Hell is a form of control through fear. If you are bad, you will go to hell. If you don't convert to this or that religion, or do what I say, you will go to hell.

Jer. 31:3 God's character is one of love.

2 Pet. 3:9 God is not willing that any should perish.

Heb 12:29 Our God is a consuming fire. To sin, wherever found,

God is a consuming fire.

Mal. 4:1-3 Sinners will ultimately be burned up or turned to ashes.

Ps 37:10 The wicked shall not be.

Ps 37:20 The wicked shall perish.

Matt. 25:46 The punishment will be everlasting. Note the text does

not say "everlasting punishing". It is a single punishment whose

effect lasts forever.

Jude 7 Sodom and Gomorrah are examples of everlasting

punishment and eternal fire. These cities lie in ruins today

underneath a portion of the Dead Sea.

2 Pet 2:6 The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are turned into

ashes.

Matt. 3:11,12 The fire cannot be quenched or put out until it

completes its work of totally eradicating sin from the universe.

Jer. 17:19-27 Jerusalem was destroyed by an unquenchable

fire which human hands could not put out. It completed its

work of totally destroying Jerusalem, yet Jerusalem is not

burning today.

Rev. 20:10 The wicked shall be destroyed forever. Forever does

not always mean endless existence but is literally translated

"until the end of the age".

Ex. 21:6 A slave shall serve his master forever or as long as he

lives.

1 Sam. 1:22,28 Hannah presented Samuel before the Lord

forever or for as long as he would live.

2 Pet. 2:4 The evil angels and all the wicked are reserved unto

judgement. Hell is not burning now.

Rev. 20:9 Fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours

the wiched. They are completely destroyed.

Ezek. 28:17,18 Satan himself will be consumed to ashes.

Isa. 47:14 The fire will burn itself out and there will not even be a

coal to warm at.

Ob.16 The wicked shall be as they had not been.

2 Pet. 3:12,13 The old world shall be disolved but GOd shall

create a new heavens and earth.

According to the Bible, the final destruction of the wicked comes at the end of time. The wicked are reserved unto judgement. (2 Pet. 2:4) Our God is a consuming fire to sin wherever found (Heb.12:29). The fires of Hell originate from heaven at the end of time not some hot spot in the earth (Rev. 20:9) The wicked will be totally consumed. They shall be cut off from the earth.

The most common description of hell is that of fire. Here is a list of some of these descriptions:

fire and brimstone burning wind fiery oven

flames of fire judgment by fire unquenchable fire

furnace of fire eternal fire eternal punishment

fiery hell pits of darkness lake of fire

Since there could possibly be a lot of party people in hell, one might think that it will be one big party. However, the problem is that the likes of Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and other unsavory characters will be there also. In order to keep those people from tormenting their neighbors excessively, all the inhabitants will be restrained through punishment (with the amount increasing with the degree of restraint required). This list below tells of some of the things that the inhabitants of hell will be going through:

smoke of their torment, no rest day and night

weeping and gnashing of teeth, tormented

death their worm, does not die

destruction

Why does there need to be a hell? Since many would say that God could just destroy the evil people, rather than condemn them to a place of torment. The problem is that God made spiritual beings (humans and angels) as eternal creatures. In fact, the Bible says that God has put the knowledge of the eternal nature of our spirits within each of us:

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Since God is absolutely holy, He cannot be in the direct presence of sinful creatures. Therefore, all who are sinful must be separated from God and cannot be allowed to enter into His home (heaven). Hell is the place where these people must go, away from the presence of God.The Christian interpretation of hell is a place of eternal torment. However, the Bible also includes a number of verses that suggest that those who are condemned to hell are eventually destroyed.

there's a Hell. In it, one faces separation from God. Reminder: all are interior the presence of God dazzling now. Hell as a place of exact torment is, i've got confidence, meant to grant the reader a very good concept of the point of emotional torment we are able to adventure in Hell. The soreness from burns is taken under consideration one of the actual ten of worst pains we are in a position to adventure as human beings, so it variety of feels to me to be an perfect metaphor for a place of torment. as far as who is going there, that is people who have not many times happening the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the pass.

