I imagine Judas is in the same position. Clearly he believed in Jesus, at one point, so if simply "believing in Jesus" was enough then he's "saved" as well.

For those who say that one needs to "accept" Jesus in order to receive salvation, where is the proof text? You make such a statement and yet show no proof of where you come up with this. It is absolutely crazy to believe in something that you cannot even show where you get it from. If you are parroting something that you heard in church or from others that you can't explain then how do you truly understand this and therefore not blindly believe something? Did not Jesus say the blind will lead the blind into a ditch?



Is not merely accepting or believing in Jesus for salvation a work in itself? To accept or believe in him becomes a righteous action in order for you earn to your salvation, if I am following your line of thought correctly. This takes effort on the end of the acceptor or believer in order to accomplish this, right?

If believe in Jesus alone would get us into heaven, then Satan would have never been cast out of heaven.



I think that too many "Christians" believe in Jesus-yet-they don't do His will. You have "Christians" who are drunks-Jesus was NOT a drunk. He sipped wine, he turned the water into wine. You have "Christians" who smoke and do drugs, Jesus NEVER did such things, in the Bible it says not to put anything harmful into your body. Yet, "Christians" do it a lot. "Christians" go to parties, Jesus wouldn't go He said "be ye in the world, not of the world" also in the Bible it says "be not a partaker of other men's sins".

Some "Christians" aren't going to enter heaven either-because they are fulfilling the lusts of the flesh and do not have the fruit of the spirit! Those "Christians" because they believe will not into into heaven they will still be with Satan forever! Because Satan, who once, was a Holy angel, thought he should be God. And there are many gods in the world, Satan is one of them, he is the god of this world, not THE GOD who is the God of the world to come!

It's not all that's needed...the Sermon on the Mount is all about action, with faithfulness to the covenant.



Paul would say anything to gain converts...even belief in Jesus is all that's needed. Belief isn't belief without action.

Yes , Satan is covering up everything about Jehovah and even Jesus.

So , this is why we have the letter (Bible) from Jehovah to teach us the truth and even Jesus is the great teacher of all; that no men on earth can think like what Jesus' teaching us.

This way we can understand his words and block those demons and Satan. Or learn to avoid from Satan or demons.

Most, if not all religions ("christian"), teach belief in Jesus is all that's needed. I saw when flipping through the channels some time back those very words..."believe in Jesus and you'll be saved!".



Muslims believe in Jesus as well. So do Jews, but they all reject him as the Messiah.

We are given life and death statements in the Bible. One is if you do not repent you have lost your place in heaven. Then repentance is needed.



Next comes confess Jesus before others and Jesus will confess us before the Father. That, too, is a life or death statement.



Heb 11:6 Without faith it isn’t possible to please God. Those who come to God must believe that he exists. And they must believe that he rewards those who look to him. So we find faith is also important. Faith is active belief, not mere consent.

I agree, it takes more than just believing in Jesus to be saved.

Believing in Him is just the very first step on our road to salvation.



Also, how does one "accept" Jesus as people say - that doesn't really make sense to me, and it is not biblical.

I do not know anything about "accepting Jesus", but I do want Jesus to accept me.



Also, if all that a person must do is "believe on Jesus, or accept Him as their personal savior" and then they are saved forever... why does the bible speak about back-sliders? And also there are many things that the bible list that will not enter into heaven. So if a person has "accepted Jesus" and then they commit all kinds of sins (or even one of them) they cannot enter into heaven according to the Word of God.

Satan believes in Jesus. what it needed is an acceptance the Christ is the Saviour of your soul and trust in him. Prayer good works and Bible study follow that initial acceptance of Christ or maybe for some prayer and bible reading comes first. there are no set rules as to how you find or accept him. Exactly right. Which is why it is obvious that what we DO or don't do in our lives is just as essential as what we believe. In fact, believing and doing nothing is worse than not believing and doing nothing. The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the necessity for works of Christian charity. Just read the last paragraph of Matt 25 - a list of the kinds of works we must do, followed by a direct statement about what happens to people who don't do them! Could this be clearer?

When you say "believing in" you mean "are aware that He does actually exist" and the Bible says that demons do believe and tremble but when Christians talk about "believing" in Jesus they are talking about trusting Him with their soul and there has never been a demon or satan himself who has asked God to save their soul.God is the opposing power.A house devided against itself cannot stand.Why would satan ask the POWER that is in opposition against him to do anything for him.There is a spiritual battle right now all around us.Some are more aware of it than others, but all of the demons and satan himself are even more aware of it believe me.

Simple Answer, that belief, must be according... "To The Scriptures!" just as Jesus said.



(John 7:38-39) The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have rivers of living water flowing = = from his heart."

(John 7:39) Now he said this about the Spirit, = whom those who were believing in him = were to receive. For the Spirit was not yet present, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.



That Saving Belief is A "Heart" Belief... NOT... 'a head belief!'



Right after "9-11" many attended church and professed to 'Believe in Jesus'... thinking that Another Terrorist Attack was coming!



That was NOT Saving Belief! The Churches are NOW Empty again, so was their Belief..... Head or Heart? ONLY in their Head, Not their Heart!

I'm sure they will say you have to have FAITH in the fact that your transgressions on forgiven thru your faith in Jesus Christ and you have to ask for forgivness.



That's what is meant by FAITH or "believing"



OH.. and if you dig deep enough.. you also have to LIVE your faith each and everyday, so that means you have to also do "works" for it to be TRUE faith.



OH.. and if you dig deeper, you also have to LOVE everyone and not judge.





But, they still insist on "sole fide" or "faith alone" -- just their definition of "faith" incorporates a bunch of stuff.



Yet when the Catholic church says we are saved by "Faith working thru love" or Love, Faith AND Works -- they are put down by Protestants as "works based religion"

It's not believing in Jesus that saves you - it's putting your faith in Him and repenting of sin by your own choice. That's the difference. Of course Satan believes in Jesus - how do you oppose something that you don't believe exists? But that doesn't mean that he has faith in Him. Belief and faith are not the same. And Satan will never repent - he has to much pride to do that.

yes, although the Bible says we cannot earn our way into heaven (basically, in our current state we are unworthy, so nothing we can do will give us the reward of salvation) but it does say that our faith can save us - but James says that "faith without works is dead"

so really, we need to have faith, and make action upon that faith, in harmony with what God wants

in the Gospel's there are times when Jesus spoke to demons and they identified him as the Son of the Most High God, so clearly they believed, but you can hardly say they had faith, and certainly, that they weren't working in harmony with God's purpose

Thats false. It doesn't say works are not required, it says you're not saved by works. We're saved by the undeserved kindness (or grace) of God, thats what saves us. James 2:20 clearly states that faith without works is dead.

Yes, I agree with the person who said that it is accepting Jesus that gets you into heaven. Merely believing in him would make it too easy for the Christians, although many of them don't live by his teachings and believe they will be saved anyways.

Protestants believe we are saved by faith alone. Catholics believe it requires 'good works'. And I'm sure there are different varieties of Protestants who believe different things.



And, as someone else said, it isn't just believing that Jesus exists, it's what you believe about him. Nearly all branches of Christianity depend on obligatory doctrines.
