Question:
Christian arrested for evangelising in Bangladesh? Why is this ok?

Just one of a long list of Christian suppression world-wide:
Why should a Christian be sentenced to a year's imprisonment in Bangladesh for evangelising?
See: http://www.christiantoday.com/article/christian.in.bangladesh.goes.to.prison.for.evangelism/27742.htm
Why is this right? Why is this ok? Why do some Muslims think they have the right to do keep this kind of suppression?

Yet the UN has announced and made several religious tolerance resolutions which are meant to promote religious expression? So, Bangladesh a member of the UN, is meant to uphold these same freedoms for all as well.
What is your attitude or is it ok with you?
Those who don't support the freedoms of others to express their opinions, may well find they lose the support of others to express theirs.

This is not at all right. Being members of the U.N., they should have freedom of religion and expression laws. If they don't, then the U.N. should insist on it.

It is also interesting that some of the people who answered clearly didn't read the article. The arrested Christian was Bangladeshi, and pleaded guilty to the charge as read, showing that he thought the law was unjust. It doesn't matter whether he broke the law-the question here is about whether that law is just, and whether you agree with it.

You have the right to your opinions and to express them but others have the right, in their own country to make laws that you do not force your opinions on others. You do not have the right to come into my home and evangelise - I would tell you to leave immediately and it would be an offence if you did not. Same with any other country. The evangelist knew - or should have known the law when they went to Bangladesh but did not think it applied to them.

To be honest, after reading the article, it sounds as if this idiot decided to hand out leaflets which some found offensive at a Muslim festival! I guess many christians would feel just as outraged if a muslim or member of any other religion started handing out leaflets about their religion at a Christian festival. He caused chaos and was probably removed for his own safety.

Why is evangelizing OK? why are all the people in the world required to let Christians get in our faces?

evangelizing/proselytizing is the most repugnant behaviour on the planet.

if it is against the law of a specific country to evangelize, then don't do it. Regardless of the UN the Geneva Convention gives individual nations internal sovereignty. The whole world does not have to tolerate anyone,

It's like lighting up a cigarette in someone's home after you have been asked not to smoke.

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

You see from your long line of answers that not only do the Muslims hate Christ but many here also hate Christ. They condemn themselves as no better than Muslims.

Even though life has been given to them and Christ died for them and gave Himself that they might escape suffering, yet they do not want to know.

Christian missionaires need to stay out of muslim countries and stop trying to impose their religion on others.

He was not arrested for "evangelizing". He was arrested for almost starting a riot outside a Muslim gathering (The World Muslim Congregation) in a country that is 89% Muslim. He's an idiot for not thinking this would happen.

You should abide the law of the country.

It shows very clearly that you are arguing to brake it and expecting people to stay still. How silly!?

Waik up to your self. YOU ARE BRAKING THE LAW OF THE COUNTRY.

No it's not ok and as far as I could read he did not break any law. They charged him for, 'creating chaos'. All he was doing was distributing tracts and booklets. Albeit near Muslims but if anyone tried to do the same with Satanic lit. in a Christian crowd here, could we rely on the law to make them end up in court and go to jail? No.

He has no one to blame but himself and his stupidity. Refer to the numerous other answers explaining the concept of "law" to you. I mean, would you feel the same way if this was an atheist being arrested for being an atheist in Saudi Arabia?

here is a different point of view.

say you had a Muslim come up to you and say " you should belive in my god, he is the only god the true god, if you love him you'd find your way into heaven for his is the light and your Saviour!"

You as a Christian would be pretty upset wouldn't you. You would feel that the Muslim had no respect for your Faith and belief.

what if that Christian who got arrested was trying to convert Muslims, what if they got offended for his lack of respect for their religion?

You are right there is such thing as religious tolerance, but like with other things its a two way street.

We should get Muslims when they preach to us as well. What goes around must come around.

So he tried to troll in real life but failed...

I mean, come on. You're asking for it if you go arguing at a MUSLIM GATHERING.

Islam is not very open to such things. besides, Christ already warned about these things, why are we surprised?

I'm with Spuds. Your personal beliefs do not allow you to break other people's laws. It is your business to know what behaviour is/is not acceptable in any country you visit.

When you are in a country, you must obey the laws of that country. If you don't, you must be prepared to accept the punishment for breaking the law.

No, this is not OK.

Muslims claim to respect Jesus and his teachings.

Then they need to respect that Jesus told his followers to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." - Mark 6:15

It's very wrong and I'm definitely NOT okay with this. However, as a missionary, you should be prepared for persecution and worse, even though we do not deserve it.

It's not okay. No one has the right to stop someone from evangelizing.
