Question:
Just out of curiosity, where is the bible in your library?

I just wanted to see where it is in your public library. I have looked at four libraries and two were in reference and the other two in Adult fiction.

If the Bible is all truth, why wouldn't it automatically go to the non-fiction section?

I like to go to the library on the weekends and hide it in the 'Fiction' section.

It's in the religion section though.

I thought you were asking about my personal home library which contains 4 different Bible translations. A Bible translation rightly belongs in non-fiction or reference section of the library. The librarian may have chosen to place Bible-based literature in the fiction section. This is also incorrect as this too belongs with reference materials. There are certain novels that are supposedly based upon Bible texts (The Left Behind series comes to mind) These are not Bibles and do belong with works of fiction.

Normally it should be in a section labeled religion.

[edit] Classes

The system is made up of ten main classes or categories, each divided into ten secondary classes or subcategories, each having ten subdivisions of its own. For a more detailed list, see List of Dewey Decimal classes.

000 – Computer science, information, and general works

100 – Philosophy and psychology

200 – Religion

300 – Social sciences

400 – Language

500 – Science

600 – Technology

700 – Arts and recreation

800 – Literature

900 – History and geography

A lot of libraries have Reference as a section of books that are not allowed to be taken out of the library.

Religion section. Dewey 220

No reputable library would have a religious book in the adult fiction section.

If memory serves, the bible is cataloged as 232 in the Dewey Decimal gadget. it is a nonfiction area yet do not enable that impression you one way or yet another: folklore (fiction, for the stunning area) is 398 even as the completed 800 area is literature (i.e., quite some sorts of fiction). EDIT: To sparkling up what some above have suggested, one hundred is philosphy, 2 hundred is faith, and 900 is historic previous.

Because the Bible being all truth is subjective, meaning not everyone would agree that it is all truth. Even Christian/Jewish scholars will tell you that some of the harder to believe stories in the Bible didn't actually happen, but they were stories with a point (can't think of the correct term).

Four Libraries? And none of these "Libraries" had a Religion section? I find that hard to believe! Very hard to believe indeed!

The Bible is in 'Religion'; in the 200s of the Dewey Decimal System - which is non-fiction.

my library has a "Relgion and religious philosphy" section and it's in there.

It's actually a really good library. the religion section is HUGE and has many many text of, about, and referring to any religion you could think of.

At least it is in the library. Try finding the Buddhist sutras in your local library. I bet you can't.

Mine are here in my home. I use them daily. They don't sit on a table or shelve collecting dust, or with the other books I've already read. It's always at reach. Try it, you'll like having one around and won't have to be dependent on trying to find it in your local library.

I guess it all depends on the opinion of the librarian in charge of putting books where they belong!

It is in my public library. I don't remember where, though.

Because not everyone believes that the Bible is the truth... otherwise it would be... but the bible is the truth... :)
