You are correct The 7th day(Saturday) Sabbath is still in effect.

There is a lot of confusion about the Sabbath, I hope that this answer will help to clear things up. Christians must govern there lives according to the Bible, and the Bible supports the observance of the Sabbath(see bottom for list of ministers from various faiths confirming the Sabbath). NOT as a means of salvation (Romans 4), but out of Love (John 14:15). It is the ONLY command that starts with the word "REMEMBER" yet the only one people want to forget.

1)"Duh, but we celebrate our sabbath on Sunday. Does it really matter?"

Celebrating the Sabbath on Sunday is like celbrating New Years on February 4th. The day does matter God did not say pick a day as the Sabbath He said THE 7th day is the Sabbath.

2)"If you want the Sabbath day to correspond to scripture, then it would be on Sunday"

Ask any Jew and they will tell you the Sabbath is Saturday they have been keeping it for thousands of years. It is highly unlikely the entire Jewish community forgot the Holy Day

3)"Acts 20:7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread."

In Acts chapter 2 it says they broke bread everyday, does that mean the Sabbath day is everyday? The truth is breaking bread means they ate.

There is NO SCRIPTURAL EVIDENCE that Christ followers changed the Holy day to Sunday. They worshiped on the Sabbath(Saturday) - Acts 13:14, Acts 13:42, Acts 13:44, Acts 16:13, Acts 17:2, Acts 18:4.

Including the Gentiles - Acts 13:42, Acts 17:1-4, Acts 18

4)"Because Jesus rose on Sunday"

The truth about SUNday worship is that it DID NOT start during Biblical times, there is no verse to support sunday worship, SUNday worshiped started in the 300s. The Emperor Constantine worshiped the sun god on SUNday and after his "conversion" he mixed pagan rituals with Christianity.

“The earliest recognition of the observance of Sunday, is a constitution of Constantine in 321 A.D.” Encyclopedia Brittanica

People say Sabbath keepers are "hung up" on this point. I have a question, if a large group of Christians were saying it's ok to worship other gods or commit adultery or it's ok to worship idols would you speak out? Sin is the transgression of the law. Sin is the reason Jesus died. For a Christian to say it doesn't matter is reckless and irresponsible.

This is a VERY IMPORTANT subject I know it is a little long, but PLEASE read it

A challenge, where in the Bible does it call Sunday the New Sabbath, or where are we commanded to worship on Sunday?

search the scriptures you will not find it

Was the Sabbath created by God on Mt. Sinai?

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Genesis 2:2,3

The Sabbath was part of creation week

What does the Bible say about the Sabbath?

“ Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11

But we don’t really know which day is the seventh?

It is highly unlikely that the entire Jewish community forgot which day was their Holy day.

Which day is the seventh day?

Saturday : the seventh day of the week

-Webster’s Dictionary

Are there other examples of God emphasizing the Sabbath?

He said to them, "This is what the LORD commanded: 'Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Exodus 16:23

And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? See, for that the LORD hath given you the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. So the people rested on the seventh day. Exodus 16:28-30

Both of these examples are before Mt. Sinai and the 10 commandments.

Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Exodus 30:13

I am a Christian and I want to follow Christ. Did Jesus keep the Sabbath?

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. Luke 4:16

Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" Matthew 12:9,10

They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. Mark 1:21

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. Mark 6:2

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. Luke 4:16

Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath began to teach the people. Luke 4:31

On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues Luke 13:10

But isn’t Sunday the Lord’s day?

Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. Exodus 20:8

If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Isa 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Isa 58:13,14

For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. Matthew 28:8

So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. Mark 1:21

Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Luke 6:5

Did Jesus expect his followers to keep the Sabbath after he ascended into heaven?

Jesus speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D.

Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. Matthew 24:20

Did the apostles keep the Sabbath?

Acts 13:14

Acts 13:42

Acts 13:44

Acts 16:13

Acts 17:2

Acts 18:4

But what about I Corinthians 16:2 “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.”?

