Question:
The war is coming. Which side will you be on?

Hello, my name is Phil

I think its fairly clear which way things are shaping up.

With all the Jihads against the west and the President of Iran calling on other Islamic states to anihalate Israel (along with other Jewish nations), its pretty obvious.

In the theoretical war, which side will you be on?

The Christ-Judism alliance versus the Middle east religions, particularly Islam.

I think the catalyst will be the President of Iran's statement:

"The holocaust is the biggest lie of the 20th century!!!"

This is just a theoretical thing, so don't get TOO passionate about it.

Oh, and which side would atheists be under? Not really their own side... But I think they would go with the CJ's.

Bush named the Axis of evil Iran, Iraq and North Korea.

I would just like to point out that this country has been in an almost constant state of war with someone or other for a thousand years at least. Wars are about economics, religious and humanitarian reasons are normally just an excuse.

The fact is, the Arab world is not a huge united entity out to destroy western civilization. Look into its history; it's a series of tribal conflicts occassionally masked as religious conflicts.

But let's suppose you're right. Let me fix the sides for you:

"Western secular countries that support Israel (at least, in token) that went through the Age of Enlightenment"

vs.

"Extremist individuals of the Middle East living in nations that have been characterized by sectarian conflict for the past 6,000 years, except when united either by mystics, or by strong men."

This won't be a world war. This will, at most, be a large and costly regional conflict, and many Middle East states will end up opposed to their most outspoken leaders (who the heck in the Middle East is actually allied with Iran?). They'll help the west. It's much more profitable to have them as military allies and trading partners than to fight an hopeless battle against a strong united front. That's exactly what's happened, and what has been happening.

So, you can't really hold the position of an impending conflict in the Middle East between Islam and the other Abrahamic faiths, and be consistent with the geopolitics at play out in the real world. Believe what you wish, but I wouldn't hold your breath in anticipation of military alliance between the states of the Middle East.

EDIT:

Yes, Bush did name an Axis of Evil in one his State of the Union addresses (2002, I think). He explicitly labeled the members as Iraq (which we had not yet attacked), Iran, and North Korea.

Wouldn't it be safe to say that all Christians and Jews would side with themselves? As would Muslims?

Even so, if I was none of the above I would still side with the Christians and Jews simply because I do not believe in the violent tactics the muslims are using to do what they do.

I understand that Islam SUPPOSEDLY doesn't condone violence and I also understand that many muslims are peaceful people. It's just so sad that so many muslims are violent and ruin it for the rest of them.

*sigh* Intolerant monotheism will be the death of us all if we don't wake up.

Here's a simple-yet-positive action people can take to build momentum towards acceptance and peace rather than rattle sabers:

Help make June "National Spiritual Diversity Month." (see link below)

There will always be extremists. What matters is that reasonable, sane people of all faiths unite in common cause: a world we can all live in together.

What other Jewish nations? On the count of Jewish countries in the world, there's Israel, Israel and, err, Israel.

Middle Eastern presidents say shite like that all the time. It keeps their army happy, their people happy, and their own heads attached to their shoulders.

And in a theoretical war, I'll be firmly on my own side. You religious fruitloops can fight to annihilate the world if you want. Just don't expect any thanks for it from me.

I will side with neither, since I am an atheist. However, I will be there to pick up the pieces, and I will do my best to spread the word of tolerance of all beliefs and plead for a nonviolent approach to settling all future grievances. Until then, I will hope that both sides can reach an accord and realize the futility of such hostility.

During the Civil war, President Lincoln was once asked if God was on his side. His reply was, "It is not if God is on my side, but am I on God's side?" This important concept should be of more relevance than speculating on future events in the next decade. One should consider as to the way of becoming on God's side, what does it mean in light of current events, and how does my being on God's side affect me? These are the important questions.

You have to laugh at some of those pathetic peaceniks or islam apologists on here..truth be told they'd be given very short shrift if they found themselves in any arab countries at the moment..and do they think that they would survive under a fundamentalist Islamic regime were it to secure a foothold in their country? I have no great confidence or admiration for Bush, Blair or their successors..they may be mad dogs..but at least they bark for us!

No body is going to destroy Israel. Future generations of Israel will themselves correct their political system, so that they can live in peace with original residents of Israel. All Jihadis supported West to win Afghan war. You will see great change in near future as it has proved that nobody wins a War. You should deeply study the issues before asking question.
2007-06-06 19:24:03 UTC
It is naive and childish to think you can avert this conflict by hugging and singing campfire songs. The clash between the Islamic states and the West will be the defining conflict of the next century, and its very important to realize that now rather than later.

I doubt it will divide on purely religious lines, such cataclysmic events rarely do.

If it happens it wont matter as nuclear weapons will wipe us all out.

So cheer up live positively and pray you are under a direct hit.

I'm going to be on whatever side England is. I'll treat it like I do the football; want to be playing it myself, but watching it all with no danger of gettin hurt and a beer in my hand just keeps me sat there, watching.

I will be on the side that does not agree with war and that does not agree with Bush and Blair and their "war on terror" or should it in fact be "war of terror" - killing all those millions of innocent civillians and not just in Iraq and Afghanistan, its been going on for years all over the place.

Just to follow up in respose to edit of question asker: You cannot blame the possibility of war on Islamist extremists considering the way the western world and particularly America, in recent times, have behaved. Us westerners have a lot to answer for.

And China, I am sure, will be waiting on the sidelines to step in when all is over!
