Question:
Why do atheists always think they are smarter than religious people?

For me, atheism is a religion. I mean, they like to quote science books as their bibles, but its sill just a religion. They don't have answers for everything. They are mostly materialists with lots of theories, but without proof that those theories are correct. But they act like they are correct, just like religious people act like they are right.

I wouldn’t group all atheists together and I wouldn’t call them materialists when many Christians believe the prosperity gospel is the gospel message.

New Atheism is partly to blame for this trend. Their mission is to do away with religion and part of their strategy is to make Christians sound like losers.

Biblical literalism and the denial of evolution doesn’t make Christianity sound brilliant.

We are living in history’s wealthiest period in the West and a lot of people don’t need religion.

Christianity is a tough religion and in this age of science and technology and scientific proof is how some think everything is proved.

There is a current of anti-intellectualism in the US. Intellectuals are not trusted and that hurts religion. We ignore philosophers and philosophy and that is the area where the arguments for the existence of God is discussed.

I hope this answers your question.

1) atheism is not a religion

2) "science books as their bibles"? That old chestnut, eh? Which science books have you ever heard quoted by atheists?

3) we know that we don't have answers for everything. We understand that. That's why science is still going.

4) materialists with theories but no proof, okay if you say so. What are some of these theories that us materialists have?

5) we act like we're correct when we're correct. I'll gladly admit when I'm wrong.

It's an interesting point that you make - many atheists put their 'faith' in science, as opposed to a deity, although of course, science cannot answer every question.

Atheists passionately believe that there is no God, and perhaps feel a sense of freedom from the 'myth' that others call faith. Does this make them smarter? You'd have to give everyone in the world an IQ test to know that. You could argue that atheists feel simply accepting something as fact without asking for the evidence is perhaps not stupidity, but naivety.

I think it's human nature for many people to need to feel they are cleverer than others. But, some atheists have very real and logical reasons for not being religious - some were betrayed by religious people throughout their life or perhaps abused by people of the church.

And no, I'm not an atheist.

It takes more faith to believe in no God, and no hope than it does to believe in God. What it really comes down to is that God is all good and only encourages the common good of all people. The only reason people try so hard to deny God's existence, even beyond rational opinion (seeing that there is no possible way the Earth and everything could have been created and work so flawlessly to make existence possible with some intelligent designer), is because it comes with a sense of moral accountability. And people don't want to feel like they can't do everything that their flesh desires, even though, everything that the Bible encourages us to live by is only for the common good of us all. Not only that, but they get so egotistical and confident in their own human knowledge that they forget about how helpless we really are. The sad part is that most people don't come to know God until something terrible happens in their life that they have no control of, so they reach out to God. And one of the reasons that I know God exist is just the fact that Athiest are so BOTHERED by what I BELIEVE. they feel an obligation to tell me that I'm stupid instead just not believing. Go figure. :/

They believe Christianity is a fairy tale story. They think Christians are stupid to believe in an unseen God. They think they know something no one else does. They are full of pride, a sin by the way.

It's dangerous to file all religions under one name, there are many and mostly different.

That's where the confusion comes into play. Who's religion is the right one? Is there a right one?

Is there a God? Who's God is he, every religion claims him. But many atrocities are carried out in his name.

I would venture to guess there are atheists for one of these reasons. They were not raised in a Christian environment, or they were and resent the rules. Maybe they were molested by a church member, it happens other places than Catholics. Maybe dad was a drunk on Saturday and a saint on Sunday, kids see through that pretty quick. Maybe God disappointed them. The Bible says things that are misunderstood, it also makes claims that are hard to believe, but that's what they get you on, faith, you are just supposed to believe it on faith. Many kids raised in Church turn against it at one point or another, some return, some don't, many are angry. And who can blame them. They get taught one thing but see another.

Well I don't believe in God. I don't ask dumb question, I don't give stupid references. Does that make me smarter may be may be not. The thing is I don't really care.

I do not quote from science book I don't even own a science book. I know some really smart religious people the difference between them and some of the people out here is they don't ask questions which make them look stupid.

Religion is the belief in and worship of a deity. Since I don't worship anything, I don't fall into the religious category; sorry but I'm not here to validate your belief in something that doesn't exist.

I'll believe you dismiss science and all we've developed through scientific discovery when you give up ALL of your modern conveniences, go live on a deserted island somewhere without even the clothes on your back, and let your gawd provide for you.

It's statistically true that atheists are smarter than religious people.

Of course we don't have answers. The whole of atheism is that theism is incorrect. You need a scientist for answers. Or a philosopher, I don't know what your question is. I will say, there is nothing more tiresome than a militant agnostic complaining no one has answers. One would presume, you would call these questions unanswerable anyway, so what are you complaining about exactly?
2013-07-11 00:03:55 UTC
atheism is:-

seeing no evidence for any of the proposed gods they therefore conclude there are no gods.

Anything else said by an atheist is a personal opinion, it does not define atheism.

In the same way that theism is not a religion so is atheism not a religion

So quoting any book means I'm treating that as my bible? So when I quoted A Light in August in a term paper did that mean that I was exposing my worship of Faulkner? Actually you might have something there, as William Faulkner can write like you can spew stupid crap on the internet, waste an education, and annoy people.