All the people who are on here that laugh about hell will someday be there and the worst of it is they will remember All the things they said and did on here it will be a place of remembrance , Every time some one witnessed to them they will be in Hell remembering that they at one time had a chance not to be there but instead slandered and spit on the name of Jesus Christ ,How horrible it will be for them to know that they rejected a God that Loved them so much that he died in there place , there eyes will be opened to the truth and it will start at the point of death not one second later but right at that time they will know what a fool they where

Hell is a space between "heaven" and "earth" where the spirits/consciences of people who have passed sit and contemplate the evils they have done in their life on earth.

It is a dark space, where one is completely ALONE with ones thoughts and memories of ones life. Left to think. To contemplate. To mourn. To grieve. To be given a chance to beg God for forgiveness. To call out for help ~ and to in the end be warmed by the light of an all forgiving God if we do so. Those who do not ~ remain there ~ eternally.

I do not believe in the traditional Christian Hell of fire and brimstone and lakes of fire. But I do think, if we die, and are left alone, without the light of God and all the beauty of the Heavens before us. Left alone to realize we did so much wrong in our lives and hurt so many people.

That is the ultimate Hell.

The complete absence of God. When you truly feel his love, you feel something that is beyond human emotion. I believe the worst possible version of hell would be isolation from his love, your soul completely alone and isolated for eternity. I know this is not Biblical but this is what came to me the first time I felt his presence. I was so overwhelmed by his comfort and love.

Never to feel that again would be hell.

Hell is not a place or a thing. Hell is a state of mind, your mind is trapped because you no longer have a physical body. It's like before you were born you did exist to the world but somewhere your mind was there..in the space..in the unknown..waiting to fill a body...and after your body dies your mind returns to that same place where nothing really exists...

Aside from the fire and brimstone, eternal torment and torture..hell is a place of eternal separation from God.

Hell is a place that was created for the devil and his angels(the ones that followed satan in his rebellion against God)...but now, because of Jesus' sacrifice, and others spurning that gift, hell, I'm sure, will have several other occupants aside from the devil and his imps.

No God, no death to ease the suffering..eternal torment. A place that, if people really knew the truth about it, no one would want to end up in.

In my religion mythology says that heaven is like with all pleasures, wth beautiful people and all comforts and hell is pain. However there is much higher level than heaven, that is salvation. So, I would like to go there instead of heaven, because souls going to heaven can take birth again, but salvation is eternal bliss. I am hindu.

Hell is another name for the common gravesite...a place where the dead are buried & waiting on a resurrection...it is no fiery place of torment like most religious leaders have taught through out the centuries.

There is no hell. Sin, hell, and satan are man made words. Paul invented hell to instill fear in the masses. He desired control and their money.

Is it at all logical that a loving God would condemn anyone to hell for eating shrimp? How about for having the sexual orientation that they were born with? No, it is absurd.

Facts About Hell From God's Word

Before the Jesus died on the Cross, Hades (Hell) was a temporary holding place for the Dead - the Saved Dead and the Unsaved Dead. It consisted of Two Compartments which were:

1) Paradise - for the Righteous Dead who were waiting for the Messiah, to win His victory over sin and death - we now know the Messiah is Jesus.

2) Hades - for the Unrighteous Dead - A Place of Horrific Torment

These Two Compartments of Hades and Paradise had a Great Chasm separating the two places, you could at one time see into the other place, but you could not cross over.

Luke 16:19-31 Jesus said, "There was a certain Rich Man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury. At his Gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores. As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man's table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores. "Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham (Abraham's bosom). The Rich Man also died and was buried, and his soul went to the place of the dead (Hades). There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side. "The Rich Man shouted, `Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.' "But Abraham said to him, `Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.” Then the rich man said, `Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father's home. For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don't end up in this place of torment.' "But Abraham said, `Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.' "The Rich Man replied, `No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.' "But Abraham said, `If they won't listen to Moses and the Prophets (READ GOD'S WORD & OBEY IT), they won't listen even if someone rises from the dead.'"

