this way?? I don't understand why certain people (I don't want to stereotype) feel that Atheist are evil people... I came across this and I want your input... I don't understand how this person can say we shouldn't be parents because of our beliefs which by the way he is clearly wrong...

I just want to know are there individuals out there that is sick and tired of being labeled as evil and uncaring individuals just because we don't believe in religion and we base our beliefs on fact rather than fiction...? His reasoning's are so far fetched that I couldn't even make through half of it because it's total bullsh!t...!

Religion doesn't have anything to do with how good a parent one is. There are good and bad parents of all faiths, just like there are followers of different religions that actually live the values of their religion to varying degrees of success.

You might as well say something like: I had bad parents, and both of my parents ate pickles. Therefore, anyone who eats pickles is a bad parent. It's a non-sequitur fallacy

Everyone gets labelled on these internet forums. It's a means of segregating. And don't think it's not done by all sides. The implication from your question is that "theists" and "straights" have a bigoted view of you; therefore, you have already labeled them as well. Naked Troll may have said it best - there is an efficiency that goes with grouping people together - it's not completely effective, but we cannot get to know each individual personally on the web. There are "identifiers" that provide us with some insight into that which is important for those on the forum.

its not just athiest... Smoe people group atheist and label them but then many athiest do the same thing with Christians. So what can you expect? It is a never ending circle that just keeps going and going. Just hatred from one religion to another. But any true believer of God and Jesus christ should know that God wants us to love others as ourselves. Many people forget that. As for other beliefs, religions, perceptions, or whatever... I can not really answer on their behalf. I think the individual person can be a good or bad parent and eventually it is the Childs decision which path they will follow or what they will believe. That guy was in the wrong for basing his theory on ONE individual parent and then labeling it to ALL atheist... But at the same time I hate being labeled as a "Christian who pushes peolple into their beliefs and damns all to hell who do not believe as I do"

There are zealots within every system of belief that purport to speak for everybody when in fact they speak for very few. I am a Christian, and I think, a reasonably tolerant person when it comes to recognizing that not everybody else is, and yet I see Christians being (to use your words) "labeled evil" all the time.

The bottom line is that regardless of what any of us believe or don't believe, some of us are tolerant and understanding of different views and some of us are not. No one "group" has cornered the market when it comes to being ugly to other people.

EDIT #1 - One more thought. As a Christian, it saddens me that some Christians think bullying, intimidating, coercing or guilting people into salvation is going to work. How un-Christ-like. But sadly it happens.

As described, the asker's father sounds pretty horrible. I think the "atheist" label was just the asker's way to categorize him and get some psychological distance from him. There are too many people in the world who think and act this way, regardless of their supernatural beliefs. But it is awfully satisfying to be able to attribute all the evil in the world to people you don't like anyway.

Because ignorant people think that atheists are incapable of telling from right and wrong and having morals. The fact is that the only difference with religious people is that they don't do things because an old book tells them is a "sin" or not. Every human has a set of standards even before religion, otherwise how do they judge if they should follow a god or not. Or which one to follow to begin with.

Damn. Sounds like Daddy didn't love him enough. LOL

On the flipside, my dad was a overly devout Christian and I got whipped with a belt every day for some imagined sin. What a great Chrstian Dad I had!

Because they are insane, no other reason, just plain old insane, just think of how much hatred that person must have to concoct that two hour rant against a group of people he has probably never even met.

Technically we don't need a label but it's a way to describe the lack of a belief in god(s)? I guess we could do that very often. We could start calling ourself afairiest, aunicornist. Where does it end?

Their is the scientific atheist who uses logic and then their is the ignorant atheist who wants to do nothing more then make statements without having a basis or a form of proof.

That guy was stupid. Boohoo, his dad wasn't the best dad in the world. Well neither was mine. But I don't judge ALL Muslims in the world based on his foolish actions.

i dont think they are evil, i just dislike how they target christians when god is mentioned. we are the only religion who believe in god, yet when they talk down on religions they only target christians. i think thats rude.
