The above answers are incorrect and do not reflect the true relationships between Christian men and women. The bible clearly treats women as inferior (and subsuquently any Christian men that do not treat women inferior to themselves are not good Christians) :
1 Corinthians, 14:34-35: "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."
Genesis 3:16: "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."
Leviticus 19:20: "And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free."
Exodus 21:7-8: And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her."
So as you can see above, according to the bible, women are inferior, they are for sale, and men can rape women if the woman is a slave. Not exactly a glowing recipe for gender equality.
The truth of the matter is that Christians pick and choose what to believe and what not to believe from the bible depending on the political climate of the time. There is no such thing as a Christian that follows the whole of the bible, and therefore there is no such thing as a real Christian.
*EDIT - The claims below regarding Christ showing equality to people is simply not true. Why dont people educate themselves on the things they claim to believe?
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ." (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them." (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
"The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." [Jesus] (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)
