Question:
What, exactly, does the Assemblies of God church believe?

I've attended an Assemblies of God church for pretty much my whole life. I love God, He is my life. He's been SO awesome to me. However, since I've been maturing in my faith, I've been noticing some things my youth pastor has been saying in our leadership meetings (I'm on the student leadership team) that I don't really agree with, such as how we should worship God (I don't believe there is a set way you MUST worship in), and I feel like our youth group is too comfortable with where we're at with God. I've been wondering lately what the Assemblies of God church really believes. I know it probably sounds bad that I don't know everything they believe, I just know the basic things they believe like about salvation and communion and such. I'd like to know maybe a mission statement, or even a list of beliefs would help... I'm trying to see if I'd feel more comfortable in a different denomination, like baptist or something. (I don't really think denomination matters, as long as you believe Jesus is God's only Son who died for our sins, but I don't want to be going to a church where they're preaching things I don't agree with. Make sense?) Thanks!

Yes, your question makes perfect sense.

Assemblies of God hold to an Arminian theology and some also hold to baptismal regeneration (the idea that you need to be baptized in what in order to be saved, in opposition to verses like Ephesians 2:8-9 and Titus 3:4-5). They are also a charismatic movement. As you may know from attending there, they have a particular style of worship with loud singing and dancing (which is fine) and it is not uncommon to see people practice what they believe to be spiritual gifts. There may very well be some exceptions to some of these details, as different congregations of even the same denomination may vary. But that is generally what Assemblies of God hold to.

You should get a doctrinal statement. You should see the errors there. From what I remember about it, they completely distort the workings of the Holy Spirit. For example: the evidence of a person who has the Holy Spirit is the gift of tongues. That is total nonsense and it is completely unscriptural. Most of these churches are a bunch of liars and all they want to do is to destroy your life and soul; then sent it to hell.

You appear to be a person who can think for yourself. This is a good habit to get into. You should test everything you believe and see if it lines up with the truth. But I wouldn't go to any other denomination nor would I recommend that you stay in your church. I would suggest that you try acting like a Christian and leave the other things alone.

IF you wonder about your church, pray and ask Jesus to lead you to another if this is not where Jesus wants you to be. Jesus will lead you to what is best for you and him.

No two people believe or know the exact same things. This makes every church different than others. So as long as the church focuses on Jesus it is fine. Jesus is the reason we are here and why we get to have eternal life.

We are all unique, and we are to compare all we hear/read with the spirit of God in us and with the word of God as well. We have to compare what we hear/read with God's spirit and word, and it must confirm God's word. Many live by what a spirit tells them, but what they hear does not go with God's word. Evil can lead us astray by this. So test all things against God's word and his spirit in us. Use the word more than the spirit to be sure you are not being misled.

God says 'it is not good for man to be alone, so let us make him a helper.' God says this, so why would any woman of God or who believes in God go against God's word. Woman is a helper to man, God said it. If you disagree with this, you are against God and his word. Many women think or say they know God, yet go against God in this. How can one be close to God/Jesus and not follow his word? one can not.

A helper is a good thing as well. A Godly woman can be a blessing and bring blessings to their family, yet an ungodly woman can bring shame and bone problems to their husbands. So line yourself up with God's word and seek and know God through Jesus. Then you will know what is right and wrong, and compare it all against God's word.

Genesis 2:18 (New International Version, ©2011)

18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.

God made woman as a helper and this is a good thing for God did it. Some may see it as a bad thing, but God did it that way and God can not do bad things. So this is good.

So what does a helper do? answer this for yourself and seek Jesus. A helper does not lead, a helper helps. And a helper is good, like a Godly wife. Worth more than all the gold and rubies in the world. A Godly wife is priceless to the husband and to God our Father.

bless you.

They got a word for you that tells you how they value women, they use that label to demean some particular rulers of the group, it starts with a w.

We believe in the whole Bible. You can not pick and choose which versus you want to believe, because it fits into how you want to live or think.
