Question:
All religion is evil - response?

The point i am trying make is that religion seems far more concerened with making other people believe what they believe rather than actually helping people that need it. Rather than having organised religion and prey meetings why not use that time to help people in the community. Only without god clouding our minds are we free to live our lives. If people weren't so concerned about converting people or shouting that there religion is right we would all live together much happier. We could use our time for good and importnat things.

Instead of standing outside a jerry springer opera or marching about cartoons why not use that energy and time to actually help people that need it. Rather than spend sundays knocking on peoples doors to try and convert them why not work with needy children.

Not until god has left us will we be truely free.

Does anyone else agree with this???

Imagine there's no Heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

Religion (or any other concept) cannot be "evil". No more than a chair can be "evil". But like anything else it can be used for evil. Many religions do good work with little or no monetary gain. Just like many chairs get sat in and give rest to the person who chooses to use it for the purpose it was created. But some asshole in a bar will always want to pick it up and bust it across someone head. Doesn't make the chair evil, just the action. Many atheist commit evil every day. Often the godless find themselves without a moral compass and act with out regret. Whether god exist or not, its humans that that can be evil, not a concept or belief system.

I agree that religion in a sense is evil. It has been outdated by science and has no purpose in present day society. It was created as a way to control the masses. Every religion has the same basic premise: 1. A set of laws that keep individuals and the community safe, and 2. Produces fear so that people will have a reason to follow those laws.

It's people who are evil. Not religion. And you can't judge all people of a "faith" just because there are some who act like idiots. I'm a born-again Evangelical Christian. If someone claims to be a Christian, but watches porn, hates homosexuals, and lives a lifestlye of sin, then he has fooled himself and is not a Christian.

The reason why Christians have "prayer meetings" and are "knocking on doors" is because those are things God requires of us, or should I say, we should want to do out of the love of our God. There are plenty of Christian organizations that help others. Samaritan's Purse, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, there are Christian Charity hospitals. You don't see it because perhaps you are not looking for it. There are people everyday who are Christians that I know visit prisons and visit the mentally ill. My church sets aside money to help people out who are financially strapped. But we can't help everyone in every instance.

Beside, there have been way more attrocities committed in the name of "secular humanism" than Christianity ever has. Hitler Stalin, Pol Pot. These were all men who lived contrary to ehw will of God who believed that their veiws were better. And that's where it leads. Man by nature is evil and even he cannot live up to his own standards. That's why we have criminal laws. If we had the abiltiy to live as you say then why don't we? Is religion keeping us from that? I think not. There are many non-religous people who are living contrary to your suggestions and their own conscience. How will you convince them to get on board to your ideas? Because YOU think it's a good idea? Please be realistic.

Please take the test below and see how you will do by God's standard.

You're question would be more agreeable if it were a little shorter on details.I don't agree fully.I don't think it's any god that's the problem,it's a control issue. There are some religions that don't stress controlling what others believe.Wicca is one. Most religions are evil, simply because they do not allow for individual beliefs and convictions. But then,I don't care who agrees with me.To each, their own.

There is a fundamental flaw with religion, it is a human ideal. Is religion inherently evil? No, not necessarily. Do I believe in a God or greater power, absolutely. Religious problems stem from the human influence over them. I think it is obvious that if there is a God, that power oversees everything, does God really care how you practice religion? Probably not. If there is a power as great as God do you really think it needs reassurance from something as pitiful as a human being? Worship and intolerance are the major flaws in religion. No, religion is not evil but the holier than thou attitude of EVERY religion is.

I agree 100%. I'm tired of having Jahovah's knocking on my door. The last time they knocked, I told them that I was Athiest, and they left. I just wish they would go back downtown and help those that truly need assistance like the homeless. I have been an Athiest since 1989 and truly feel like I am free. I wish others would open their minds and their eyes to see that the Bible is one of the greatest story ever told. Not a single fact can be found in that book. Wake up America!!!

I agree with the concept but your wording is absolutely horrible.

Religion is definately a bad influence. Evil is a consequence of an action -- religions don't take actions, people do. You could have a religion founded on an immoral basis and yet have good people in there trying to fix it.

Humans will always group -- it's an evolved adaptation. Anytime we group, we get defensive. Again, evolution for you. And if we even perceive an outsider trying to come in, or, an outsider looking like he/she is trying to take our resources, we will become, as a group, violent ... even if most of the members are normally nonviolent. Evolution can be a real b**** that way.

If you got rid of religion, we'd have philosophic wars. Get rid of theology and philosophy, and you'll have cosmology wars (steady state, big bang, inflationary... imagine science being decided by war... not a pretty picture). Get rid of all thought and you'll have our-poo-smells-worse-than-yours-so-we-will-kill-you wars.

Yes and no.

I mean, in the Bible, the book of James says that true religion before God is to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep yourself unspotted from the world. So if you're not doing that, I guess you don really have religion.

And your last comment was disturbing... without God, we're not gonna be free. But free from what? Our sin, death, eternity seperated from Him... Yeah, yeah, the Christian "I believe it because it makes me feel good" idea, but it's NOT. Do you think that it makes me feel good to read in the Bible that Believers are gonna be killed and tortured for Jesus's name?? I don't think so. Anyway, I'm sorry that you see Christians as only "Bible-thumpers" who try to convert people, but a lot of Christians actually DO help people. We're called to love God and love others, and we also have to preach the gospel to every nation! It's a big job.

God bless!

i do not trust faith is evil. the human beings operating and reading the religion from time to time change into erroneous. in spite of the indisputable fact that, in some elements (Marx). faith is used to regulate the 1000's. it really is an Ideological State equipment. they have human beings on the best telling each and each of the human beings on the bottom what to do and the thanks to act. If I shop in ideas perfect, Freud suggested that faith and God is only our way of fixing our fathers when we are older. (i'd do somewhat analyze with this one although. i don't have that a lot time.) would I abolish faith? no. i like gaining understand-how of about faith and that i'm tolerant of human beings's beliefs. as well, i trust that abolishing it received't do something. you'll only have the human beings who do not trust hurting those who do. in spite of the indisputable fact that, if i changed into that type of man or woman the finest (or toughest) thanks to abolish faith is to locate inconclusive and irrefutable evidence that each and each unmarried faith that ever existed is incorrect. as quickly because it somewhat is completely usual then there only isn't anymore debate and anybody can end questioning about this.

I won't say all religion is evil. Many religions offer good practical philosophies, and promote good acts, even if the underpinnings are flawed.

If we could remove the divinity from religion, as it were, they'd be fine.

Religion in and of itself is not evil however religious zealots who do twist and use religion to fit there own beliefs are evil. To paraprhase a good movie " People die for beliefs, people kill for beliefs, it's better to have ideas, ideas can change and grow beliefs are harder to change. " Dogma

No, all religion is not evil.

A few "organized religions" could be evil, but not all. Religion itself is simply a person's set of spiritual beliefs. Obviously that is not "always evil".

there is nothing evil in religion itself. what mankind does in the name of religion can be. people often forget there are numbers of ways to get from one destination to another such as riding a bike, a motorcycle taking a car, train, airplane, etc. etc. yet each will get to the person to the same destination. how we get there is not as important as arriving and all of us have the free will and freedom to believe as we see fit.

A lot of Christians help people in need and they deserve credit for that. It's the meddling in everyone's personal business that bothers me.

Religion is not evil. People are and how the use it. Satan is at work in the world and it shows.

... and if there were no religion people would find other reasons to not help those in need. It's in human nature not in religion.
