Let's see what the NIV has to say about this instrument of death.

Deuteronomy 21:22 (NIV) 22 If someone guilty of a capital offense is put to death and their body is exposed on a pole,

Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”

The prophecy stated Jesus would be hung on a 'pole' and not on a cross.

Why the NIV translates this simple word as pole in Galatians and cross at Acts 5:30 is beyond me.

Please note this reference work: Acts 5:30:

"a stake: Or “a tree.” The Greek word xyʹlon (lit., “wood”) is here used as a synonym for the Greek word stau·rosʹ (rendered “torture stake”) and describes the instrument of execution to which Jesus was nailed. In the Christian Greek Scriptures, Luke, Paul, and Peter used the word xyʹlon in this sense five times altogether. (Ac 5:30; 10:39; 13:29; Ga 3:13; 1Pe 2:24) In the Septuagint, xyʹlon is used at De 21:22, 23 to translate the corresponding Hebrew word ʽets (meaning “tree; wood; piece of wood”) in the sentence “and you have hung him on a stake.” When Paul quotes this scripture at Ga 3:13, xyʹlon is used in the sentence: “Accursed is every man hung upon a stake.” This Greek word is also used in the Septuagint at Ezr 6:11 (1 Esdras 6:31, LXX) to translate the Aramaic word ʼaʽ, corresponding to the Hebrew term ʽets. There it is said regarding violators of a Persian king’s decree: “A timber will be pulled out of his house and he will be lifted up and fastened to it.” The fact that Bible writers used xyʹlon as a synonym for stau·rosʹ provides added evidence that Jesus was executed on an upright stake without a crossbeam, for that is what xyʹlon in this special sense means."

When a translator or person goes beyond the basic word 'stake' or 'pole' by reading 'cross' they have actually changed a word in God's inspired book.

They do this to support their belief system and not God's word.

A letter attributed to Paul flat-out admits that "IF the Christ be not truly risen...." the preaching of Paul, and the faith of Christians, is in vain.

So, rather than arguing over what the Romans may have employed while killing Jesus, how about some TESTABLE EVIDENCE that Jesus is not still DEAD?

Is Risen Jesus a GOD which KNOWS All Things?

Does Risen Jesus have the Infinite POWER to answer prayers?

Does Risen Jesus have the ABILITY to inspire people?

If so, YOU could, ANY Believer could, simply pray to Him to tell you what He already knows, and which I can easily FACT CHECK.

It seems odd that some God would be willing to DIE for me ( a favor for which I did not ask), but will not bother to provide testable proof that stories about Him being no longer dead, were not just MADE UP by mere mortals, trying to peddle a new Belief System for their own benefit.

If you believe that Jesus died on a torture stake, you have to believe that a tree is a stake. That doesn't make sense.

There's no such thing as a "staurus." The Greek word is "staurós" and it means "cross." Referring to the cross as a "tree" is figurative language. Crosses were made of wood and wood comes from trees.

It's that simple.

1) Did Jesus die on a STAURUS or on a cross?

The question employs what is known as a "false dichotomy". In Koine Greek (the Greek of the Biblical period), the word "stauros" (note spelling) referred specifically to the Roman crucifixion device ***regardless of shape*** (and we know from contemporary accounts that MANY different shapes were used by the Romans).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stauros#Koine_Greek

In fact we don't know with absolute certainty the shape of the torture device used to crucify Jesus...

but given the (very limited) information available

it does seem most likely that it was a "tau" cross.

Of course that is NOT certain, that is merely what is likely based on very sparse evidence.

2) Why did the book of act say TREE if it were a cross?

For several reasons:

A - it was made of wood (as is a tree)

B - it was upright (as is a tree)

C - the author was quoting Old Testament Scripture and applying it to the crucifixion of Christ

I point out that a tree is ***also not a stake or in the shape of a stake***.

3) What is the Greek word used in the Bible?

The word "stauros" is Greek.

If you mean a different word then you should be VERY much more specific.

Maybe that was because Krishna was said to have died in a tree. Most of Judeo-Christian mythology comes from other/previous cultures.

Nothing indicates that the stories about Jesus might be true or that he actually existed.

THE cross is loved and respected by millions of people. The Encyclopædia Britannica calls the cross “the principal symbol of the Christian religion.” Nevertheless, true Christians do not use the cross in worship. Why not?

An important reason is that Jesus Christ did not die on a cross. The Greek word generally translated “cross” is stau·rosʹ. It basically means “an upright pale or stake.” The Companion Bible points out: “[Stau·rosʹ] never means two pieces of timber placed across one another at any angle . . . There is nothing in the Greek of the [New Testament] even to imply two pieces of timber.”
