Regarding the Shroud of Turin?

Today on a Morning TV show, an interview was held with a writer on the topic of the Shroud of Turin which is held to be the Burial Cloth in which Jesus Crucified was wrapped. The image of a man, said to be Jesus in death, is imprinted/shown on the winding cloth. My point is that the writer, while sympathetic to religious claims made re. the Shroud as being authentic, also stated that the image when viewed by the women and later the Apostles, was thought by them to be a 'living image' and for him this constituted the origin of the doctrine of the Resurrection of Christ, Body and Soul. What say you?

The study is bout 50-60 yrs. For those who do not believe in the truth of the Shroud, the modern testimony of Jesus of Nazareth, should at least read the recent updates:

After all the scientific and archeological studies of the Shroud, they still could not figure out how the image was imprinted in the cloth.

The 1200 year study is not based on the real cloth. The test was from a patch which off course correspond to the 1200year. So, the current test post 2005 was determined as old as 2,000 yrs.

See St. Thecia's links here on the authenticity of the Shroud. But on the question of the origin of the doctrine of the Resurrection of Christ, no, the Shroud was not a factor. The only mention in the Bible is that the Shroud was found in the empty tomb. Jesus was seen alive, first by Mary Magdalene, then by the disciples, and eventually by about 500 witnesses, most of whom were alive to contradict any written accounts when they were published. There are several first-century accounts that differ slightly, as is typical with eyewitness testimony. This is powerful evidence for the historical fact of the Resurrection of Christ.

The Shroud of Turin has been within the Catholic Church for centuries. Scientists did study the Shroud of Turing during the 1970's to determine if it was authentic. They came back with the carbon copy dating during the Middle Ages. Latter on evidence was brought forward of a painting which shown the Shroud of Turin being held in the same spot as the samples were taken back during the 1970's, so it was contaminated by the people who had been handling the Shroud of Turin. The other thing the Shroud of Turin was almost destroyed along time ago by a fire which had started in the church which it was stored.

Another ridicules theory was that the image was painted on by an artist, which was dismissed because tests had proven that the blood on the Shroud of Turin was actual human blood. The individual had several wounds on the head where the crown of thorns was located, several lashes which could have been made by scourging, and wounds in the hands and feet. The other thing was the image had been burned into the Shroud of Turin as from a hot source of light.

When His Spirit reunited with His corporeal body it was made new as an incorruptible body (Immortal). Much like what will happen with us during our resurrection. I don't know where people go this idea that Jesus ascended into Heaven in Spirit, but if you read the Gospels it clearly says the "Son of Man" ascended into Heaven as even stated by the prophet Isaiah. The other thing Jesus was the only Man both in body and Spirit to enter into His Kingdom, His Mother had died and He assumed her corporeal body into His Kingdom. From the Old Testament Enoch and Elijiah did not enter into His Kingdom in their corporeal body, but rather their spirits where taken into His Kingdom. Remeber Christians go by the teachings of Jesus not the Jewish Talmud, being carried off in chariots into the sky was a nice way to say they had died and risen into His Kingdom.

I belive it is a fake. I believe it was a very artful and creative fake given it was probably created in the middle ages but it is not a burial shroud and not the shroud of jesus. Jesus was a guy who was put to death by the Romans and buried.

I think its interesting from a historical point of view. People in the middle ages were creating and selling relics to the faithful for various reasons and the people "needed" items like that because their world was in chaos so from a historical point of view, the shroud is interesting but do I think it was a burial shroud, let alone the burial shroud of jesus, no. I don't. I think science has proven it is a fake and I actually have to give credit to John Paul II for allowing it to be tested. It will probably never be allowed to be tested again.

Recent test by science investigators show that the shroud is genuine

I believe this shroud to be a fake. why? The bible teaches that, upon entering the tomb, the apostles saw two cloths neatly folded, one at the head, and one at the feet where Jesus had lain.

Two. Not one long cloth.

He is trying to sell a book no doubt. That shroud was one of hundreds that used to grace medieval churches in Europe.

I believe that the Shroud of Turin is a fake because it was made in the 14 Century and does not have any Mideast fibers!

Since it can be reproduced in the lab, I don't see it as being holy.
