Question:
Why is cherry-picking the Bible allowed?

I see so many Christians quoting the Bible to say that being gay is wrong. For the sake of argument, I will grant that Leviticus says it's an "abomination." However, here are other things that are called "abominations" in Exodus - Deuteronomy
* eating seafood (Leviticus 11:10)
* having pet fish (Deuteronomy 7:26)
* reading your horiscope (Deuteronomy 18:10)
* women wearing men's clothes (Deuteronomy 22:5)

If none of those things are condemned, why is homosexuality treated so negatively?

I don't cherry-pick. I don't eat seafood, frankly I think it smells. I do not own a fish--boring creatures. I don't read my horoscope and see little point. There are millions of people who share my birthday, there's no way those little daily blurbs could be intended for all of us. I don't wear men's clothes.

To answer the last part of your question first, homosexuality was and is treated so negatively is because it was running rampant and corrupting whole cities and societies of that time, much as it is now. Eating certain foods and wearing certain cloths no longer apply but it's obvious other sins still do and one of them is homosexuality. You quoted all OT verses but you evidently either aren't aware of the fact that homosexuality is condemned in the NT as well or you don't want to see it. Read the following verses as they pertain to homosexuality and other sins that are condemned.

Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Timothy 1:8-11.

Bottom line, sin is sin and the results will be the same for any unbeliever who dies in those sins.

It isn't allowed.

The Christ said it isn't what goes into the mouth that is evil but what comes out of your mouth is what is evil.

In Deuteronomy 7:26, it's talking about graven images as an abomination in your house it is to be detested, it is to be abhorred it is not to be in your house.

I agree with you on reading the damnable horoscope I haven't done that in twenty years and I think it sucks that it would be acceptable. But All my Christian friends I know of do not read that superstitions so I cannot speak for those who act Christian like and are not.

Yeah women wearing mens clothes. Wouldn't it be nice if they wore women's clothes but what makes you think we are picking a cherry on that one. For decades now the style the women have chosen for casual wear is jeans with zippers in the front. How they work that in the washroom is up to them.

Homosexuality is treated negatively because it is wrong. Lying is also treated negatively as well. So is stealing and adultery! Do you see a coalition of liars forcing the laws of the land to bend to their wishes? Or the thieves demanding church sanctions for their lifestyle? Or the adulterers demanding equal rights as the single men and women.

The homosexual community have been slowly eroding the moral standard of this for some decades now and it isn't a matter of cherry picking here. It's a matter of answering the homosexuals. They want to be able to live their lifestyles without condemnation and acceptance in the church. Well ... maybe some fool in the Anglican church will accomodate them but not in the church of Christ.

They are forcing the hands of the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Islamic people to do as they bid regardless of our faith.

We treat thieves, liars, cheaters the same way the difference is that the homosexuals have banded together and organized regular screamfests about their pride. We answer that's all. It's only considered negative because they don't like the answer!

Man chose to love himself and would do anything to keep that love to himself- which what we all know as self -esteem, ego, pride and selfishness. It was because of selfishness that man chose to disobey what was given as instructions to have what we should have the best of life in paradise - love, peace, humility, harmony and joy.

Whatever instructions given whether they are abominations or not, still they are instructions for life and to live in those instructions will result to what we can say heaven here on earth. If we do not follow the instructions then we will be in trouble.

Let us make it plain and simple - you bought an appliance and surely it has a manual that would instruct you how to use it safely and sometimes assembling an instrument will also require a manual. Without reading the manual, using the appliance or instrument on your own knowledge, it may do well for a time but in the long run it will cause problems, why? because the manual was not read or instructions not followed.

Another illustration is the traffic rules, ir we do not follow traffic rules and do our own thing on the road, then expect danger...same goes with how we deal with our lives...the Bible is an instructions manual of how to live our lives well, if we continue to disregard and disobey those instructions...then our lives will always end up a mess.

So it is still up to you...follow instructions or not? Your call.

