Question:
Are the people who have JPA or PHAA tags the same people who have "Coexist" bumper stickers?

Not to be negative here, but I don't know if the whole "teaming up" thing is positive.... doesn't that kind of alienate people? Not to say interreligous discourse isn't good, obviously it is... but what's stopping a JPCHMABEEA? Or a Jewish Pagan Christian Hindu Muslium Athiest Buddist Everthing Else Alliance?

Answer: Could be, though I know of no studies and have not questioned any of our Coexist friends ... I do find these bumper stickers appealing from a witty viewpoint while repulsed from a philosophical viewpoint.

.... Your "JPCHMABEEA" alliance will fail for two reasons:

a) Too many letters for an acronym.

b) Christians would not join.

c) Should the A be part of the acronym?

I don't actually HAVE one of those stickers on my Jeep, but it's definitely one that I have considered. I don't really see how tolerating (which is NOT the same thing as agreeing) could possibly be a bad thing.

What's stopping such an alliance? Absolutely nothing at all, except perhaps intolerance; I think it would be great. To my mind, that begs the question: Why would you WANT it stopped? What would be so awful about all those groups deciding to respect each other and not to denigrate each other? Is it truly necessary for you to hate another group to hold onto your own sense of who you are? If that's the case, I'd say your beliefs are a touch shaky.

I don't see it as a negative thing because it started as a pair of alliances in defense of the groups involved against a lot of misunderstandings and as a mutual aid society.

Actually, if there are people who are neither Jewish nor Pagan want to identify as supporters/auxilliary members of the JPA there is the JPAS (JPA Supporter) tag that they can use.

Nope, another stereotype busted. I don't have the sticker on my car. I have ones that reads:

STUPIDITY SHOULD BE PAINFUL

WOMEN MARINES, FEWER AND PROUDER

A fish with the word "N Chips" inside

What's wrong with two groups joining together to fight bigotry and misinformation? We don't try to recruit each other and we respect each other's right to their religions.

How can tolerance be a bad thing? Isn't that what Christians are always preaching? Or is it tolerance as long as you're converting to the "right" religion?

How about a tag of: T for Tolerant and encouraging dialog between groups?

Good question!

When i came here 2yrs ago r&s had a group of people who reigned as some sort of ministers, not Christian - they were all of different beliefs or non-beliefs, if you know what i mean.

Anyway they haven't been around for about a yr now -- people come and go here - they reign for a time and disapear -- i guess some people are insecure and need to have strength in numbers for support.

Personally i've never been one for groups -- i prefer to stand in my own strength - but it takes all kinds : )

blessings x

EDIT:

I was asked by a Christian man here if i would like to join myself with other 'spirit filled Christians' - i said bless you but no thank you...

I like to be free to share with anyone who's interested, and don't want to isolate anyone..

I don't have any bumper stickers on my car.

I'm a supporter of anyone who is respectful of others and their beliefs and opinions. There are people of all religions here who considerate and respectful and there are those that are not. The only thing that alienates people is their own behavior, not three letters under an avatar.

Alliance doesn't equate exclusiveness. The purpose for things such as the JPA and PHAA is for those of more minority beliefs to stand up for one another, basically. These sorts of things are purpose-driven, and outside of that specific purpose are people who wish to coexist with *everyone*.

For example- Mothers Against Drunk Driving does not mean a bunch of moms who refuse to associate with people who aren't fellow moms.

I love the idea of alliance, but I doubt certain factions would give up their places "on top" to form an alliance so that would make one difficult.

I think it's based on sharing a common idea of not pushing your beliefs on others and teaming up to not get pushed (or picked) upon.

So in that way, the JPA is encouraging positive relations between everybody.

Well I would love to have an anti-ignorance alliance. That would encompass all religious traditions (and non-religious thought)....banding together against ignorance :D.
