If God exists, why is there no mention of dinosaur fossils in any of the holy books of world religion?

Come now people, don't all pretend to be stupid. What Kate is asking is why an established fact like the existence of dinosaurs, who lived for considerably longer than the human races has currently lived should be excluded from the bible and other holy books, which are supposed to be authoritative accounts of creation.

To say that it isn't a zoology book is pure procrastination.

If you want to deny evolution, then do it, and stop pussyfooting about.

If you don't want to go that far then just don't bother to answer.

Saying that the creation story is a parable would be just about acceptable as an answer to her question, but avoiding the issue with stuff like 'It doesn't mention newts and warthogs either.' is just rubbbish.

For my part I would say that evolution is established beyond all doubt. To pretend it didn't happen, and that god left fake dinosaur bones about to test our faith is just stupid.

But to insist that there wasn't some sort of a god to set the whole thing going in the first place, is not absolutely necessary either.

However, whilst he/she may be watching how it all turns out, it is also unreasonable to expect him/her to intervene after the event because we ask on our knees with out hands pressed together, or we burn the right type of incense.

And worse, to expect him/her to be impressed by our killing each other for his/her sake is absolutely ridiculous.

Bush, Blair, Bin Laden and others please take note!

You ask for an educated answer but your question leaves a lot to be desired as to your education. This question is asked often and I can't understand why people can not see how people lived at different times in history. Also what was important and what was not.

99.9% of all people could not read or write during the time of Jesus. Actually, even well into the 20th century most people were not high school graduates. Why? They did not need to. Most were tradesmen or craftsmen who learned first hand from others. Every day there was much work to do besides their jobs. People had to cut wood, carry water, sew garments by hand, and they had little if any inter-action with others. People had to fish or hunt for food, which took up much of their time. They raised crops, which took up much of their time. There were no lights, TV, radio, newspapers, they knew little if anything of the "outside" world and unless someone attacked them, they simply labored all day as they had to.

People did not dig for or care at all about fossils, or much of anything as to the earth. They mined salt, gold, copper, iron ore, etc. And that was all they cared about, cause all digging was done by hand, always. Surely people found things over the centuries that they could not explain but, again, those things were worthless and surely not worth digging for.

Of course, even today there are many people like me that don't care much about fossils either. Humans claim great intellect when it comes to our past, but really when someone can tell me our future then I will listen up. All the fossils that have ever been found do not make life one bit better or worse, so who cares? Nothing that is learned from fossils will ever be: totally accurate; totally correctly dated; tell the whole story; and surely will never have any impact whatsoever in my life or your life.

because god actually bought the earth and previous owner done a fantastic job of tidying away all the crap to make earth appear a little more spacious. There is no mention of dinosaur fossils in the holy books as this deceit was discovered only once he had moved and settled in (post bible writing)

Having been lumbered with this bad buy he is now desperately trying to flog it, hence the viewers observed, we fondly call UFO's.

No offers have been made yet.

The Bible says that God created the large sea monsters. those have been probable the dinosaurs on account that they lived in or close to the water. Dinosaurs have no longer something to do with our salvation, in straight forward terms our interest. The Bible isn't a technological information textbook. yet, whilst it does point out scientific concerns it truly is consistently remarkable even although lots of the books have been written hundreds of years in the past.

Well dinosaurs are actually mentioned several times in the Bible, the most famous of which is the 'Leviathon' in the book of Job in the old testament.

There's a really good website called Clarifying Christianity which explains dinosaurs etc in great detail..just search it on google.

God Bless!

Question: “What does the Bible say about dinosaurs? Are there dinosaurs in the Bible?”

Answer: The topic of dinosaurs in the Bible is part of a larger ongoing debate within the Christian community over the age of the earth, the proper interpretation of Genesis, and how to interpret the physical evidences we find all around us. Those who believe in an older age for the earth tend to agree that the Bible does not mention dinosaurs, because according to their paradigm, dinosaurs died out millions of years before the first man ever walked the earth. The men who wrote the Bible down couldn’t have seen dinosaurs alive.

Those who believe in a younger age for the earth tend to agree that the Bible does mention dinosaurs though it never actually uses the word “dinosaur.” Instead, it uses the Hebrew word tanniyn (pronounced tan-neen; Strong’s #08577). Tanniyn is translated a few different ways in our English Bibles; sometimes it’s “sea monster,” sometimes it’s “serpent.” It is most commonly translated “dragon.” The tanniyn appear to have been some sort of giant reptile. These creatures are mentioned nearly thirty times in the Old Testament and are found both on land and in the water.

In addition to mentioning these giant reptiles in general nearly thirty times throughout the Old Testament, the Bible describes a couple of creatures in such a way that some scholars believe the writers may have been describing dinosaurs. Behemoth is said to be the mightiest of all God’s creatures, a giant whose tail is likened to a cedar tree (Job 40:15ff). Some scholars have tried to identify Behemoth as either an elephant or a hippopotamus. Others point out that elephants and hippopotamuses have very thin tails, nothing comparable to a cedar tree. Dinosaurs like the Brachiosaurus and the Diplodocus on the other had huge tails which one could easily compare to a cedar tree.