Jesus now holds the Keys of Hell - Hades and Death

Revelation 1:18 (NKJV) Jesus says, I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

After Jesus Died on The Cross and Won His Victory over Sin and Death, He Visited Hell by taking the Righteous Dead from Paradise Up With Him as He Ascended Up To Heaven. Since that time, the Saved go up to Heaven when they die; the Unsaved still continue to go to Hades.

1 Peter 3:18-22 Christ also suffered when he died for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners that he might bring us safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. So he went and preached to the spirits in prison

Matthew 12:40 (NKJV) Jesus says, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Matthew 27:50-54 (After Jesus' Death On The Cross) Then Jesus shouted out again, and he gave up His Spirit. At that moment the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead after Jesus' resurrection. They left the cemetery, went into the Holy City of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people. The Roman Officer and the other soldiers at the crucifixion were terrified by the earthquake and all that had happened. They said, "Truly, this was the Son of God!"

Ephesians 4:8 That is why the Scriptures say, "When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to His people."

Acts 2:31 David was looking into the future and predicting the Messiah's resurrection. He was saying that the Messiah would not be left among the dead and that His body would not rot in the grave

Luke 23:43 And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in Paradise."

Hell is the "Lake of Fire." Hades is where unsaved people go right after they die, they are in Torment there. They will someday be resurrected from Hades to appear before the Lord Jesus at the Great White Throne Judgment. If their name was NOT recorded in the Book of Life (Rev. 20:11-15) and they were seen as being Guilty for their sins (sins were not paid for by Jesus), they will then pay for their own sins and deeds and then ultimately be cast into the Eternal Lake of Fire which is Hell. This is where Satan and his Demons will be too.

Rev. 20:11-15 And I saw a Great White Throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God's Throne. And the Books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead (unsaved) were judged according to the things written in the books, according to what they had done. The sea gave up the dead in it, and death and the grave gave up the dead in them. They were all judged according to their deeds. And death and the grave were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death—the Lake of Fire. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the Lake of Fire.

How could a loving God send someone there?

Romans 1:18-20 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.

Hell is being Tormented with an Everlasting Burning Fire and Burning Sulfur (Brimstone)

Revelation 14:10 ...must drink the wine of God's wrath. It is poured out undiluted into God's cup of wrath. And they will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb.

Isaiah 33:14 (NKJV) The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: "Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?"

Matthew 25:41 (NKJV) "Then He (King Jesus) will turn to those on the left and say, 'Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his demons!

The Scriptures indicate that Hades ("Hell") is located in the "lower parts of the earth"

Isaiah 44:23 (NKJV) Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth; Break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israel.

Ephesians 4:8 That is why the Scriptures say, "When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people."

Hell was created for Satan and his angels (Demons). It's location is not indicated in the Scriptures

Matthew 25:41"Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, `Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his Demons!

Satan wants to take as many people to Hell with him as he possibly can

1 Peter 5:8 Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour.

Rev. 12:9 This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the Devil, or Satan, the one Deceiving the Whole World—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.

No one technically is in Hell yet - they are in Hades, which is a place of Torment. They will ultimately be cast into Hell, which is The Lake Of Fire, and this occurs after they have been judged at the Great White Throne Judgment. The first people to be placed into Hell will be the Antichrist and His False Prophet. This will occur at the time of the Lord's Second Coming.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the Lake of Fire that burns with sulfur.

The second to be confined to Hell will be Satan himself. This will occur at the end of the Millennial 1,000 year Reign of Jesus Christ on the Earth

Revelation 20:10 Then the Devil, who betrayed them, was thrown into the Lake of Fire that burns with sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Unsaved will be consigned to Hell at the end of the 1,000 yr. Millennium, after they have been resurrected and Judged

Revelation 20:11-15 And I saw a Great White Throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God's Throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. They were all judged according to their deeds. And death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the Lake of Fire. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the Lake of Fire.

