There are restaurants in China serving "fetal soup" (the remains of an abortion) because of the supposed health benefits to it. This has GOT to be a sick joke, right? Please tell me it's not real.
And the "ghost wives" too, that can't be real.

it's an absolute hoax:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.jesus21.com/poppydixon/sex/chinese%5Feating%5Ffetuses.html

every site or reference given to support this 'fetal soup' story, leads back to each other for 'evidence' and 'sourcing', which, in itself, should be a HUGE red flag...another is that congressman frank wolf of virginia fell for it...he's a known idiot-sorry, no polite way to put it...another is that every site passing this story off as fact has an 'axe to grind' in support of the anti-abortion movement...and not one of them has shown any proof other than accusations that someone told someone who heard it from someone else...this is known as a 'blood libel' (google the term) and we Christians should be above that sort of rot

Ent Wife, I don't know what ghost wives are, but the fetal soup is a hoax. They also are accused of eating roast baby in Taiwan. A good friend of mine has served as an English teacher in China for years, and she says no matter what the Chinese do, they can't lay this rumor to rest.

Birds nest soup, on the other hand, is real. Yucky, but real.

It is an urban legend with anti-asian undertones that gets recycled and attributed to various Asian countries.

I've heard it told about Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese.

There's actually a horror movie (called "Dumplings") based on the story, which probably contributed to it being spread again recently.

I think it's true. The snopes page that everyone is pointing out is from 2001 and is talking about a different thing. http://www.raidersnewsnetwork.com/full.php?news=13015. It's a ways down on the page(it first has to go into the history of this), but its there. Crazy people out there.

It is false. Apparently the FBI did an investigation and found that these rumors were based of a picture that was actually an art piece and did not involve any actual fetus-eating.

my dear friend ,

the chinese have been at war with the u.s. since the 50's,they are at the point now of gathering weapons and ammo, with every dollar we spend at wal-mart and other mass retailers ,we are arming them against our children.

the government has wisely made them dependent upon us by letting them carry a large amount of our debt load ,as well as continuing to supply them with essential resources, and technology.

however this strategy can only hold them at bay for a limited amount of time.

as the chinese have been "civilized" for 5000 years or so ,they are a very patient people where it comes to obtaining their goals,i fear that our country is but a bump in the road to this juggernaut.

Scary... this may be true!

http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2008/feb/08020109.html

"New macabre manifestations of this conscienceless abortion mentality include the recent opening of five restaurants in the region of X, which began serving 'fetal soup' at the price of 300 Yuan (approximately $40) a bowl! Recent medical publications have praised the exceptional health benefits for the consuming of 'fetal remains' (this jargon allows them to overlook what this really is-unborn baby bodies). Therefore, local entrepreneurs jumped on the opportunity to distribute this new health breakthrough to the chosen few who could afford the price. So evil and scandalous is this fetal soup trade that the Government shut down the Web sites advertising the restaurants, in fear that they would scandalize the reputation of the People's Republic to outside countries and businesses."

I won't believe it until I've tasted it.

There's a reason "fetus" sounds so much like "feed us."

Considering they pay thousands for tiger parts to eat it may be true, but disgusting. Girls have not been wanted in China, only boys. With the one child policy many girls are aborted.

The Chinese eat rats. The Chinese eat tigers. The Chinese eat cats, and dogs and pretty much everything. Why wouldn't they eat fetal soup? It would come as no shock to me. Disgusting and abominable- but not shocking.

edit- I don't hate the Chinese, btw, I'm just saying what happens to be true about them.
