Do Christians promote extremism?

Do Christians promote extremism? I often meet Catholics and Christians that are so tied up in religion to points I never could imagine.

I mean look at the few cases where women have killed there young children to save them from hell. In fear of when they get older they will not be saved.

Has society twisted religion?

I mean people shun people who have sinned like a girl who has been promiscuous. I am not saying that it's ok to be promiscuous but shouldn't people of sin be embrassed not shunned? Or they put unjust blame on a female who's been raped.

I feel like it's all maybe got twisted and gone to far for the sake of our religion. I mean it's practically forced on us and we there for force it onto others.

I am not a atheist I realize people are going to get offended by this question I am sorry. There are also many positives things about this religion. I am simply asking a question and looking for opinions, not even opinions that favor mine, just simple opinions.

The word "few" is the operative word here. Just because a few people take something to an extreme, does not indicate that there is something wrong with what they were taught, only something wrong with their mental state.

You're mixing old practices and different cultures here. There are some sects that practice shunning, and there are some cultures that blame a woman for being raped. The shunning is to shame someone into repentance, and the blaming a woman for being raped is based on different views of sexuality, and has nothing to do with religion..

I think you see there is much wrong with the world, there are people who do horrible things, acts that make no sense. But trying to implicate religion as the reason is unfounded.

People do horrific things daily. Such as this woman who sold her 5 year old daughter into sexual slavery, and now the girl is dead. This is horrible, beyond comprehension. But if this woman had claimed some religious reason, people would be blaming religion. But in this case its just a human being without humanity. So it is with those who claim religious reasons. Mentally ill people may cling to religion because it gives them structure, but this does not mean they are mentally sane and that the religion the perceive is what is actually is.

Human beings do all sorts of odd and horrible things. That's just a fact, with or without a belief in God.

I don't believe that most Christians are tied up in their religion. I seldom, almost never, get into religious discussions with people I meet or know already. I have not twisted God, nor have most others, but I do think that there are extremes in every faith. I would really like an answer to why so many people are talking to each other about religion, off line. Go do something really helpful, instead of arguing faith. I asked our middle school kids if they discuss religion. They ALL say no, except in church. The elementary school kids know more than the high school kids do, because they are really engaged with their friends of all races and faiths. They know people are different, and that doesn't present a problem. None of the high school kids in my classes really discuss religion, except in comparison, and they aren't extreme. Yet, on here I read that people are bombarded by religious conversation. I guess we are living in a more diverse, more accepting area. Don't kids play sports anymore, or have after school clubs? Just wondering.

In the case where a woman kills her children to "save" them, that is delusional. Schizophrenia affects 1% of the population and often manifests itself with bizarre religious beliefs. So, a mentally ill woman gets a bizarre religious thought...that has zero to do with the actual beliefs of Christianity.

Shunning of people only occurs within the context of the church if the person continues to sin and flaunts it. The Bible does say not to have fellowship ( in church) with people who say they are Christian but behave in really bad ways. Plus, it is only when the person REFUSES to ask forgiveness. This is intended to bring the person to their senses and prevent them from harming the church. (For example, the Catholic church did NOT follow this Bible verse when the priests started abusing the boys, and look what happened. It was devastating to the whole church community--also people like Jim Bakker doing bad things and taking money). I guess this is like "tough love" that parents sometimes use for discipline of a teenager. Christians do NOT shun people who are NON-Christian, no matter how bad their behavior.

Does society twist religion? Of course it does. Because society is made up of people. And people are sinful, selfish, proud, crazy, mean, and whatnot.

Christians don't promote extremism. Religion, politics, controversial issues, and anything people can feel strongly about are breeding grounds for extremists.

We're human - we feel so strongly about certain things, and not so much about others. When ideas conflict, people become more and more passionate about their cause.

It's sad - especially when the extreme angle of these things start causing others to suffer. For religion in particular, the basis should be about love, compassion, and acceptance....and the extreme side of this can little resemble such sentiments.

Some Christians certainly do. Pat Robertson and his bunch, for example, saying that the US "had it coming" on 9/11 because of tolerance of homosexuals, or the many race-hating militia groups and the "Christian Identity Church." Other Christians and Christian groups certainly do not.

I would agree with you that those who use Christianity to harm others, to deny other people equal rights or to justify the murder of a doctor who performs abortions are twisted and have twsited their religion to a point where it is almost impossible for me to understand, but I also note that there is a huge amount of variation among the umbrella that is Christianity.

What positive things does religion do that a private group of non-religious people can't ? Charity's, counseling, food programs, those all can be done without the separatism and Hate.

So that means that everything the church does is Extreme and is done just to spread itself along and trap people. A world full of Religion is no world I would want to live in.

I think the Bible should lead people to extremism. But, if they're really being extreme about it, they're actually going to follow what it says and not go around killing people. People should be on fire for God and wanting to share what He's given them with everyone else. I would encourage you to read the book Jesus Freaks, by DC Talk. That's the kind of extreme I'm talking about.

Some "Christians" just have their beliefs twisted up and blown way out of proportion.

Abstinence in the previous marriage is hardly intense; truly, it truly is an important education for a dating that demands one to "forsake all others." you're maximum appropriate on your diagnosis of recent testomony suggestions approximately celibacy. Celibacy is needed for missionaries who stay risky lives, like Jesus and Paul. there's no way those adult males might have saved marriage provides and delivered the Gospel to a sin-ill international. Catholic monks with comparable missionary common jobs wisely forswear marriage. in spite of the undeniable fact that, there is sufficient scriptural help going returned to Genesis 2 that we are designed for marriage. If we are to be fruitful and multiply, we desire marriage to grant the two parents to the hot human beings we procreate. Cheers, Bruce

You get oddballs in every group. The woman killing her baby out of religious beliefs is bad enough, but to strap a bomb on oneself and kill 100s in a shopping mall, while yelling Alla alla, is just mental.

I don't think so. At least not in the blow-yourself-and-others-up kind of way. More like being willing to give everything, including your life, for it (but not taking the lives of others with you).

Christians are often wackos who believe that it is ok for them to be wackos because their fairy forgives them, and so they have no incentive to become normal. Yes, that is extremism.

Some do, some don't. Easy, eh?