Hell is a "Furnace of Fire"

Matthew 13:50 Throwing the wicked into the fire. There will be Weeping and Gnashing of teeth.

Hell is a place of "Unquenchable Fire"

Matthew 3:12 He is ready to separate the chaff from the grain with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, storing the grain in his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire."

Hell is a place of "Eternal Fire"

Matthew 18:8 So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better to enter heaven crippled or lame than to be thrown into the unquenchable fire with both of your hands and feet.

Hell is also a place of "Outer Darkness"

Matthew 8:12 But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be cast into outer darkness, where there will be Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth."

Matthew 22:13 Then the king said to his aides, `Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the outer darkness, where there is Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth.’

Hell is a place of "Black Darkness"

2 Peter 2:17 These people are as useless as dried-up springs of water or as clouds blown away by the wind—promising much and delivering nothing. They are doomed to blackest darkness.

Jude 1:13 They are like wild waves of the sea, churning up the dirty foam of their shameful deeds. They are wandering stars, heading for everlasting gloom and darkness.

Hell is a place of "Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth"

Matthew 8:12 But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be cast into outer darkness, where there will be Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth."

Matthew 22:13 Then the king said to his aides, `Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the outer darkness, where there is Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth.'

Revelation 14:10 Must drink the wine of God's wrath. It is poured out undiluted into God's cup of wrath. And they will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur in the presence of the Holy Angels and the Lamb.

Hell is a place where people will experience degrees of torment in relation to the magnitude and seriousness of their sins

Matthew 11:22-24 I assure you, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on the Judgment Day than you! And you people of Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to the place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for you had been done in Sodom, it would still be here today. I assure you, Sodom will be better off on the Judgment Day than you."

Luke 12:47-48 The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given.

Hebrews 10:29 Think how much more terrible the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God and have treated the blood of the covenant as if it were common and unholy. Such people have insulted and enraged the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to his people.

Hell is a place of no rest

Revelation 14:11 The smoke of their torment rises forever and ever, and they will have no relief day or night, for they have worshiped the beast and his statue and have accepted the mark of his name.

Hell is a place of "Disgrace and Everlasting Contempt"

Hell is a place of Eternal Separation from God

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don't know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. [10] when he comes to receive glory and praise from his holy people. And you will be among those praising him on that day, for you believed what we testified about him.

Hell is a place where people "Perish"

Satan and his Demons will suffer Eternal Torment in Hell

Revelation 20:10 Then the Devil, who betrayed them, was thrown into the Lake of Fire that burns with sulfur, joining the Beast (Antichrist) and the False Prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Hell is a place where people will experience a "Second Death"

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years. (During the Millennial 1,000 yr. Reign of Christ on the Earth, and then for all Eternity).

Revelation 20:14 And death and the grave were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death—the Lake of Fire.

"By the abundance of your trading (great wealth) you became filled with violence within, and you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub (mighty guardian), From the midst of the fiery stones.

That day will not bring light and prosperity, but darkness and disaster. In that day you will be like a man who runs from a lion—only to meet a bear. After escaping the bear, he leans his hand against a wall in his house—and is bitten by a snake.

Matthew 24:51 He will tear (cut him) the servant apart and banish him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Luke 12:47-48 (NKJV) And that servant who knew his Master's will (the Lord's will), and did not prepare himself or do according to His will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

Worms

Job 21:26 Both alike are buried in the same dust, both eaten by the same worms.

The Islamic view of Hell (Everything in quotes comes from the Qur'an):

“The evildoers, like their predecessors, will have a share of punishment – they need not ask Me to hasten it.” “When Hell is that Day brought near – on that Day man will take heed, but what good will that be to him then? He will say, ‘Would that I had provided for this life to come!’ ” “When it (Hell) sees them from a distance, they will hear it raging and roaring, and when they are hurled into a narrow part of it, chained together, they will cry out for death. ‘Do not cry out this day for one death, but for many.’ Say, ‘Which is better, this or the lasting Garden that those who are mindful of God have been promised as their reward and journey’s end?’ ” “You will see them exposed to the Fire, abject in humiliation, glancing furtively.” They look at it with the corner of their eyes out of fear “while those who believed exclaim, ‘The losers are the ones who have lost themselves and their people on the Day of Resurrection.’ Truly the evildoers will remain in lasting torment.”