Look, before you criticize something please learn about what you want to attack so you avoid putting out a bunch of meaningless nonsense that makes you look like a moron.

I agree, if they think they are smart but do what you said, I certainly wouldn't listen to them about whether God exists or not. Atheist kids at my school don't even know the capital city of their own country

Atheists have a Jesus, he is called Charles Darwin, they throw his evolution into our faces, yet don't even realise its a theory. It can not be proven.

And all an Atheist knows how to do is thumb down a person making a good point, or make a joke he can't answer too.

First off, atheism isn't a religion. They're trying to show you another way of thinking. Rather than buying everything your fundamentalist parents and family told you, they want you to think logically. They want you to use evidence, and to see through ancient dogma that sounds ridiculous. Do you really think there is a flaming underworld that is inhabited by a big red guy with a pitchfork? Seriously. That even sounds ridiculous.
2013-07-11 00:06:53 UTC
I don't think I'm necessarily smarter than religious people. I mean I am smarter than some religious people, but then some religious people are smarter than me.

I just think my beliefs are more correct. I have evidence to support what I believe, Christians don't. Of course, that dosen't mean that i am right and Christians must be wrong, but I believe my beliefs are more logical and more likely to be true, in comparison to that of religion.

Science is not a religion it is fact. There is no belief system in science it is true whether you believe it or not. Second statistically the people on earth with the highest I.Q.s are actually atheists so technically they are smarter. And no I am not atheist.

Why do they always think their smarter? Don't lump everybody into a saying like that, it makes you look completely ignorant.
2013-07-11 00:07:44 UTC
if this is true, i've always wondered why christian schools always have higher test scores at the end of the year?.

the christian schools in my city always come in at the top while the public schools always come in at the bottom. for test score rankings... why is this?.. the funny thing is..

some christian schools in my area are funded by the government so they have to teach public school curriculums as well as their own stuff.

They are practicing an idolatry of their own intellect and ego as if thy are superior to any notion of God. But they are blinded by their own pride. For atheists who are malicious in hatred for any God superior to themselves and those who have faith, their absence of faith or any desire for it is the experience of the wrath of God which keeps them distant from love experienced with God.

"For me..."

Luckily words have official meanings and are not defined by your imperfect irrational opinions.

And I came to my atheism through good old fashioned rational thinking. Science had nothing to do with it, and I'm pretty big on pointing out when science is constantly brought up by THEISTS.

ps. At the end of a good old fashioned head-to-head debate with a willing theist, he gave up yelling at me, "Well of course you're winning because you argue with your FACTS! So whatever, dude!" And he left. lol

Well, judging from the obvious ignorant in your post (i.e. not being able to tell the difference between a theory and a "scientific theory", and labeling a lack of belief as a religion), I can easily say I am smarter than YOU.

science is right not kind of right and people want to still believe the world isn't that old when they are wrong. they are both closed minded but atheist have it a little more open

"Why do atheists always think they are smarter than religious people?"

"For me, atheism is a religion."

Well, at least in your case, you've proven to be sub-par in the smarts department.

Atheism isn't a religon anymore than plain old theism is.

We just think you religious folk are delusional.

EDIT

Hitler was a Christian and was very intelligent. Unfortunate for the six million or more who were killed it was not a blessing. Hence, He used his intelligence in the wrong way.

I don't accept your inadequately supported assertions that a god or gods exist.

Anything you add to that is your own doing, and not my responsibility to correct. Really, it just makes it seem like you are avoiding addressing the core issues when you do this type of thing.

Well, thanks for posting, I like to post this, again, so people can look:) It is Written.

For any who question their gifts (surroundings, as Moses does in the Bible), the Holy Spirit's (I call him my Guide :)))) presence or eventual presence is the real evidence/proof, Romans 8:16. Jesus's felt presence (Deuteronomy 31:6) for those in desperate need and Matthew 9:13 states Jesus wanted to live amongst us again and 12:9 shows related. Thread safely (treating this as sacred extremely important ground). John 9:11: no evolution necessary. Scientists “Amazing proof Jesus rose from the dead” and Walter J. Veith from evolutionist to creationist on youtube; Messiah's leadership only spiritual since David's throne's curse of sword, carbon dating not accurate due 1st century's maps evidence of earth splitting (don't know 2 unkwnowns, can't solve for 3rd, also); Don't DISCRIMINATE 1 Corinthians 5:9,10 against sinners (but don't yoke yourself with unbelievers) but sin=still wrong! (including Any-gay, 1 Corinthians 5:11, 13, all is permitted, fate=choose destiny+ fate=destiny's RESULTS, treat as sacred Ground (as Moses told to):) Basically, since people want free will, they're gonna get, good or bad, what they wish, what they so *wish, what they wiiished/response to their own (God judges each fairly/according surroundings:) Just in case, (and others came back, it's not right for you to make an evil choice based upon, and suffer "for the Devil's sin", basically. ThankS!!! More, more like new-destiny gift for all, since "all sinned", and initially His felt presence and conscience (that what-I'm-doing-is-wrong) for all! Real Evidence. . .

Because you has just demonstrated to be of below average intelligence in this question
2013-07-11 00:07:11 UTC
Because 'beliefs' are the exact opposite of 'thinking'. Duh!

That and believers are too ignorant to know how stupid they are. How could they know? They are stoopid and ignorant. That is scientifically proven.
