What was the point of genesis if it's not a literal story?

It has no value as an allegory. Also, Jesus was supposedly descended from Adam as it says in Matthew, Luke and Chronicles(each having contadictory geneaologies).

Jesus never existed, his identity was patched together from the spiritually allegorical fables and myths of Pagan religions that pre-dated his supposed existence from 100's-1000's of years.



To really understand the Bible and see the truth, one must be very well educated in the occult. The mass mind is very powerful. When one studies long enough and acquires advanced knowledge of the occult, the truth is utterly shocking. The entire Judeo/Christian Bible is a hoax of catastrophic proportions with a very clear objective using subliminal means and the channeled psychic energy of believers.



Whenever Christianity or its cohorts took control of a country or region, the ancient spiritual texts and records were removed and/or destroyed and those who had spiritual knowledge were mass murdered by the Inquisition. This took out of circulation the very knowledge those in power have used and still use to manipulate the ignorant population using spiritual/occult power. The Bible is one of the most powerful subliminal tools used by a select few to enslave the masses. Most people are unaware of this because they lack knowledge regarding the occult, thought power, and psychic energy. The powers that be work to reinforce the belief that the occult, powers of the mind and spirit are nonsense or just plain bunk.



Destroying the ancient records allowed an alternative invented "history" to be written which has disconnected humanity from its true origins. Controlling history is important because if one manipulates how people see what we call the past, this influences the present and the future.



The entire Bible is an extremely powerful subliminal tool full of occult numbers, messages, allegories, and stolen material, which has been corrupted from ancient religions. In addition, this book has been infused with psychic energy and power to instill fear and to make it believable. When one's eyes are opened and one has the necessary knowledge, the *spell* will no longer be effective. The entire underlying theme of the Judeo/Christian Bible is the establishment of the fictitious history of the Jewish people in the mass mind. There are vacuum-sealed vaults in the Vatican library containing thousands upon thousands of ancient esoteric books from around the world that have been stolen and hoarded over the years and kept out of public circulation. The Catholic Church, which is the root of the Christian religion, is controlled by a secret society that has abused occult power to enslave the masses. The end goal is the total enslavement of humanity, which they have worked towards relentlessly and ruthlessly.



All of this has directly affected each and every one of us. Humanity has suffered unnecessarily because of the denial of this knowledge. People have been coerced over the centuries into paying for their own damnation to the tune of billions and billions of dollars to keep this lie prospering and continuing strong. Contrary to what most people have been indoctrinated with, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are relatively new religions. Humanity goes back tens of thousands of years. These three have worked relentlessly to keep us from spiritual/occult knowledge and using this power, of which all of us have.



These so-called "religions" are built upon murder, torture, and lies and the only way any lie of this magnitude can survive is to create more and more lies and destroy the peoples who know the truth. Christianity is nothing more than a program. There is nothing religious or spiritual about it. Millions of people suffer depression, hopelessness, and confusion about life. The soul needs light and very few know this or actively practice the power meditation that will literally "save" their own souls. Because of a lack of knowledge and ignorance of the occult, Humanity as a whole has been placed under a powerful spell using occult power and indoctrinated not to question, concerning these three so-called "religions." This has been reinforced by centuries of Christians being duped into supplying their psychic energy and souls to be channeled into perpetuating this lie, which in the end, will only benefit a select few.

the point was quite simple.

Hilkiah started the great holy book during the reign of King Josiah.

Judah was trapped between the Babylonian and Egyptian empires. The northern state of Israel had been destroyed by the Assyrians just a few short years before.

Genesis and Exodus were intended to give a great mythological history to this small kingdom of Judah.

Numbers and Leviticus were more about creating a state constitution and a legal code.



After King Josiah screwed up and got himself killed by Pharoah Necho II in the spring of 609 BC you get the other history books that tell of the stupidities committed by Judean kings and the results.

You also have a few books of poetry, and wisdom texts.



Outside of a 200 year window from just before Josiah to just after the end of the Babylonian captivity and the book Maccabees not much of the text is historical at all.

Scripture employs a great deal of symbolism. Allegory and symbolism are not always the same thing, you can confuse the two.



Many Christians like myself have no problem with a big bang, or God working in an evolutionary process. Day is used figuratively for a period of time in many scriptures, and the day/age theory of the creation believes there can be millions to billions of years between the days.



The order for the creation parallels the same order science gives. First comes the heavens (stars, etc.), then an empty earth without form, then land followed by oceans, then plant life followed by the first intelligent life in the sea, then comes birds (which according to science are descendants of dinosaurs), then mammals, then a more specific wild animal, and finally man. It's actually amazing that it gives an order 3,000 plus years before science confirms that same order.



Adam is not created until after the seventh day, and the day/age theory believes the man created on the sixth day is not the same as Adam who is first mentioned after the seventh day. That allows for cave men, and explains where Adam and Eve's children found wives, since there were people before them.



As far as intelligent design, when some Christians latch onto a world that is 6,000 years old, the thought of "not intelligent" comes to my mind. They need to be convinced that science is not the enemy, that science actually corroborates the biblical order. Likewise, non-religionists need to explain how Genesis came up with the same order as science, considering how that might relate to intelligent design.

it actually has great value as an allegory, the story is just to say that God made, man screwed up, God enacted a plan. You must remember that the Hebrew people of that time only taught using symbols and metaphors, even Jesus taught in parables, genesis, or at least a pretty good part of it, are likely to be parables as well. Do not take this as a threat to your faith, more as a challenge to know your faith. The Jews in those days had no idea of how the world was created and so had creation myths similar to most religions. That is the purpose of Genesis.



Israel's claim to statehood is not based on Jesus's ancestors. Indeed, most Jews do not recognise Jesus as either the son of God or the Messiah. However, many although not most Palestinians are Christians.

What's the point of the entire Old Testament, for that matter, if Jesus decided it doesn't apply to anyone any more?



Christians, faced with modern understanding from science and technology, have spent centuries deciding that large sections of the Bible are "not literal," or "not applicable," as it becomes painfully obvious that they're not true (this process usually involving a standoff between the church and whoever has discovered new information).



The problem is, as they decide that more and more of the Bible is "not literal," it's becoming difficult to decide exactly what the use of that "allegorical" or "metaphorical" material is. What's the point of giving us a fairy tale in Genesis if it's not true? Why the long list of rules in Leviticus if they "don't apply to us anymore?" The problem, of course, is that it looks bad to throw away parts of the Bible, when it's supposed to be an infallible book. So we just end up with more and more of the book that most Christians just ignore.

Great question...There are parts of Genesis, example chapter 1..That are extremely emphatic. Meaning so much more is said that can ever be expressed in words, so it is given a "symbolic" meaning. That is why there is so much confusion on what happened in the garden..We are not talking about real "trees" or real "fruit"..Or a "snake" ..The hebrew translations help us with that a bit..However, if you think the greatest sin was eating an apple, your going to the wrong church.

it never mentions Sin coming about from this,

that is a Christian Interpretation, not Truth.

Since Moses wrote Genesis, according to Moses, Adam and Eve precede him by at least 2,500 years. I wonder how Moses could remember all that. Maybe...



Moses got his knowledge from the Egyptians because as we know it Moses was found by the Egyptians and raised as one of them.



For example Khnum, the Potter God, who according to the gods of Egypt created man from dirt. The History and religion of Egypt predate Moses; Moses was raised by the Egyptians.



Moses wanted a piece of the pie, was denied and so broke away forming his own sect. The miracles he learned from the Egyptian Mystery Schools allowed him to influence the ignorant illiterate Egyptian slaves into following him. And they in turn educated the rest of the Bible reading world.