Hell will be brought forth on that Day with seventy thousand bridles, and every bridle will be controlled by seventy thousand angels. It needs to be tamed as “it almost bursts up with fury” when it sees those who disobeyed God. “They will be told, ‘Go to that which you used to deny! Go to a shadow of smoke!’ It rises in three columns; no shade does it give, nor relief from the flame; it shoots out sparks as large as castles and as bright as copper.” These are just the sparks of Hell. When the evildoers see Hell, they will all fall to their knees. “By your Lord [Prophet] We shall gather them and the devils together and set them on their knees around Hell,” “and You will see every community kneeling.”

“The guilty will be known by their mark and will be seized by their foreheads and their feet, bound together in fetters, clothed in garments of pitch, faces covered in fire.” “Garments of fire will be tailored for those who disbelieve; scalding water will be poured over their heads, melting their insides as well as their skins; iron rods will be prepared for them; whenever, in their anguish, they try to escape, they will be pushed back in and told, ‘Taste the suffering of the Fire.’ ” “Those who reject the truth will stay in Hellfire, where they will neither be finished off by death, nor be relieved from Hell’s torment: this is how We reward disbelievers. They will cry out loud in Hell, ‘Lord, let us out, and we will do righteous deeds, not what we did before.’ ‘Did We not give you a life long enough to take warning if you were going to? The warner came to you, now taste the punishment.’ The evildoers will have nobody to help them.”

“Believers, guard yourselves and your families against a Fire fuelled by people and stones, and guarded by angels, stern and strong. […] You who disbelieve, make no excuses today: you are only being repaid for what you used to do.” People who do not know much about it have one of four reactions when it is mentioned to them:

1. “Such a thing does not exist. It is just something people have created to scare both their kids and themselves.”

God never breaks His promises. The disbelievers will certainly be punished for the sins they have accumulated. Most of them “say inwardly, ‘Why does God not punish us for what we say?’ Hell will be punishment enough for them.” “How sharp of hearing, how sharp of sight they will be when they come to Us, although now they are clearly off course!” “Among them are some who [appear to] listen to you (Muhammad) but We have placed covers over their hearts – so they do not understand the Qur’an – and deafness in their ears. Even if they saw every sign they still would not believe in them. If you could see, when they are made to stand before the Fire, how they will say, ‘If only we could be sent back, we would not reject the revelations of our Lord, but be among the believers.’ The truth they used to hide will become all too clear to them. Even if they were brought back, they would only return to the very thing that was forbidden to them – they are such liars.” “Even if a thick rope were to pass through the eye of a needle they would not enter the Garden.”

“Those who rejected the Truth will be led into Hell in groups. When they arrive, its gates will open and its keepers will say to them, ‘Were you not sent your own messengers to recite the revelations of your Lord to you and warn you that you would meet this Day?’ and they will say, ‘Yes indeed we were’. But the sentence of punishment will have been passed against those who rejected the truth. It will be said, ‘Enter the gates of Hell: there you will remain. How evil is the abode of the arrogant!’ But those who were mindful of their Lord will be led in groups to the Garden. When they arrive, they will find its gates wide open, and its keepers will say to them, ‘Peace be upon you. You have been good. Come in: you are here to stay,’ and they will say, ‘Praise be to God who has kept His promise to us and given us this land as our own. Now we may live wherever we please in the Garden.’ How excellent is the reward of those who labour!”

