Why do Christians think our tax money should be used to promote their religion?

Why do you need PUBLIC OWNED property to put up your stupid nativitey scenes? Is there a shortage or Church property or something? I don't want to see it and I, as a tax payer, certainly don't want to pay for it.

Bible Nazis believe it is a violation of their rights if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat. They must be stopped.

I am not very much into nativity scenes myself. However it is not really a promotion of religion. It is more a cultural thing. It is often very much appreciated even by a lot of non-church goers. Usually churches offer to put up a nativity scene. They don't demand it or beg for it. They put it up because it is appreciated. They could put it up in their own building, but nobody else would get the benefit.

In any case, public property belongs to the people. Church people are people too. As long as things are done in an orderly way, any legitimate group should be given permission to set up something, temporary, at least, on public property. Is there an association of atheists in your town? Do you have a special event to be remembered, or a person to be honoured? Why don't you ask for permission to do that too, some time during the year, instead of being envious of churches that do it (among other organizations)?

Christmas is a happy time for Christians because it reminds us of a wonderful gift sent to the world. Public property, by definition, is owned by the public. The public is composed of Christians and non-Christians. Why should some of the Christians' tax money not be used for things that bring us happiness? Your question falsely presupposed that all tax money is being paid by non-Christians.

I don't know. I don't understand "religious" people who have a problem with one religion doing something, but no problem if they do it in their religion, ie prayer in school It's A-OK if it's YOUR God being prayed to.
