUH'

The English translation is;

I bear witness that there is no Deity worthy to be worshipped but Allah.and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger'.

THE QUR'AN;

The Noble Qur'an is the final revelation from God.given to Prophet Muhammad[PBUH] Distinguishing Between right and wrong, the Qur'an guides those who are willing to be guided along the path of God,

Could go to a Unitarian Church. They still believe in god but are pretty open. Or some form of Buddhism.

If you really want a religion....

there isnt a religion that doesnt follow some type of god(s). buddhism is an example of one that doesn't though but they believe in reincarnation. if you don't believe in god, theres really no religion for you especially if you dont believe in god. religion is generally a belief in god.

if you want to worship something, it has to be a God right? -.-

you dont worship your friends.

A Satanist worships Satan so uh, Satan is still a 'God' to others.

So its pretty much not possible

Here's a passage from the book of mormon, scrutinize it with the microscope of whatever.

And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they must appear before the judgment-seat of the Holy One of Israel; and then cometh the judgment, and then must they be judged according to the holy judgment of God.

16 And assuredly, as the Lord liveth, for the Lord God hath spoken it, and it is his eternal word, which cannot pass away, that they who are righteous shall be righteous still, and they who are filthy shall be filthy still; wherefore, they who are filthy are the devil and his angels; and they shall go away into everlasting fire, prepared for them; and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end.

17 O the greatness and the justice of our God! For he executeth all his words, and they have gone forth out of his mouth, and his law must be fulfilled.

18 But, behold, the righteous, the saints of the Holy One of Israel, they who have believed in the Holy One of Israel, they who have endured the crosses of the world, and despised the shame of it, they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was prepared for them from the foundation of the world, and their joy shall be full forever.

19 O the greatness of the mercy of our God, the Holy One of Israel! For he delivereth his saints from that awful monster the devil, and death, and hell, and that lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.

20 O how great the holiness of our God! For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it.

21 And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.

22 And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day.
