Time is an invention that only exists on this material plane. God is timeless.

Matter an energy cannot be destroyed only changed back and forth. That's simply a scientific fact. So the universe has always existed. If god exists and he made the universe he now IS the universe because the energy he used to make it would have to come from him if nothing else was around. Also there is no before time. Time is a line it has no beginning or end.

How the hell can you have a 'before time' ??

Sheesh...

'People say God has always existed? Why then couldn't there be a universe that existed before time?'

This STILL doesn't make sense.

Why is the sudden appearance of a super intelligent, omnipotent, omniscient, thing that goes on to create everything else, easier for you to conceptualize than the sudden appearance of the entire universe? Both ideas are pretty crazy, but at least one doesn't have intelligence from nothing in it!

There could. Anything is possible in this situation. For example, if I said we were created by a league of invisible purple unicorns that has existed for all eternity, would you be able to prove me wrong? If you think so, try. There's no way to tell that we were or weren't created by something, and what that something could or couldn't be. All we can do is figure out which possibility is most like. I'm just atheist/agnostic because I think it's a lot more likely that the universe always existed, and that we are the result of numerous chemical reactions, than that we were poofed into the world by a giant bearded wizard in the sky. Don't just think of what's possible, think of what's probable.

The universe is everything. If something existed before everything, say God for example, than he would have to make the Universe from nothing. In simpler terms, that would mean 0=1.

Your are standing on the evidence for the universe. But try and produce the tiniest, little bit of verifiable evidence that any sort of god has ever existed - since the bible is merely a book not written until several hundred years after everyone mentioned in it would have been dead the simple answer is there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever for a god.

Because there is overwhelming evidence for the universe and a huge amount of evidence that there are no such things as gods!!

Academia states that in the absence of proof of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable proof is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!!

At best he was an amalgam of those others!!

The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Christian enemies - so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!!!

The first person to provide a shred of verifiable evidence for God will become world famous and mega rich!! Ain't happened yet and it never will!!

So how does this primitive belief survive? The answer is simple and very down to Earth!!

Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.

They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!!

Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!!

Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.

Sadly Christians are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!!

Actually Einstein thought the universe always existed but could not prove his own theory. Everything he discovered pointed to a finite beginning. Lemaitre's further work bore that out, followed by Hubble.

It hasn't.

The universe had a definite beginning. There is sufficient evidence to prove the Big Bang.

Science actually says that all matter and energy has always existed, and cannot be created nor destroyed. It was just in another form prior to it's current one.

(And God said "Let their be light!")

Big Bang.

Take care.

Some people say god has always existed. It's fair for me to say the universe has, right? It is almost an endless argument.

How is there a "before" with something that has always been? The universe is there, there is evidence. God is not, there is none.

Because there's no evidence of a god existing even now.

There is no evidence the universe always existed. Because of the beauty of the universe and how it obeys the laws of motion and gravity, it would be foolish to think God does not exist.

Because without time, there is no BEFORE. Without time, there is no before, no after, no during. Without time THINGS CAN NOT HAPPEN. Because in order for a thing to happen, there needs to be a process, and for a process, time needs to pass, and obviously, time can not pass if there is no time.

The universe has not always existed. If it had, it would have died of heat loss an eternity ago.

That would mean that this 'omnipotent' being hit the snooze button every day until 6000 years ago.

What a lazy bum.

that's not true--astronomers believe that the universe was created 4.6 billion years ago and that it will come to an end on day

This question has no answer. No one really knows. Which is why people create omniscient, omnipotent gods. To answer these questions.