“On the Day the disbelievers are brought before Hell [it will be said to them], ‘Is this not real?’ ‘Yes, by our Lord,’ they will reply and He will say, ‘Then taste the punishment for having denied the truth.’ ” “For those who deny their Lord We have prepared the torment of Hell: an evil destination. They will hear it drawing in its breath when they are thrown in. It blazes forth, almost bursting in rage. Its keepers will ask every group that is thrown in, ‘Did no one come to warn you?’ They will reply, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we did not believe him. We said, “God has revealed nothing: you are greatly misguided.”’ They will say, ‘If only we had listened, or reasoned, we would not be now with the inhabitants of the blazing fire,’ and they will confess their sins. Away with the inhabitants of the blazing fire!” “What use have been your great numbers and your false pride? And are these the people you swore God would never bless? [Now these people are being told], “Enter the Garden! You have nothing to fear, nor shall you grieve.” “This is the Fire you used to deny: so is this sorcery? Do you still not see it? Burn in it – it makes no difference whether you bear it patiently or not – now you are being repaid for what you have done.”

2. “Ah, it is so far away! Let me enjoy myself now while I am here.”

“The disbelievers think it is distant, but We know it to be close.” “They say, ‘The Fire will only touch us for a few days.’ Say to them, ‘Have you received a promise from God – for God never breaks His promise – or are you saying things about Him of which you have no real knowledge?’ Truly those who do evil and are surrounded by their sins will be the inhabitants of the Fire, there to remain, while those who believe and do good deeds will be the inhabitants of the Garden, there to remain. These are the people who buy the life of this world at the price of the Hereafter: their torment will not be lightened, nor will they be helped.” “Among My servants there were those who said, ‘Lord, We believe. Forgive us and have mercy on us: You are the most merciful of all.’ But you kept on laughing at them: so intent were you on laughing at them that it made you forget My warning. Today I have rewarded them for their patience: it is they who will succeed. He will say, ‘How many years were you on earth?’ and they will reply, ‘We stayed a day or a part of a day, but ask those who keep count.’ He will say, ‘You only stayed a little, if only you knew.’ ”

3. “Not this again! Are you trying to scare me into believing in God? Your faith only comes from fear! This is no kind of life!”

That is a very common statement used by non-believers. Unlike what most people think, faith does not come from fear, nor does obedience. Obedience through fear is oppression, and God has forbidden oppression both on Himself and His creatures. We were given free will. If God used fear or threats to push people into believing, there would be no disbelievers on this earth. Faith comes from love. Love leads to faith; faith leads to knowledge – of God, life, the Hereafter; and knowledge leads to fear of disobedience: fear of transgressing God’s orders, and, then, fear of His punishment. “There is no fear for those who say, ‘Our lord is God,’ and then follow the straight path, nor shall they grieve: they are the people of Paradise, there to remain as a reward for what they were doing.” Hell was not created to implant faith. Hell is simply the reward of the disbelievers, while Paradise is the reward of the believers. I have never heard of anyone saying, “Do you think that you can bribe me into believing in God with Heaven?” It clearly states in the Qur’an: “There is no compulsion in religion.” “So can you [Prophet] compel people to believe?” “Say, ‘Now the truth has come from your Lord: let those who wish to believe in it do so, and let those who wish to reject it do so.’ We have prepared a Fire for the wrongdoers that will envelop them from all sides.”

4. “I am going there anyway. How bad could it be?”

Hell-Fire is a blazing fire, a crushing fire, a melting fire, raging and roaring for what the disbelievers have done and said about God. “What will explain to you what the scorching Fire is? It spares nothing and leaves nothing; it scorches the flesh of humans; there are nineteen in charge of it – none other than angels appointed by Us to guard Hellfire – and We have made their number a test for the disbelievers.” Let us suppose that Hell’s fire is not as painful as it is. Next time you take a bath, when you open the hot water, let us see how long you can endure the burn. Imagine yourself being in that state for a whole day. Now imagine being like that for all eternity. Have you ever tried to take out a pizza from an oven? Did you notice how bothersome it is when you get hit in the face by the hot air coming out? That is just hot air; that is not even fire.