This verse says nothing about worship. What it is talking about is collecting money to distribute in Jerusalem (vs. 3)

If we look at Acts 18 Paul went to Corinth to build the Church

Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

Acts 18:11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

That is 72 Sabbaths.

But I thought the Gentiles went to Church on Sunday?

Acts 13:42

Acts 17:1-4

Acts 18

Doesn’t Roman’s say we can worship any day?

Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

If you look ate the book of Zechariah you see what Paul was talking about

Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying, Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? Zechariah 7:4,5

Paul is talking about observing days of Fasts

Let’s think about this is Paul telling people to violate the commandments if Paul had said Rom 14:6 He that kills, kills unto the Lord; and he that kills not, to the Lord he doth not kills.

People would say "That’s crazy you can’t commit murder that’s a moral law, Paul must mean something else." Many people justify breaking the Sabbath because they view all the other laws as more important, and the Sabbath as a minor law. They use this philosophy to justify outright rebellion against God and his law

But aren’t we under Grace now?

“What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law but grace? God forbid” Romans 6:15

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Romans7:7

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Romans 3:31

Is there anywhere in The Bible that says to keep Sunday Holy?

No, The scripture can not be found.

Are we saved by the Law?

NO!! Absolutely NOT!!

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8,9

“What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law but grace? God forbid” Romans 6:15

Will we keep the Sabbath in Heaven?

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

Did the calendar change effect the weekly cycle?

No

Thursday, October 4, 1582 was followed by Friday October 15

Did the calendar change? Yes. Did the weekly Cycle change? NO!

Who changed the Sabbath to Sunday

“The earliest recognition of the observance of Sunday, is a constitution of Constantine in 321 A.D.” Encyclopedia Brittanica

Emperor Constantine worshiped the sun god Sol invictis (the undefeated sun) on Sunday and decided to mix pagan worship with Christianity, the question is since when did Pagan monarchs decide Bible truth?

The only commandment that people want to do away with is the only one that starts with Remember.

Is it a burden to keep Sabbath Holy?

No, it is however a burden to MAKE Sunday, which is no where in the Bible called the Sabbath, Holy.

No where in the Bible did Jesus or the Disciples instruct anyone to keep Sunday Holy.

If God created it perfect in the Garden of Eden, Moses and the Israelites kept it, If God commanded us to keep it, God says to take joy in the Sabbath, He is upset when we don’t keep it, Jesus kept it, the disciples kept and taught others to keep it, and we are going to keep it in Heaven shouldn’t we start keeping it here on Earth?

What do ministers of the different Faiths say?

Presbyterian:

“Until, therefore, it can be shown that the whole moral law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand… The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath” - T.C. Blake D.D. Theology Condensed

Catholic:

“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day we never sanctify.” - James Cardinal Gibbons

Catholic:

“Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did happened in the first century(actually 200yrs later). The holy day, the Sabbath , was changed from Saturday to Sunday… not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power… People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority should logically become Seventh Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.” –Saint Catherine Catholic Church Sentinel, May 21. 1995

Baptists:

“There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday. … It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week… Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament- absolutely not. There is no scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh to the first day of the week.”- Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, Baptist Manual

Pentecostal:

“Why do we worship on Sunday? Doesn’t the Bible teach us that Saturday should be the Lord’s Day?... Apparently we will have to seek the answer from some other source than the New Testament.” David A Womack, “Is Sunday the Lord’s Day?”

Lutheran:

“The observance of the Lord’s day [Sunday] is founded not on any command of God, but on the authority of the church.” – Augsburg Confession of Faith,

Why do people think it's Saturday for that matter. The Sabbath is somewhat arbitrarily assigned - I looked it up just to be sure and indeed to Jews and a very small number of Christians the Sabbath is Saturday but for most Christians (the lagest religious group in the world) it is Sunday. The whole "first day of the week"/"last day of the week" designation is as arbitrary as deciding the Sabbath falls on Saturday or Sunday. Why worry about it? If you believe the Sabbath is Saturday, observe it then. If you believe it's Sunday, observe it then. Don't make it one more thing to fight over. That's not what religion is supposed to be about, contrary to what some radical Muslim fundamentalists seem to believe.

