Im from England ,i love a good old sing ,the few times a year ive been in church each year ,pucker up for a spiritual sing ,the village organist spoils the whole procedings with her duff notes then assembly sing all doom and gloom,i come out the place feeling more depressed.the lyrics are cool and im not knocking any religion or culture but its boring. in this horrible world currently, shouldnt we be attracting more people to our holy places and not turning them away?

i think of Elvis had the greater advantageous voice yet Ray could desire to do greater on a Piano however Elvis become a first rate rythym guitarist and a magnificent preformer. i will choose Elvis in view that Gospel song is the place he started. MQ: Elvis become very arguable and recieved somewhat some critiscism whilst he become in his 20's. Elvis this is puzzling to assert if Elvis could have ever been arrested because of the fact he wasn't doing unlawful drugs yet some intervention surley could have helped him

I know what you mean and in fact my daughter has been in a gospel choir. However, it isn't either/or. There are a lot of uplifting and lively hymns too, some of which are written by a friend of mine actually. Besides that, there are other moods which are appropriate because we come to God as we are, not just as we should be, and in particular a contemplative and meditative atmosphere to a song also makes a lot of sense.

I'm sure you'd like Coca-Cola and crisps at Holy Communion too.

England has an unsurpassed tradition of sacred choral music. Gospel is fine in its place, and its place is America. People who like that sort of thing can go there, and they will not be missed.

The English Church cannot be all things to all people. Whatever kind of music you favour will be turning some people away - everyone who goes to my very Anglo-Catholic parish (including many students) would flee at the bawling cacophony of Gospel . We should do what we are good at. And the Church of England is good at organ and choral music - the English simply do not have the national character for hand-swaying and head-banging. Long may it be so.

I attend church regularly. The worship at our church is very lively. We don't have just one organ but a whole band consisting mainly of youngsters. Usually modern songs are sung, occasionally an old hymn is added and they have their own nostalgic value and importance but there is never a dull moment.

I find the organ uplifting, not depressing.

'Gospel' music gives me a headache.

Gospel music is an abomination, it is just voodoo mumbo jumbo. All gospel singers will go to hell
