Kings 2:23-24

New King James Version (NKJV)
23 Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”
24 So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.

Bible verses you never see quoted or you hear preached in church.. pick and choose. And you wonder why I am an atheist?

Christians love to ignore those and continue to claim that the Bible is a wonderful and beautiful book.

Thanks for the laugh.

This is your reasoning? Seriously? Do you not see how lame this excuse is? I bet you used "My dog ate my homework" a lot in school.

You don't even know enough to properly site scripture. 1 kings or 2? It's 2 Kings, dear.

In this passage, some men are mocking a prophet. The Lord sends the bear to eat them. Generally speaking, the church does not condone mocking anyone. Or cursing anyone. That's why verses like these are not quoted. It's not about pick and choose. It's about the most important lessons.

If you are an athiest because a few verses are misunderstood and not mentioned on a regular basis that is unfounded and likely childish, what about the rest of the bible, feel the same way?. Please read on. It is all about the blood of Jesus Christ and him Crucified, if you understand that you are on the way to salvation.

23 And he went up from thence unto Beth-el: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, you bald head; go up, you bald head (the words, “little children,” are probably an unfortunate translation; the Hebrew word is “na’ar”; it can mean anything up to 40 years old; as well, the words, “bald head,” do not necessarily mean that Elisha had no hair on his head; it could have signified a “worthless fellow”; at any rate, it was a term of contempt).

24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the Name of the LORD (placed a curse on them). And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tore forty and two children of them (when they insulted the man of God, they, in effect, were insulting the Lord).

The moral is don't mess with Elisha. Evidently the children, maybe very similar to your case, had poor parenting. God did society a favor.

As to wondering why you are an atheist, I do not wonder. I always assume either willful or unintentional ignorance. Usually the case is willful. Pity you would let verses like this sway you to unbelief instead of weighing all of the evidence then coming to the logical conclusion. God has done things in the past that I do not understand, but I still believe beyond a reasonable doubt that there is a God. AND that He will hold us accountable for our actions here on earth so it is important to learn about Him and His will for us -- not just get hung up on some occurrence that took place thousands of years ago.

Think about it! Figure it out!

I have heard these same verses used in sermons before, so you are incorrect in your suggestion that certain parts of the Bible are being covered up.

That said, Kings is essentially a book of history. In history, you find many examples of things that seem unjust or even cruel. Biblical history is no different. You shouldn't expect to find a sugar-coated fantasy inside. In fact, even Biblical heroes like David are shown to be ordinary men capable of committing great sin. There is something that can be learned from all of it.

The Bible does contain proven facts. It has merit. However, it is necessary to be able to think for yourself. I am a Christian in an unconventional way. I make conclusions based on what I've read and what I've seen- I do not automatically believe information that is fed to me by others.

If you don't want to believe then don't. Just keep in mind that nothing nor no one is perfect.

Omg I hate people like you. "and you wonder why I'm an atheist" you say

1. If you don't believe in what the bible says, IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU ATHEIST.

2. What are you trying to prove?

3. I'm still going to be Catholic no matter what you say.

4. If you want to be an atheist, go ahead! No one's stopping you. You don't have to prove **** because you don't believe in any. This, by the way, is the stupidest "proof" I have seen yet. You can do way better.

I am a solitary electic pagan but I can say as a former Christian they do throw around the bible like it is a sword and then say we ate all going to Hell but they never mention a word of the bad things said in the bible

ROFL You've obviously never been to my church. I don't give a hot fudge sundae if you don't believe in any God. Nor am I owed any answer as to why you don't. it's your decision not mine. You're entitled to your own opinion. Lastly, what's wrong with the verse? I don't see the problem. God will not be mocked. Thank heavens we're under grace now.

They judged Elisha for his lack of social cohesiveness

So he destroyed their innocence of Expression, and they lost their purity

If your going to kick a tiger in the rear you better have a plan for it's teeth

If your going to mock God like these teenagers, you better be ready to pay the price

All who oppose God face destruction, its just a matter of when and how

They were mocking the obvious prophet of God having seen this miraculous display that took Elijah

Great point in proving the bible and religion is wrong.

I'm a christian, but I don't believe in the bible. I say what I've always said about it. It was added in or tweaked in some sort of way or a miss-translation.
