Question:
Legitimate Question for Christians; I'm curious..?

I'm curious.

In various chapters, there's different statements in the bible, apparently, that condemn homosexuality and divorce, etc. If you use these to quote your beliefs that what-ever-it-is is a sin, what do you do when atheists/agnostic people respond by quoting back other "sins" from the bible?

For example, just now, I read an article about a fundamentalist that quoted the bible to say that "homosexuality is a sin," and people responded by quoting back that: so is planting different crops in the same field, wearing clothing of mixed cloth, eating shellfish, touching the skin of a dead pig, etc.

When people quote these sort of things, these "sins" back at you, how do you respond?
Do you just go, "well, you're going to hell, so poo you," or do you have a logical and witty come back? I'm honestly curious. There was no rebuttal to this person's throw back to the fundamentalist, and I'm curious what a true Christian would say in that sort of circumstance.

Well then you would have to go into the difference between the Levitical Law, Mosaic Law, and principles.

It's really just a matter of understanding what the Bible teaches. In the Bible, there is an Old Testament and a New Testament. The Old Testament is the Law for sinners, and it is ruled by death. It exists to teach us what the law is, to show us how God does NOT want us to behave, and to provide the prophecies by which Christ can be recognized. The New Testament is the perfect fulfilment of God's desire for us, and it shows us how God DOES want us to behave, and how His word will be fulfilled. The regulations against eating shellfish and wearing clothing of mixed cloth are part of the Old Testament, but they are nowhere to be found in the New Testament. Therefore we can conclude they are part of the regulations for sinners, but have little to do with grace. The prohibitions on homosexuality and divorce, however, are found in both the Old AND New Testaments, so they apply across the board.

REALLY GOOD QUESTION.

"Let him without sin cast the first stone."

The Scribes and Pharisees brought a woman to Jesus who had been caught in the act of adultery.

They asked Jesus, saying The law of Moses said that we should stone her, what do you say?

Jesus didn't condemn the law, He actually confirmed it. If the law says kill her, then kill her. "BUT!!!!!!" He who has NO SIN must cast the first stone.

The Pharisees and Scribes new the law well enough to no that Jesus was right. Only someone without sin could throw that stone, and Jesus didn't throw it. He told the woman "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.

We Christians still sin, so therefore judgment and condemnation is not in our hands but rather it is in Gods. Whereas the Jews of the old testament offered up blood sacrifice offerings for forgivness, we Christians find our forgivness in the blood sacrifice of our Lord Jesus.Through Him we have true forgivness.

Ask Him for forgiveness and He will forgive.

First of all, those examples all come from the Old Testament. They are cultural in nature and pertain to the Jewish people. That in itself will lead to disputations back and forth. But the root of the problem in most believers' minds is to not get the basic definition of what sin is. It is unbelief in God. This has also lead, somewhat, to the unbelievers not clearly comprehending what sin is either. The debate ought to be about what constitutes unbelief in God. That would be a lively discussion!

I take a simpler track. I believe that Jesus died for our sins, which essentially removed the Levitical laws, and if we have faith that that is true, we are all righteous. (Romans 3:21-27) Following Jesus' teachings of being good to one another and respecting one another, and trying to keep the 10 commandments are pretty much the requirements.

I guess I'm not a good person to answer this question for you, because I'm pretty open minded and don't believe that homosexuality is a sin because Jesus died on the cross for all of us.

First thing is.... The Word and Will of God is NOT to be imposed upon anyone not already in willing submission to Him... so why are they so persistently violent in their attacks against something they do not even believe in in the first place......

Second.... Those of The True Church(all those of The True Christian Faith) strive to follow the instruction of Jesus The Christ..... and that instruction is from his Father God's Word... much of the law given to The Nation of Israel does not apply to those of The True Church today.... and what does apply requires much study to make it clear....

Third.... The Bible does not prove any thing... not God, not Jesus, not God's Holy Spirit, and it for sure can not prove it's self..... but... God will prove His Word and Will(contained within The Bible) to all who come to it open to His leading through His Holy Spirit......... those who do not come to God's Word in The Bible, open to His leading, will not find any thing of honest understanding there... regardless of how many times they claim to have read it... and hard they claim to have studied it......