Why do christians choose to ignore the truth? Okay, I grew up presbyterian, but guess what people, I read the bible for myself, did some research, and Sunday is not the sabbath. Nope, Constantine (300 years after the crucifiction) changed it to Sunday, (without God's approval), in order to make it easier for pagans to convert. The disciples honored the sabbath the same day Jesus did, Friday sundown until Saturday sundown. It's not multiple choice, it wasn't because Christ rose on Sunday, it wasn't done by the disciples, and it's not "any day we choose". The commandment says "honor the sabbath and keep it holy", not "change it to Sunday if its more convenient", nor "you can pick any day you want", the sabbath has never changed, only our own decisions as to whether to honor it or not has changed. We aren't under Levitican law if we're not Jews, but we are all under the 10 Commandments. If you choose not to honor the day as He commanded, you can explain it to Him at judgment, all I can do is tell you the truth. It's not my rule, it's His, and He's kinda particular about certain commandments.

The Church (Jesus the Christ's people) gathered in the "upper room" and were baptized with the Holy Spirit fifty days after RESURRECTION SUNDAY.

Acts 20:7 tells us "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the next day, and continued his speech until midnight.

In Corinthians 16:1, and 2 Paul tells us "Now concerning the collection of the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even to do ye.

Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gathering when I come…"

Indeed ACTS does record Paul going in to the Synagogue to teach - simply because that is where they assembled. That fact has nothing to do with directing "The Faithful" to gather.

Paul said in I Corinthians 19;20 "And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law." Paul now a Christian WAS NOT under the law!

Acts 18:4 - 7 also mentions the Sabbath - as a place of evangelizing the Jews.

These two verses are the last mention of the Sabbath in the book of Acts.

Backing up a bit in The Bible I would like to point out another "telling" verse.

Acts 15:10 "Now, therefore, why put GOD to the test, to put a yoke (d) upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?"

THE SABBATH HAS NEVER BEEN CHANGED. IT IS STILL FOR THE JEWS.

SUNDAY IS NOT THE CHRISTIAN SABBATH - THERE IS NO SUCH THING.

WE, TRUE CHRISTIANS WORSHIP ON SUNDAY - THE LORD'S DAY!

The first Christians were Jews. They went to temple or synagogue on the Sabbath (Saturday) with fellow Jews

Then they gathered on the first day of the week, the day on which Jesus rose from the dead (Sunday), with fellow Christians to tell stories of Jesus and share Eucharist.

Later Gentiles joined Christianity. The Apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, decided that the Gentiles did not have to covert to Judaism. Therefore, they only attended on Sundays and did not have to abide by Jewish dietary laws.

Christians believe that Jesus' Resurrection has changed the Lord's Day to Sunday.

This has been the practice ever since.

With love in Christ.

This was a misunderstanding that seems to have entered Christianity very early. The Jewish Sabbath was and still is on Saturday. The early Church either misinterpreted certain passages in scripture to mean the day should be changed to Sunday or simply felt a need to distinguish Christians from Jews and changed it anyway, then looked for verses in the texts that could be twisted to justify their decision.

Still, it matters little which day we choose. Paul wrote that we should make up our own minds. "Some," he said, "esteem the day. Others esteem every day alike. Let each be fully persuaded in his own mind."

I tend to regard every day as a Sabbath, especially now that I'm retired.

I hope this is helpful.

I'm not an expert. But I thought the Lord rested on the 7th day.

It sounds to me that people put Sunday in the wrong place. It should be the 7th day.

Another question. Was Christ born in December?

Because I thought that happens because a pat leader decided to celebrate Christ's b-day in December for some reason...

LOL I think I'll ask this question.

