Question:
How can the Earth only be 6000 years old, when the Bearing Strait land bridge existed 13,000 years ago?

By studying the geology of the region, scientists know that Russia and Alaska were connected via a land bridge approximately 13,000 years ago.

It was during this period that Asians crossed over into the North American continent, and migrated south into Central and Southern America. We also know through medical science that the Central and South American natives are genetic descendants of the people who now inhabit East Asia.

If the earth is only 6000 years old, and the North and South American continents are isolated from the ancient holy lands in the Middle East, how did the inhabitants of the Americas get here?

Love the people who say that the Bible does not state that the world is 6,000 years old. Because it actually does state that very specifically. However they are religious followers, so understandably they are not the brightest.

So this is for them: You can trace back through the Bible the generations and they are specific on the ages that they lived to, etc. Hence, since you can trace everything from Jesus back to Adam and Eve, hence 7 days prior to Adam and Eve being created, God created light. So it is very easy to go with your religious book, that you follow and say is the word of God, that your religious brethren have killed/murdered/tortured/died for, to realize it states that the world is only 6,000 years old.

Very good question, but you will get the stupid answers that God can do anything, or that Satan buried the evidence to throw people off, or that God's 7 days are not exactly 7 days, even though it says so in the Bible (which is God's word and is not fallible).

The world's oldest recorded tree is a 9550 year old spruce in the Dalarna province of Sweden. Way cool, I hope they do all they can to keep it alive. I'd love to see it. (love trees, uh oh, am I a Druid?) Creationists: Well some answers have already covered what I was going to say "Heads exploding" "singing lalalalalala" and of course their fall guy Satan!! Some, possibly are thinking (gasp) and revamping their outlook. Remember only 'God' can make a tree. ;-D I had a co worker who aside from becoming totally speechless when a fellow co worker stated he was an Atheist, later moaned that it wasn't fair that many trees had longer lives than humans. I told him trees contribute far more than humans do to the well-being of the planet. Go trees!! Creationists were 'put here' for the entertainment of the rest of us. (exploding heads and all) over 1/2 million years ago. (honestly just cut them open and count their rings!)

The Bible doesn't say that the earth was created 6,000 years ago. The earth has been around for millions of years. Humans have not inhabited the earth for as long as it's existed. Whoever taught you that the Bible says that the earth and the universe was created at the same time that humans were was definitely misinformed!!! Simple science can proove that. That doesn't make the Bible wrong...it is just another example of human error, that's all.

Your missing the point..

well let me ask this.. how do the scientists know that there was a land bridge that is 13,000 years old? what are they using as a gage to quantify the age?

and the Bible never quotes an age to the earth.. if you add up all the years in the old testament when it goes threw this guy begot this guy and he lived to be 100 years etc etc.. then from Christ to present is 2007 years you get around 10k years... but this is very loosly based on the Bible not anything that it actually says on the subject

It's mankind that has been around for that long, we are new on the scene. We have adapted so well we are reproducing ourselves right off the planet.

"Ancient rocks exceeding 3.5 billion years in age are found on all of Earth's continents. The oldest rocks on Earth found so far are the Acasta Gneisses in northwestern Canada near Great Slave Lake (4.03 Ga) and the Isua Supracrustal rocks in West Greenland (3.7 to 3.8 Ga), but well-studied rocks nearly as old are also found in the Minnesota River Valley and northern Michigan (3.5-3.7 billion years), in Swaziland (3.4-3.5 billion years), and in Western Australia (3.4-3.6 billion years)."

The earth isn't 6000 years old and the bible never makes that claim. only poor scholars. matter of factly the bible says the earth is aeons old...or epochs of time, earth ages...or very old....

i'm guessing there are some people who say the bible says the sky is pink and lots of morons would follow right in line like the morons above me. someone repeats the lies long enough and braindead yutzes believe it!

It can't be; it has to be older and I do believe it is. It's not like the mastodon bones found in New Mexico in the in the early part of the 20th century were planted; the cowboy that found them had no idea what they were until he sent them to someone at a Colorado University.

Who told you the Bering strait land mass was 13,000 yrs old? Was it not the Evolutionary geologists...who are trained to belive the same thing...Duh?

Think about it...

Who said it was 6,000 years old? Only fundies believe anything as ridiculous as that. I'm a Catholic. We don't believe that, neither do most protestants. Just the loonie fringe.

who said it was 6000? The bible...........hmmmm I don't think there is a time frame for Genesis 1:1.

Furthermore any good study bible will clarify that the word Day is used in 4 different contexts through the bible ( in the English translation from Greek ). Even the KJV study bibles from 40 years ago are clear on this

The earth is 6,000 years old. All evidence to the contrary has been planted by Satan in order to turn people away from God.

(or that's at least what some Christians will have you believe...)

edit: For the dum-dums here, the 6,000 figure is a Christian calculation. http://www.albatrus.org/english/theology/creation/biblical_age_earth.htm

The earth is at least 10,000 years old.

Not sure where the 6000 yr old earth started.

I believe in creation.

Because the Bible says it's only 6,000 years old. Isn't the Bible always true? It says it is. Shouldn't that convince you?
