Do you believe in it? I believe in God with all of my heart, I've accepted him into my heart and await my time til I see him along side my family and friends who have passed. I need prayers now more than ever friends in yahoo answers. I have something going on in my life that I need help in. I do not know how to fix it. It's too much to put up here, you know we've ALL had those situations in our life :) I wanted to know how whole heartedly people believe in the power of prayer. I think that's a great question of the day!!!

prayer is the process that we communicate to God whiles He responds to our questions thorugh the Bible. tell me a specific life experince that has not happen in the Bible.

And think abuot why they were recorded.

compare them to your life and you will notice that God is telling you the same or else what would the Bible mean for?

in other to have a relationship there must be a comunication.

although God knows what is good for us, He want us to ask. Him.

"Ask, Seek, Knock

7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" Matthew 7:7 NIV

God also warns judging His actions since our understanding is less than His see Isaiah 55: 8,9 NIV

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,"

declares the LORD.

9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God does not lie about his promises so dont think prayer doesnt work!

numbers 23:19 NIV

19 God is not a man, that he should lie,

nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.

Does he speak and then not act?

Does he promise and not fulfill?

Sometimes God doesnt listen to prayers due to our sins!

see Isaiah 59:1,2

1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save,

nor his ear too dull to hear.

2 But your iniquities have separated

you from your God;

your sins have hidden his face from you,

so that he will not hear.

3 For your hands are stained with blood,

your fingers with guilt.

Your lips have spoken lies,

and your tongue mutters wicked things.

But the happy part is that He says we should even come to Him in our sinful nature and he will accept us! see isaiah 1:18,

Come now, and let us reason together, said the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool

isnt that wonderful!!

dont be deceived then...God is good all the time and All the time God is good!

Yes I do believe in the power of prayer. It's the most beautiful thing ever. As a Catholic Christian, there's one powerful prayer devotion and that is the rosary. My mom encouraged me to do it. What I have is a rosary ring. it's easy to use. But other times I like to use a chain of the rosary. I remember one time I was hoping that I get my own apartment. At first, it didn't seem like a possibility but after praying the Novena to the sacred heart of Jesus, it turned out to be a possibility after all. The housing authority contacted me and said a apartment was available for me. So I took the offer. My brother and dad didn't think it could happen but I proved them wrong.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:7. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." But keep in mind that God does answer all prayers but sometimes the prayer takes time to be answered. And sometimes the answer is yes or no.

Some studies found a positive effect of prayer. However, these were people who believe that it would help them and knew that they were being prayed for. So placebo effects come into play.

Duke University Hospital did a double blind study of prayer. They found that being prayed for had zero effect on patient outcome.

So you praying can have a positive health effect. Exactly the same effect can be had by meditating.

Being told that you are being prayed for can have a positive health effect. Exactly the same as been given a sugar pill 'cure'.

Being prayed for, but not knowing it has zero health effect.

So, being calm and being positive can both help you overcome sickness. Pleading to a deity has zero effect.

You want something to happen, or not happen. Then spend time thinking how to achieve that yourself. Asking god has been proved to be totally pointless and a waste of time.

No, I don't accept that there is power in prayer. Prayer and non-prayer seem to be about equally effective; oftentimes the perceived power of prayer is the result of confirmation bias (remembering the hits and forgetting the misses).

Studies that have been done on it (for instance, on intercessory prayer for medical patients) have, on balance, shown no correlation in results between praying and not praying.

So the upshot is that the Deists may be right: if God is out there, he isn't answering personal requests. Or, maybe, he doesn't find them convincing, and does what he had planned in the first place. Or, maybe people are praying to the wrong god. There are lots of possibilities, but the reality of the situation is that, as far as we can tell, prayer has no efficacy.

The prayer study assumed that God is like a candy machine and you put a prayer in and good things come out. It doesn't work like that. (I doubt the sincerity of prayer in such a study session too) I don't think prayer can be submitted to a science experiment; not because it isn't effective, but because it has always been his nature to refuse people with impure motives extra special signs and miracles. (the pharisees were constantly asking for signs from Jesus).

In the words of John Stewart: "I'm not your monkey!"

He asked us to present our requests to him. He commanded us to pray. Part of it is that prayer changes us and our attitude. Secondly God can do whatever he wants, but I doubt he'd ask us to pray then do nothing.

I agree with Dee, prayer by itself is powerless. It is the One who we pray to ( The Holy Living God the Creator) who has the power. Prayer is our form of communtication our needs, desires , fears etc to Him. He is indeed POWERFUL!

Yes, I will join you in your prayers, the Lord knows you and your needs far better than I ever could. I will lift you and your unspoken burden up in prayer to Him.....

The Power of Prayer is not of the one praying, but the ONE that is prayed to!

The strength of a prayer is the Faith behind it!

May God Bless you!

the bible tells us that every prayer shall receive an answer. most of the time we do not like the answer. remember that god knows what is best for us. he knew that his son dying themost painfull death ever created by man was best. ask him to do what is best for you and submit. if you need to face this challenge for the better, you will, if not, you will not. this is the exact thing i am struggling with now. we can do it.

the three answers to a prayer that you will always receive are"no,yes, and wait" we will not always hear these words directly in our minds, but they will always happen.

GOD IS REAL AND ANSWERS PRAYER; WEATHER YOU BELIEVE GOD OR NOT IT DOES NOT CHANGE HIS PERSONALITY

God indeed answers prayers and does miracles.

Prayer and answers has to do with your faith in God.

if you believe that God answers prayers then He will answer you. But when your spirit is shaking and filled with doubts; then there might be delays to the answer.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. Prayer is positive thought. You can affect the way you view the world by framing it in a positive manner. Those who see the positive, will work to bring about the positive.

Those who see the negative will induce a self-fulfilling prophecy.

a blind study on prayer proved that those being prayed for during, before, and after heart surgery did no better then those who weren't prayed for the only difference was the other control group who DID know that they were being prayed for who did worse

Power of prayer, Power of faith, Power of God,

all valid, realities.

My own personal experience is often frustrating, but one thing for certain,God does love us and hold us dear so,

Its really, for you, a matter of faith, just lay it on the alter and rest yourself in that love.

God loves you

so do I

I will pray for you

No. It's been scientifically studied, and those studies have shown that prayer does not work.

The link is below, and if you search you will find more articles on the subject. I'll sum it up for you here.

There were three groups of patients involved. One group was not prayed for at all. One group was prayed for and were not aware they were being prayed for. The last group was prayed for and were told they were being prayed for.

In the first two groups, there was no difference. In the third group, patients did worse. The researchers suggest that this may have been because knowing they were being prayed for, the patients felt pressure to get better.