Early christians celebrated Sunday because it's the day Jesus raised from the dead. It doesn't have anything to do with the Sabbath

Acts 20:7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread.

This was happening from the beginning. The idea that this started with Constantine is incorrect.

The Sabbath is the day of rest after six days of work. If you want the Sabbath day to correspond to scripture, then it would be on Sunday. Many fiscal calendars start the week with Monday because Monday is the first day of work.

THANK YOU!

Not many Christians know that the reason Christians celebrate on Sunday is because Constantine decided to prove his power over the church and demanded that the day of worship be changed.

"'And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men*--the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.' He said to them, 'All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.'" (Mark 7:7 - 8 NKJV)

It is interesting because God did command a particular day and did not allow people to keep any day they wanted. While in the wilderness after fleeing Egypt, the Hebrews were sent manna from Heaven. This manna fell six days a week but did not fall on the Sabbath. God knew what day the Sabbath was, the Hebrews knew it, and the Jewish people of today still know it. They keep the same day today that their ancestors did when God sent the manna.

"On the sixth day the people gathered twice as much food -- four quarts for every person. When all the leaders of the community came and told this to Moses, he said to them, "This is what the Lord commanded, because tomorrow is the Sabbath, the Lord's holy day of rest. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil today. Save the rest of the food until tomorrow morning." So the people saved it until the next morning, as Moses had commanded, and none of it began to stink or have worms in it. Moses told the people, "Eat the food you gathered yesterday. Today is a Sabbath, the Lord's day of rest; you will not find any out in the field today. You should gather the food for six days, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day. On that day there will not be any food on the ground." On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather food, but they couldn't find any. Then the Lord said to Moses, "How long will you people refuse to obey my commands and teachings? Look, the Lord has made the Sabbath a day of rest for you. So on the sixth day he will give you enough food for two days, but on the seventh day each of you must stay where you are. Do not go anywhere." So the people rested on the seventh day. The people of Israel called the food manna. It was like small white seeds and tasted like wafers made with honey." (Exodus 16:22 - 31 NCV)

You can search the New Testament, and even the entire Bible for that matter, and you will not find one place that the Sabbath law has been revoked. What you will find is that the apostles and early church did keep the Sabbath, and Jesus expected His followers to be keeping the Sabbath some 60 years after His death.

"At that time, how terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or have nursing babies! Pray that it will not be winter or a Sabbath day when these things happen and you have to run away, because at that time there will be much trouble. There will be more trouble than there has ever been since the beginning of the world until now, and nothing as bad will ever happen again." (Matthew 24:19 - 21 NCV)

"They continued their trip from Perga and went to Antioch, a city in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down." (Acts 13:14 NCV)

"While Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people asked them to tell them more about these things on the next Sabbath." (Acts 13:42 NCV)

"On the next Sabbath day, almost everyone in the city came to hear the word of the Lord." (Acts 13:44 NCV)

"On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate to the river where we thought we would find a special place for prayer. Some women had gathered there, so we sat down and talked with them." (Acts 16:13 NCV) (This is most interesting because Paul kept the Sabbath even when there was not a group of Jews to keep it with or a church to keep it in. He was in Philippi, and there were very few Jews there)

"Paul went into the synagogue as he always did, and on each Sabbath day for three weeks, he talked with the Jews about the Scriptures." (Acts 17:2 NCV)

"Every Sabbath day he talked with the Jews and Greeks in the synagogue, trying to persuade them to believe in Jesus." (Acts 18:4 NCV)

Check the Ten Commandments; they tell us the reason we should keep the Sabbath.

"The reason is that in six days the Lord made everything -- the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them. On the seventh day he rested. So the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." (Exodus 20:11)

That reason still stands today. The Sabbath has nothing to do with the nation of Israel but everything to do with creation. God did not command the Sabbath because he wanted the Israelites to be different; He commanded it because He created it in the first week. God tries to give us a gift, and we say that it is a burden and we do not want it.

