If you killed someone, while drunk, will the Catholic Church accept you and can you take Holy Communion, I have been told you cannot have Communion

Is this true?

Hi Candii,

I found this on a message board about the church.

Mortal sins (i.e. really bad ones) need to be confessed to a priest before you can receive absolution and purify yourself enough to be able to ingest the Body of Christ. You cannot take communion without being absolved of your mortal sins.

The 1983 Code of Canon Law says: "A person who is conscious of a grave sin is not to . . . receive the body of the Lord without prior sacramental confession unless a grave reason is present and there is no opportunity of confessing; in this case the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible" (#916). The requirement for sacramental confession can be dispensed if four conditions are met: (1) there must be a grave reason to receive Communion (i.e. imminent death), (2) it must be physically or morally impossible to go to confession first, (3) the person must already be in a state of grace through perfect contrition, and (4) (s)he must resolve to go to confession as soon as possible.

Ask a Catholic priest.

Yes, you cannot take communion. Even if you do it will have no effect on you. Since it has been a long time since your last confession here are some reminders for you.

1. You always have the option to go to confession anonymously, that is, behind the screen or face to face, if you so desire.

2. After the priest greets you in the name of Christ, make the sign of the cross. He may choose to include a reading from Scripture for reflection. Then say: "Bless me Father for I have sinned. It has been (state how long) since my last confession. These are my sins."

3. Tell your sins simply and honestly to the priest. (You might even want to discuss the circumstances and the root causes of your sins and ask the priest for advice and direction.)

4. Listen to the advice the priest gives you and accept the penance from him. Then make an Act of Contrition for your sins.

5. The priest will dismiss you with the words of praise: "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good" or the "the Lord has freed you from your sins. Go in peace." And you respond by saying either: "His mercy endures forever" or "Thanks be to God."

6. Spend time with our Lord thanking and praising Him for the gift of His mercy. Try to perform your penance as soon as possible.

An Act of Contrition

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they have offended Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

God bless!

You cannot receive Holy communion if you have any unconfessed sins on your soul. This is the reason that we are gently nudged to go to confession weekly but many do not.

I'm guessing that you're a Protestant. Or a member of one of the many offshoot sects.

Tell me this: Can you do the same and get into Heaven, according to your particular sect?

You need to ask for forgiveness first by confession.

who cares, you dont need some perverted priest to talk to god. Talk to god yourself, pray to god not anyone or anything else.
