A pentagram is a five pointed star drawn with continuous lines.

As a religious symbol,

in Christianity it represents the five wounds of Christ

in the three Abrahamic religions (ie: Christianity, Islam, Judaism) it can represent the five senses

and is often called "The Seal of Solomon"

The pentagram in its Christian meaning was the heraldry of Sir Gawain, one of the knights of the Round Table

Today, it appears on the flag of Morocco as "The Seal of Solomon"

It is also used by Rock and Roll groups as a symbol for things parents will find shocking (ie: Satan or Witchcraft)

and it is used by teenagers who want to claim some intense and shocking allegiance to shock their parents or be cool before their friends.

So --

it can symbolize King Solomon

it can symbolize Jesus

and it can symbolize Satan

Whichever one you want.

Certain religions and sects are convinced that everything but their own symbols are evil/satanic. Symbols only mean what we say they mean and I tend to side with the people using the symbol for the definitive answer as to what that symbol means.

It is a geometric shape that originally represented the five wounds of Christ. It warped in to a pagan symbol because of Anton LaVey, the supposed Satanist, but more likely self publicist.

Yes its used and has been throughout history in many occult circles. Maybe it doesn't mean a lot to us, but these symbols do carry a lot of significance with occultism.