Because the clergy has never told the truth about the garden of Eden story. Adam and Eve got banished from God's sight when they became "as gods," and therefore presumptuous enough to think they could write the laws defining good and evil. That was and is God's job. Sorry, only one god to a garden, so to speak. The result is mankind telling mankind what is good and evil, instead of God.

The scriptures you refer to are the laws of Moses. You will find said laws called the ministration of death and condemnation, and see they were for the glory of Moses, not God, in 2 Corinthians third chapter. How's that for cherry-picking?

Actually, cherry-picking will even reveal a great deal of common sense if the Bible is read as if we weren't brainwashed by the clergy.

Examples:If there is no law, there is no sin (Romans 4:15, and others); ALL rule, power and authority are God's enemies (ICor 15:24-25); which means if you cherry-pick you can absolutely prove the Bible intended man to be free of false gods telling him what to do. Go ahead and cherry-pick, all the hypocrites do.

Study the second and third chapters of Genesis. You can prove that the only thing mankind can do to lose his connection with God is to play god and impose his will on others. The Bible is supposed to promote our following the will of God (big G) and not some smart mouthed fool who is trying to play god (little god).

So, cherry-pick and have fun because anyone trying to condemn you with his knowledge of good and evil is doing so with the approval of satan and not God.

Now, I've never read anything about pet fish, but I did read over it because you sound a little confused. God said after Adam and Eve messed up that man was over woman, and they both rule over every animal, and the animals will be food. So, it's weird that he would turn around and say something like that. I want to keep in touch with you, because I need more time to research that, so I can find the right words to explain it to you. But remember the old testament was the old convenant, and after Jesus died there became a new one. But the pet fish thing hmmm??? no no. I really want to get back to you. Horiscope I heard about it, but I never really read on it because I just live my life and I don't read things like that for inspiration, the bible is my inspiration. You always find something knew every time you read. I'm telling you the truth.

Anyways, homosexuality is treated so wrong because it's a sin that can seriously break your relationship with God. That's the truth. Such as the Love of money being a sin, only because loving money can lead to murdering, stealing, family issues, and other things. People that may go against the word and steal or something can repent and move on without a harder struggle. It's so hard to explain because I agree that sin is sin, so don't down the homosexuality. But the thing is a thief may steal and continue to have that relationship with God, while most homosexuals tend to find ways to twist the words of the bible so that it can make them sound like they aren't sinning, or they say "God accepts me." But does he really? I don't want to sound like I'm judging, I'm just trying to speak truth. Does God really accept someone that doesn't follow his word. A thief doesn't, but most likely a thief will stop and turn away, and a homosexual will continue in his/her path poisoning the world. Um, it's so hard to explain with typing.

Homosexuals do just what you did. You listed all these bible verses and then said, why is homosexuality treated negatively? Other sinners do too, but gay people a lot more often. I know because I have many gay friends. They struggle to find that concrete reason why they are correct.

My reason for treating it differently is the affect it is having on America today. Originally, I wouldn've had my feelings of NO HOMOS! so strongly, but because gays are trying to get married, and my future children will have to grow up in a society that will have to accept this, and they may be confused. Why should I let this continue? It's wrong. It's so obvious God created man for woman, but people do what they want. I can't go to hell for a homosexual so I don't stress over it, but my heart cries just knowing their fate. Well, I don't want to say I know, but if you're not truly sorry and trying to be straight...well...I'll move on. The reproductive organs is a common argument against homosexuality. But we don't have thieves and murders running around for their freedom to steal and kill. So, why should we let this one sin help the destruction of the world. And it's not going to stop. Read Revelation, the word said the world is going to get worse. I'm ready for it. I can't stop gay marriage, and it won't stop. But that's a reason from one Christians point of view.

