Question:
Spiritually speaking, how much are you willing to sacrifice to have pretty things?

There is a video on the homepage of Yahoo! about a family of a CEO who went from making 750,000 dollars a year to 7.50 an hour delivering pizzas. The family has not paid their mortgage in two years, still living in the same house they always had. Their finances are so low right now that they qualify for 500 dollars a month in food stamps.

And yet, they still have their beautiful, big house. I understand that it is sentimentally valuable, but doesn't it seem the most responsible choice to downsize, and use any money they received to keep themselves afloat?

How much are you willing to sacrifice to have beautiful things? Should it EVER be worth the risk of not being able to put food on the table?

I understand an attachment to a house that is a home. Giving up my last home where I'd lived more than 1/2 my life ... was hard.

But it was a small 2 bedroom 1 bath pier and beam affair.

Still, I think I can understand why they want to keep it. It might be more about the connection they feel to their home than their addiction to creature comforts.

Then again, it might just be greed...

I've sacrificed a lot for a pretty girl. But stuff? Not that much. I live in a decent house, but I could afford a lot more (says the bank, anyway). I've got a nice enough car, but it's nothing special. I like to have enough to travel, which I want to keep doing until I'm old and grey, so I spend a little on that now, and try to save more for later. I like to go to a play or see a band perform now and then, too. I want to see beautiful places, and have memorable experiences. If my stuff isn't flashy, that's OK. When I look at my photo album, or even close my eyes and remember what the money I spent let me see, pretty things aren't so hard to do without.

I am way too practical. I really need a bigger house, but mine is paid for, so that's not happening anytime too soon. I think they should have put the house on the market when they first started having financial problems and said no to purchases with credit cards. Some people just don't think nowadays.

You are a limited thinker they are not. I agree with them. I have a big house with a lot of land. You can rent out parts of the house. You can let people use your land for gardening or parking cars. We know someone who repairs them & sells them & I asked my husband today if he needed a spot cause he has so many. I can make enough money renting out rooms to pay my bills. If you live in a small place you are trapped. I could fill my house up with products for someone who has an on-line sales business. I actually do have a work at home office. If I didn't have my office I would not have a quiet place to call my coaching clients. My husband has tools for his handyman business & maybe someone in their family needs space for a career. What if he gets a great job tomorrow & just needs to have a roomate or what if his son graduates from colledge & gets a job & starts pitching in or what if his grown son with wife & child need a place to live. There are so many reasons why I agree to keep the house.

I wouldn't sacrifice much for pretty things, they're here today and gone tomorrow. Much better to store up treasure in Heaven.

God puts food on my table, a roof over my head and clothes on my back.

No it should not be worth the risk of not having any food on the table.Pretty things are just material things and they won't always make you happy.

When I was young, I would sacrifice things to have pretty things. Such as saving my lunch money for a new dress, but as I got older, pretty things don't matter. Being humble with what you got or can afford is satisfying for me.

GOD BLESS YOU!

I tell you an even more worthy sacrifice that you have not considered...there are many who are sacrificing beautiful homes, fancy cars, nice clothing...finer food and liesure as they give money to Churches for tithes and offering...missionary work, food banks people in need....when you walk around town and see all these nice churches know for a fact that the money came only from peoples donations.

those who donated gave up a lot so that others may have a chance at eternity.

to introduce them to a Christ that was a sacrifice by God...giving up His only son to give life to you and not only you but all those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour.

...I dont know if I was a little off topic...but your theme was sacrifice...I had to tell you of a greater sacrifice.