As for the Lord's Day, It is interesting to see what the Bible says about the Lord's day.

"Eat the food you gathered yesterday. Today is a Sabbath, the Lord's day of rest;" (Exodus 16:23 NCV)

"This is what the Lord commanded, because tomorrow is the Sabbath, the Lord's holy day of rest." (Exodus 16:25 NCV)

"but the seventh day is a day of rest to honor the Lord your God." (Exodus 20:10 NCV)

"So the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day" (Matthew 12:8 NCV)

"So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." (Mark 2:28 NCV)

"Then Jesus said to the Pharisees, 'The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day.'" (Luke 6:6 NCV)

Because Christians are expert at picking and choosing which parts of the bible to follow, at rationalizing what they have been told even when it's clearly wrong, and because they can find different versions of the bible to support what they want to say.

And finally, because the mixing with Paganisim was necessary for the early church to survive and grow, and the first Protestants didn't want to rock the boat THAT much.

The Bible doesn't say the sabbath is on saturday. It says to rest on the sabbath and keep it holy.

The reason, I think, has something to do with the Romans.
anonymous
2006-08-18 08:46:57 UTC
If I remember correctly, the Romans created that, because their calendar wouldn't work properly otherwise. They needed to create a calendar that honored all the different Ceasars, and the math got complicated, so they changed the week from eight to seven days, or something like that. I'll see if I can find the story somewhere.

Edit - here's a link that covers the Roman tomfoolery.

"Sabbath" is a somewhat generic term for a day of rest- like a holiday. Jews celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday because it was the seventh day of the calendar week, the day on which the book of Genesis says God rested and commanded us to do as well.

Christians have taken the tradition of celebrating their "day of rest" on Sunday instead, in honor of the day of Christ's resurrection.

I don't think it really matters WHICH day of the week you honor and give back to God, as long as you pick at least one of them. :)

The sabbath has been celebrated on Sunday since the early days of the church, by the authority which Christ gave to his church.

Some today insist that Christians must keep the Sabbath day, that those who worship on the first day of the week (Sunday) are in great error. They reason that "Sun-day" comes from the pagan worship of the Sun god, that Jesus and Paul kept the Sabbath day as an example for us to follow, and that the Roman Catholic church is responsible for the change in the day of worship. Those who continue to worship on Sunday will receive the mark of the beast.

Let’s briefly look at these arguments. First, nowhere does the Fourth Commandment say that Christians are to worship on the Sabbath. It commands that we rest on that day: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work . . . For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it" (Exodus 20:8–11). Sabbath-keepers worship on Saturday. However, the word "Satur-day" comes from the Latin for "Saturn’s day," a pagan day of worship of the planet Saturn (astrology).

If a Christian’s salvation depends upon his keeping a certain day, surely God would have told us. At one point, the apostles gathered specifically to discuss the relationship of believers to the Law of Moses. Acts 15:5–11, 24–29 was God’s opportunity to make His will clear to His children. All He had to do to save millions from damnation was say, "Remember to keep the Sabbath holy," and millions of Christ-centered, God-loving, Bible-believing Christians would have gladly kept it. Instead, the only commands the apostles gave were to "abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication."

There isn’t even one command in the New Testament for Christians to keep the Sabbath holy. In fact, we are told not to let others judge us regarding Sabbaths (Colossian 2:16), and that man was not made for the Sabbath, but the Sabbath for man (Mark 2:27). The Sabbath was given as a sign to Israel (Exodus 31:13–17); nowhere is it given as a sign to the Church. Thousands of years after the Commandment was given we can still see the sign that separates Israel from the world—they continue to keep the Sabbath holy.

The apostles came together on the first day of the week to break bread (Acts 20:7). The collection was taken on the first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:2). When do Sabbath-keepers gather together to break bread or take up the collection? It’s not on the same day as the early Church. They tell us that the Roman Catholic church changed their day of worship from Saturday to Sunday, but what has that got to do with the disciples keeping the first day of the week? That was the Roman Catholic church in the early centuries, not the Church of the Book of Acts.