The bible teaches all have sinned and that the wages of sin is demise. So if God as a righteous decide invokes the demise penalty against sinners this is an execution no longer a homicide. homicide is the unjust taking of an harmless existence. The Egyptians had no covenant with God and have been at that ingredient enemies of God's human beings and due to that enemies of God. it incredibly is by way of the fact they chosen to make themselves God's enemies that they delivered judgement upon themselves. And so some distance as figuring out on technological understanding aside I incredibly have observed that many atheists prefer to ignore whilst atheist scientists criticize diverse factors of evolution such because of the fact the topics raised by employing paleontolgists. Edit: I made no point out of race. It replaced into approximately covenant. It replaced into approximately honouring an contract with a guy and his family contributors. It did no longer remember what race that would have been besides the undeniable fact that it did happen to be with the Jewish human beings. i think of it sort of feels to artwork on your interest of rejecting God to portray him as a racist. the sorrowful actuality of existence is our alternatives impact different human beings. occasion if my dad is a heavy smoker and that i as a toddler get lung maximum cancers from his 2d hand smoke it incredibly is by way of the fact his movements affected me. it may look unfair besides the undeniable fact that this is a actuality. Our movements do no longer in basic terms impact ourselves they impact others for stable or undesirable. Edit: in case you have been conscious of the bible God did no longer make a covenant consistent with race. He based is on a persons' faith in him and the covenenat he made with that individual and his family contributors. The others coukd have depended on God yet did no longer. So it had no longer something to do with race. That as I incredibly have pronounced is the image you are attempting to apply to color this thought in a unfavorable mild. Nowhere interior the bible does God remark on epidermis shade as being a stable or undesirable factor. So lower back as I propose the racist connotation is an imaginary concoction.

No mistake those things were also condemned. Who says they were not? The difference is this Jesus in the new testament full filled the laws. He said nothing that goes inside the person makes him/her unclean only things that comes out meaning its your heart that makes you impure ( wearing mens clothes). Jesus ate fish he even fed 5000 fish and bread. Reading your horoscope . why would we read horoscopes while God is the one who knows our future. God hates idolatry ( worship other things/human instead of him) horoscopes is worshiping of stars believing that they carry your future.

Leviticus is interesting because all of the actions it condemns seem to be based around preventing the spread of disease.

But, since eating seafood (I thought that Leviticus mentioned shellfish rather than all seafood) is so bad, perhaps christians would support a constitutional amendment that banned all uses of it?

Regardless, the reason that homosexuality is condemned is that christians fear it. In fact, my experience has been that homophobes are afraid of something that they see in themselves.

Oh, but it's alright for people like you to cherry pick isn't it?

Otherwise you would remember that Jesus Himself said you cannot put new wine into old wine skins.

You cannot live by the old covenant, and live by the new covenant at the same time.

You cannot expect to live by all the old rules and expect God to be more pleased with you than someone who doesn't follow one law of the Old Testament.

What a Bisexual person like me does is defend the Gospel. I am wrong- a sinner, but the righteousness of Jesus is placed upon me because I trust God. God counts that trust as righteousness. So those who are going after Gays or GLBTs are themselves a sinner as well, and their righteousness tends to be what they are dependent upon, and God does not see that as righteousness.

Learn God's word better and you can defend to Gospel. Don't try to defend yourself, there is no defense of us, but the Gospel is defensible.

"Cherry-picking" is a term used to lie about Christians. It is meant to confuse people and decieve them into thinking that Christians pick and chose what to believe.

The fact is there is a reason why some parts of the Bible are not applicable to Christians.

The New Covenatnt was prophesied in the Old Covenant times. Jesus brought in the New Covenant. The church has never been under the old one.

Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Jer 31:31-34 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant ... this shall be the covenant that I will make ...I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.... And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Under the New Covenant we recieve the Spirit as the prophet Joel also prophesied would happen in th New Covenant. (Joel 2:27-32)

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The ceremonial law was not carried over into the New Covenant. Ceremonial law was a shadow pointing towards the coming of Christ. Christ, the reality of the shadow, has come.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Col 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

Col 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

1) The ceremonial law pointed to Christ and is fulfilled in him.

2) Jesus perfectly obeyed the Law.

3) Jesus paid our penalty for breaking the Law.

The Law could not give us the strength to live right but the Spirit that we receive in the New Covenant can.

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The moral law as you see is still in effect. The requirements of the moral law are righteous.