Nearly every ancient civilization has some sort of art depicting giant reptilian creatures. Petroglyphs, artifacts and even little clay figurines found in North America resemble modern depictions of dinosaurs. Rock carvings in South America depict men riding Diplodocus-like creatures and, amazingly, bear the familiar images of Triceratops-, Pterodactyl- and Tyrannosaurus Rex-like creatures. Roman mosaics, Mayan pottery and Babylonian city walls all testify to man’s trans-cultural, geographically-unbounded fascination with these creatures. Sober accounts like those of Marco Polo’s Il Milione mingle with fantastic tales of treasure-hoarding beasts. Modern day reports of sightings persist though they are usually treated with overwhelming skepticism.

In addition to the substantial amount of anthropic and historical evidences for the coexistence of dinosaur and man, there are other physical evidences, like the fossilized footprints of humans and dinosaurs found together at places in North America and West-Central Asia.

So, are there dinosaurs in the Bible? The matter is far from settled. It depends on how you interpret the available evidences and how you view the world around you. Here at GotQuestions.org we believe in a young earth interpretation and accept that dinosaurs and man coexisted. We believe that dinosaurs died out sometime after the Flood due to a combination of dramatic environmental shifts and the fact that they were relentlessly hunted to extinction by man.

Fossils were only 'discovered' in the 1800s and why would dinosaur fossils be mentioned anyway - the Bible is a living book :)

Leviathan and Behemoth are mentioned and both are described as being huge creatures!

and think again about what those ppl said ...

Professor Keith Moore, one of the world’s prominent scientists of anatomy and embryology. University of Toronto, Canada It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Qur’aan about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God, or 'Allah', because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a messenger of Allah.

Professor William W. Hay is one of the best known marine scientists in the United States. satellite photography and emote-sensing techniques. Professor Hay replied: I find it very interesting that this sort of information is in the ancient scripture of the Holy Qur’aan, and I have no way of knowing where they would come from, but I think it is extremely interesting that they are there and that this work is going on to discover it, the meaning of some of the passages. Professor Hay: Well, I would think it must be the divine being!

Professor Yushudi Kusan: Director of the Tokyo Observatory, I can say, I am very mush impressed by finding true astronomical facts in the Qur’aan.

Professor Alfred Kroner who is one of the world’s most famous geologists "Thinking about many of these questions and thinking where Muhammad came from, he was after all a bedouin. I think it is almost impossible that he could have known about things like the common origin of the universe, because scientists have only found out within the last few years with very complicated and advanced technological methods that this is the case.

Dr. T.V.N. Persaud is a Professor of Anatomy and Head of the Department of Anatomy, and a professor of Pediatrics and Child Health, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is the author or editor of 25 books, and has published over 181 scientific papers. In 1991, he received the most distinguished award presented in the field of anatomy in Canada. "It seems to me that Muhammad was a very ordinary man. He could not read or write. In fact, he was illiterate. We are talking about 1400 years ago. You have someone who was illiterate making profound pronouncement and statements and are amazingly accurate about scientific nature. I personally cannot see how this could be mere chance. There are too many accuracy’s and, like Dr. Moore, I have no difficulty in my mind in concerning that this is a divine inspiration or revelation which led him to these statements."

Why would dinosaurs, an animal that died out millions of years before the first human every appeared, concern the people writing the Bible?

Who knows, maybe when Satan was cast out of Heaven, he destroyed the dinosaurs. It's plausible.
anonymous

Because they were written before the significance of finding animal bones was recognised. Animal bones were all over the place! In any event, erosion and sea levels are what have revealed the fossils to us in recent times. Things were very different back then.

John 21:25 says: "There are, in fact, many other things also which Jesus did, which, if ever they were written in full detail, I suppose, the world itself could not contain the scrolls written."

If this is true of Jesus, then it is true of other people and incidents that happend in Bible times. Just because the Bible does not mention dinosaurs (though it does mention great sea monsters at Genesis 1:21) does not prove that God did not create them.

At Proverbs 2:4, 5, God says with regard to his word: "keep seeking for it as for silver, and as for hid treasures you keep searching for it". So God isn't necessarily going to spoon-feed people Bible truths. Some effort is required on our part to seek out truth. Perhaps by creating dinosaurs, and leaving the evidence of their existence in the ground, he was feeding our inquisitive nature giving us much to discover and ponder over.

I heard one theory that God created dinosaurs to fertilise the earth in preperation for man's arrival. That's one for you to ponder over!

Very good question. Thanks!

There are a LOT of things that are not mentioned in the bible !!!!

One of the big issues around this is the creation story 'Where are the dino's ??? ' Well to put it bluntly (and I am a Christian) that story was more of a pharable, to set the context for early Christians. To emphasis the fact that GOD is in charge, watches over things and things come via HIS power.

Think about it, God is all powerful - WHY WOULD HE NEED A REST ON SUNDAY ??????

I find it interesting, that most ancient temples, and monuments are found near to places where dinosaur fossils are found. Could the ancients have found big lizard fossils, and thought them to be anti-deluvian Gods?

God makes no reference of vietnam, korea, or the twin towers being destroyed in the bible. But those all took place. Maybe God didn't take into consideration what you think, after all he is GOD. If all you are wanting out of God is to know where the dinosaurs came from, you have a lot more to be conserned about, such as your salvation.

i'm not sure what your question has to do with anything. since the bible doesn't mention horse fossils or lion fossils, are we to believe they never existed?

because the Bible mentions dinosaurs themselves

simply because the idiots of the past 2000 years ago had no knowledge of science and archeology as we do today.you have to remember we are talking about simpletons who would believe in any thing that was said to them.it was a godless world then and still is.and some guy got crucified for claiming to be the son of a god.