The Bible if for the instruction of those of The True Church, and for those who are honestly seeking to become a part of The Body of The Church

Sin is any act against The Word and Will of God for man-kind

And..... if one is not even willing to read a response of this length... there is no hope that they will be capable of understanding God's Word and Will found in The Bible

NOTE ADDED:...... those of The True Church(all those of The True Christian Faith) should never "debate" The Faith.... or argue anyone about it..... you either accept it or you do not.... those of The True Church know that it is not our business to "convert" anyone... that is God's businesss.... we are to assist those God has converted.... not argue/debate those who are not open to God

the subject has alot to do with the justifications the your Father's first marriage ended - which you do no longer totally state. study a million Corinthians financial disaster 7, those are the justifications for ending a marriage that God supplies. Your Father replaced into married, and did so with vows in the past God i assume. in spite of if - curiously God has blessed the marriage including your mom a great deal... i does no longer evaluate your self or your siblings any much less because of the fact of those situations. you will possibly be able to desire to seek for suggestion from somebody different than Yahoo! solutions for this - come across a good church with somebody you have confidence and confer with them approximately it.

There are several specific sins that are mentioned in the NT as still sins to be avoided.

Stuff like the jewish dietary and clothing rules are specifically deemed no longer valid for those "in Christ". Same for circumcision and other Jewish rituals.

That is the key to your question.

I'm not sure who you are talking to to....but the bible said's homosexuality is a sin, do you need scripture to back that up?

You don't need a witty comeback. You just tell them the truth.

Identifying other sins does not absolve you of yours. We are all sinners. We all need a Savior. That is why Jesus came to earth and died to pay the price for our sins. He offers us the free gift of salvation. If we accept it, our sins are wiped away. If we reject it, we are choosing to pay the price ourselves.

We will all be judged by an absolute standard (God's standard). We will not be judged by a relativistic standard (comparing ourselves to others). We either pay the price or accept the gift. And, trying to excuse one sin by citing another will not work at all.

Quoting Mosaic Law, which does not and never has applied to Christians, is not a meaningful response to basic morality, which never changes and applies to everyone.

This is typical and what happens to Christians within the greatest earthly nation. In short the Christians do not obey the Scriptures they preach and teach and they pay the price by looking foolish. They think it is because of their faith in Christ but it is not. The Bible mentions Christians only two or three times in the Scriptures and that is it. Scripture is written by Saints and to the Saints. Christians take the written word from the Saints, and turn to THEIR congregations and crank out more and more Christians when the Scripture commands Believers to equip Saints to do the work of the ministry. Obviously true living Saints always face Christ's Kingdom to prove they are led by the Holy Spirit to "Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." Christ's invisible Kingdom and you will never ever hear a Christian pastor or Bible teacher tell you Christ's kingdom is to the east of our Republican wing up in Heaven and to the east of the actual cross of Christ and up in the realm of the Spirit. This is why Scripture commands us or anyone to "Come out from among them and I will receive you says the Lord God." Every Christian within this nation is within our Republican or Democrat wing and none ever "come out" to the east of our Republican wing to enter their own Kingdom. From the Kingdom's perspective, our Republican wing leads east and up to the invisible Kingdom while our Democrat wing led by the flesh life leads west and down to earth to to Lucifer's Kingdom and his is down in the west on American soil and is directly in front of our Democrat wing. Those Bible quotes are from the Old Testament Covenant and do not apply to the New Testament Covenant as all things are "new in Christ" to them that believe." to be "in Christ" is to obey Scripture and be up in front of our Republican wing and in the Kingdom. To defend the faith, Saints and Sons of God do come out of the Kingdom knowing they are on higher ground with their backs to the Kingdom and in front of the actual cross they easily defend their faith because you will have to turn your back on the Kingdom if you do not believe them. Christians have given up all the higher ground and come down in Adam and on this side of the cross every Christian down in our Democrat wing s led by their old flesh life and they can not defend their faith which is Spirit led when their backs are to the Kingdom. Christians have given up Kingdom authority and returned to the natural American life and they are back under the rule of the American government and Lucifer's Kingdom all because they are ill taught in the local churches. Faith in Christ does not start down at a lower cross on lower ground but up and in front of the actual cross where issues can be dealt with, with clarity. Homosexuals and all sinners born of the flesh can enter the Kingdom and surrender to Christ but they can not come back down to the United States in their old flesh nature because the Scripture says, "The old man is hid in Christ." Only the new man comes down from the Kingdom to shed light and they do not give up higher ground to discuss topics down on lower ground. With the Kingdom of Christ you enter up in Heaven because you left alone and you enter alone or you turn your back live life to the fullest in the flesh and go back down to Lucifer's Kingdom and you will end up in Hell for that choice.
