Question:
If your religion is divinely inspired and correct why are you so unsuccessful at converting unbelievers?

After all at any given time, the majority of the world does not believe whatever your sect or religion believes.

Convert is a pretty harsh word but basically... people don't want to join the major religions today because the foundation that those religions were built upon are so concealed in "tradition, hearsay, doctrines, interpretations" and the like that it's very difficult to dissect what is TRUTH?

Did Moses go up on a mountain and chill near a burning bush?

Did Jesus die for my sins?

Is there such a thing as "original sin"?

Do I really have to kneel, stand up, sit and repeat EVERY sunday/day?

Can I pray to any direction or only to the east?

Do I have to be in a church to pray?

Do I have to confess to a stranger or can God hear me when I'm alone?

I'm writing this from work on the Sabbath, will you stone me?

Mankind has smattered the very fabric that the true ideology was woven from. We've taken "thou shalt not" and turned it into so many "thou shalls" that it's hard to see what the Prophets were trying to express in the first place.

Who wants to join a religion that has several THOUSAND translations of the same historical events???

How about we go to the books and figure out what was written for ourselves? Read the words and talk with people of that faith then decide for ourselves what is right. After all aren't we really only responsible for our own soul? Perhaps we could take some more time to make sure we are intact?

While it is obvious that YOU are referring to Christianity, and trying desperately (again... sigh) to disrespect it, if you are referring to ALL religions that believe in god, God, or gods, then you are talking about fully 90% of the world's population that have some faith in some form of religion and supreme being(s).

But since you are "aiming" at Christianity, you are under the misconception that Christians convert people. Christians do NOT convert people. The Holy Spirit and the individual are the ones who convert. Christians are merely the "Gospel-givers." Jesus said to His disciples (Matthew 28:19-20), "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." The term used is TEACH, not CONVERT.

The Scriptures also tell us that "Many are called but few are chosen." In other words, sad though it may be, that most people will reject Christ, so it shouldn't come as any shock that "the majority of the world does not believe." It is a Christian's firm desire that ALL should come to faith in Christ, but we know, as Christ did, that this will simply not be the case.

Besides, God does not measure success by mere numbers.

Wow Preacher, what facts are you referring to exactly? Statistically speaking, 1/3 isn't a majority, so I can see where you're saying it's "unsuccessful". Given that I'm NOT a Catholic/Christian, whatever, I'd say that those who are Catholic, Christian, whatever, are unsuccessful at converting unbelievers because a lot of times they're fanatics or they simply don't want to believe. People believe in what they want to believe. Thanks to the fanatics who are freaks about religion, people might also be intimidated in, and out, of believing.

Largely because I have made no attempts to convert anyone to anything.

I do believe that ones personal spirituality is divinely inspired, and because of that only the individual can say what it should be, or if it should be.

I can't see into anyone's mind or heart. I can't see what God, the Creator, Him, Her, Them or whatever is saying or not saying, or showing or not showing them. And if I can't do that , then I have no right trying to tell that person what to believe, practice or disbelieve.

Its up to each individual to find their own spirituality.

Remember the time when people thought the earth is flat? It was the majority. In fact, those who taught otherwise were threatened. Did the fact that MOST people believed that the earth was flat, in fact, make the earth flat?

Nope.

Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself.

The righteousness of a religion isn't dictated by its number of members.

How many people donate to charity? If nobody does, does that mean that charity doesn't deserve attention?

You aren't talking to me. I am not trying to convert anyone. I'm wrestling with my own spirituality and religious beliefs and looking for a community where I can speak freely and frankly about where I am in my understanding of God or the Spirit of God in my life. And perhaps get some guidance, intended or inadvertent.

To me, at least, this quest is not a competition. You can seek and perhaps find your own answers in your own time. Peace be unto you and blessed be.

I am a Christian. There are thousands of new believers every day coming to follow Jesus Christ. However, this rapid growth is currently being seen mostly in Asia and Africa. I suspect we don't see similar growth in the U.S. due to a general lack of faith, prayer and care within the church.

Are you really feeling good about throwing out a question without knowing any facts? Or are you just lazy? Who told you the majority of the world does not believe? You don't even know what to call who your talking at. And you admit you don't know what we/they/it believe's.

The reason is because we are not in charge of converting people.

God is the one who chooses who will come to faith in Him eventually.

Romans 9:14-18 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! 15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”[a] 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”[b] 18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

One third huh?? Hmm...

Zechariah 13:9

I will bring the one-third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; And each one will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’”

Do you want people to constantly walk around trying to convert you and others? Maybe the believers as you call them simply have respect towards others beliefs. I am a Christian, but I don't go around trying to convert people.

Who said they were?

Just because you don't beleive, don't mean others don't.

One chooses to beleive or not. Its not that its unsuccessful. Its others who feel it is.

One can not force another, if they do not choose to be converted.

They've got this covered. "It's because people want to reject Jesus' love for them and live in sin! How selfish of them!"

edit: They're snake-oil salesmen. First they establish a need: "you're evil because you've committed all these sins you didn't know existed. Didn't do any of those accidentally? Well... original sin!" Then they sell you their product "All you have to do is show up to church, donate ten percent of your income, and give us your children to indoctrinate. Then you can feel good about how special you are!"

have you ever checked out the number of catholics just in America? Not to mention world wide. We have the greatest number of them all, and get new converts every single year in most all catholic parishes.

1/3 of the world is Christian.