While Muhammad PBUH was sitting with his companions, they heard a loud thud. So Muhammad PBUH asked them, “Do you know what this is?” They said, “No, what is it?” He said, “This is a rock that has been falling in Hell for 70 years. It is not until now that it reached its bottom.” This is the depth of Hell. Its width, however, is unknown. When the companions asked Muhammad PBUH to tell them about Hell and its torture, he said, “The fire of this world is one of 70 parts of Hell’s Fire.” This means that the burn of the fire of this world is one seventieth the burn of the fire of Hell. On that, one of the companions exclaimed, “O Prophet of God, the fire of this world would have been sufficient to torture the disbelievers!” Just to give you a clearer picture of what this means, consider this: the Sun is constituted of 70% hydrogen, 28% helium, and 2% ‘metals’. Its temperature is around 15 million kelvin. This temperature allows a nuclear fusion of two hydrogen atoms to form an atom of helium. That being said, the fire of the Sun is of this world, is it not?

“The fire of Hell was heated for a thousand years till it became red. Then it was heated for a thousand years till it turned white. Then it was heated for another thousand years till it turned black and extremely dark.” You might be thinking, “Isn’t Hell’s punishment too excessive? Isn’t it more than anyone deserves?” God sets the Ultimate Scale of Justice, and He does not wrong His creatures in the least. So when someone claims that God has a son and is made to enter Hell, it means that this blatant blasphemy truly deserved this torment. “When no friend will care about his friend, even when they are within sight of one another: the guilty person will wish he could save himself from the suffering of that day by sacrificing his sons, his spouse, his brother, the kinsfolk who gave him shelter, and everyone on earth, if it could save him. But no! There is a raging flame that strips away the skin, and it will claim everyone who rejects the truth, turns away, amasses wealth and hoards it.” Can you imagine yourself saying, “Throw my parents in the Fire, but not me!”?

“Those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, ‘Ask your Lord to lessen our suffering for one day.” Who among us would ever want to utter these words? Notice how they are just pleading for one day: not that God relieves them, or that He lessens their torment during their stay in Hell, but to just lighten the torment for one single day. They would consider that to be a blessing. “But they will say, ‘Did your messengers not come to you with clear evidence of the truth?’ They will say, ‘Yes they did,’ and the keeper will say, ‘You can plead, then, but the pleas of disbelievers will always be in vain.’ ” So the inhabitants of the Fire will go to Malik, the angel in charge of Hell. “They will cry, ‘Malik, if only your Lord would finish us off,’ but he will answer, ‘No! You are here to stay.’ ” So finally, they will supplicate God Himself.

“[…] Those whose balance is light will have lost their souls for ever and will stay in Hell the Fire will scorch their faces and their lips will be twisted in pain. ‘Were My messages not recited over and over to you and still you rejected them?’ They will say, ‘Lord, misfortune overcame us and we went astray. Lord, take us away from this and if we go back to our old ways, then we will be evildoers.’ He will say, ‘Away with you! In you go! Do not speak to Me!” “Taste this: more torment is all you will get from Us.” Look at their humiliation! Look at their regret! Look at their weakness! Look at their despair! Look at their misery! Look at their torture!

“We shall send those who reject Our revelations to the Fire. When their skins have been burned away, We shall replace them with new ones so that they may continue to feel the pain: God is Mighty and Wise.” All you will do in Hell is melt and regenerate. Can you imagine the flesh melting off your bones under fire that is 70 times more intense than the fire you know? Even the bones will crumble and dissolve. Take two minutes to actually digest this information. I tried to do so once and my back flinched on its own. “We have prepared a Fire […] that will envelop them from all sides. If they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten metal, scalding their faces. What a terrible drink! What a painful resting place!” “[The evil-doer] will be given foul water to drink, which he will try to gulp but scarcely be able to swallow; death will encroach on him from every side, but he will not die; more intense suffering will lie ahead of him.”

Inside Hell, there is also a tree called Zaqqum. “The tree of Zaqqum […] grows in the heart of the blazing Fire, and its fruits are like devils’ heads. It will be food for the sinners [hot] as molten metal. It boils in their bellies like seething water. ‘Take him! Thrust him into the depths of Hell! Pour scalding water over his head as punishment!’ ‘Taste this, you powerful, respected man! This is what you doubted.’ ” If one drop from Zaqqum were to land on this world, the people of earth and all their means of sustenance would be destroyed. This is what the disbelievers will have to forcefully eat!

“If only you could see [Prophet] how the wrongdoers will be made to stand before their Lord, hurling reproaches at one another. Those who were oppressed will say to the oppressors, ‘If it were not for you, we would have been believers.’ The oppressors will say to them, ‘Was it we who prevented you from following right guidance after it had reached you? No! You yourselves were sinners.’ The oppressed will say to them, ‘No, it was your scheming, night and day, ordering us to disbelieve in God and set up rivals to Him.’ When they see the punishment, they will fall silent with regret, and We shall put iron collars on the disbelievers’ necks. Why should they be rewarded for anything other than what they have done?”

“When they all appear before Him, the weak will say to the powerseekers, ‘We were your followers. Can you protect us from any of God’s punishment?’ They will reply, ‘If God had guided us, we would have guided you. It makes no difference now whether we rage or endure with patience: there is no escape.’ Do not think [Prophet] that God is unaware of what the disbelievers do: He only gives them respite until a Day when their eyes will stare in terror. They will rush forward, craning their necks, unable to divert their eyes, a gaping void in their hearts. So warn people of the Day when punishment will come to them, and when the disbelievers will say, ‘Our Lord, give us a little more time: we shall answer Your call and follow the messengers.’ Did you [disbelievers] not swear in the past that your power would have no end? So do not think [Prophet] that God will break His promise to His messengers: He is mighty, and capable of retribution.”

Those who join partners with God or ascribe Him offspring say, “How is this possible? How can God throw people who have done good in their lives into Hell just for worshipping other deities with Him?” The worst thing a person can do is to associate partners with God. This is the sin that God despises the most, and if people could only comprehend the extent of His Glory, they would see it as well. This injustice is directed towards their Creator, He who provides them with food and shelter and gave them sight and hearing and all that is good. God creates for them parents to look after them and they go thanking someone else? What is this ungratefulness?

Our existence on this earth is to worship God alone. By joining partners with Him, we end up denying the very purpose we were created for. Worshipping other gods, or claiming that God has a son is like putting minus infinity in your scale on the bad deeds’ side: no matter how much good you may have done, you could never do something which tops this crime. “God does not forgive the joining of partners with Him: anything less than that He forgives to whoever He will, but anyone who joins partners with God is lying and committing a tremendous sin.”

I cannot find a better application of the word ‘idiocy’ than when people know that God exists, but still do not do perform their duties. The last person who will enter Hell is the person who will suffer the least. God will say to him, “O My servant, if you had all the riches of the world, would you offer them as a ransom to save yourself from the Fire?” He will reply, “Yes!” But God will say, “My servant, I asked you for much less than this: not to worship others besides Me. Go and enter Hell! That will be your final abode!” Muhammad PBUH said, “The person who will suffer the least in Hell will be a man who will have a smoldering ember placed under his feet. This will cause his brain to boil (i.e. melt).”

What will become of Satan? “When everything has been decided, Satan will say, ‘God gave you a true promise. I too made promises but they were false ones: I had no power over you except to call you, and you responded to my call, so do not blame me; blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I reject the way you associated me with God before.” Could you imagine being one of those people whom Satan addresses in this speech? Could you imagine the fury that would burn in your heart if you heard him saying these words to you? This is the one whom you thought was powerful. This is the one whom you thought was ‘cool’ because of his rebellion. This is the one you chose to follow instead of God. So join him in Hell and do not blame anyone but yourself. Truly Satan is our sworn enemy, but too few realize it. Are you rewarded for anything except what you have done? This section is not intended to scare people into believing, but to warn them about what they might have to face.

Peace be with you