Romans 14:5–10 tells us that one man esteems one day of the week above another; another esteems every day alike. Then Scripture tells us that everyone should be fully persuaded in his own mind. We are not to judge each other regarding the day on which we worship.

Jesus did keep the Sabbath. He had to keep the whole Law to be the perfect sacrifice. The Bible makes it clear that the Law has been satisfied in Christ. The reason Paul went to the synagogue each Sabbath wasn’t to keep the Law; that would have been contrary to everything he taught about being saved by grace alone (Ephesians 2:8,9). It was so he could preach the gospel to the Jews, as evident in the Book of Acts. Paul had an incredible evangelistic zeal for Israel to be saved (Romans 10:1). To the Jew he became as a Jew, that he might win the Jews (1 Corinthians 9:19,20). That meant he went to where they gathered on the day they gathered.

D. L. Moody said, "The Law can only chase a man to Calvary, no further." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law so we are no longer in bondage to it. If we try to keep one part of the Law (even out of love for God), we are obligated to keep the whole Law (Galatians 3:10)—all 613 precepts. If those who insist on keeping the Sabbath were as zealous about the salvation of the lost as they are about other Christians keeping the Sabbath, we would see revival.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

20:10 But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:

20:11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The word is remember. Yes the world has forgotton the Saturday sabath.

Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

66:23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

revelation14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

According to scripture, christians are not required to keep a sabbath. However, the jewish sabbath would be from sundown friday until sundown saturday since they use the lunar calendar.

Used to be till the early Christians changed it so Sunday and said Easter would be on Sunday and God allowed it. Youre thinking of the Jews.

via convention, maximum church homes keep the assumption of the Sabbath, yet rejoice it on Sunday rather of Saturday via fact Jesus arose on a Sunday. the classic Hebrew regulation (which starts with the ten Commandments) replaced into, for Christians, old via the grace of God via Jesus. that does no longer recommend that Christians act in procedures opposite to the concepts of that regulation (love of neighbor - humanity - precludes homicide and stealing, case in point), yet they are no longer held to the letter of the regulation. rather, they could stick to the concepts underlying the regulation - summed of in the two Hebrew and Christian scriptures via fact the affection of God and love on neighbor. yet Christians are no longer held to Hebrew nutritional regulations, case in point. God needs us to set aside time for worship, relax and community. which would be carried out at any time.

sunday is, fairly obviously, the day of the sun. the sun is the planet of leo. leo is the sign of the most extraordinarily excellent folks on the planet. not only are we amazingly humble, but also creative, courageous, generous and sexy. only a fitting tribute, i say. mmmmmwmmmwwwhwhahahahahhahahahah. i can see all of those proper and truly humble virgos and capricorns (and oh so tense and self righteous, and incredibly boring and not too bright christians ) grinding their teeth in frustration. mmmwwwwhwhahahahaha cheers! :-) p.s. it should have nothing to do with the "christians" and their pious drivel. it is the honor discussed. heheheh

"Christians usually called Sunday the Lord's Day (because they observed it as a weekly memorial of Jesus Christ's resurrection) or "the Eighth Day" (because of the Christian belief that Christ's resurrection on the day following the seventh-day Sabbath is a portal to timeless eternity that transcends the seven-day weekly cycle)."

first off, not all Christians believe that Sunday is the holy day....7th day adventists are Christians and worship on Saturday......the reason why the rest of us worship on Sunday is in celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ....died on Friday, rose again on Sunday.....it's not that we think it's the holy day.....it's just when we worship.....i don't believe that God would strike us down for going to church on one day of the week over another anyway

Who cares as long as one day is holy (if that's in your religion)? Did God name the day Saturday and then specify that day as the sabbath?

Why are you trying to prove something that comes from a vary controversial book, when it is nothing more than human choice, man o man God must really shake his head at some of these questions I sure know I do.

you know what it doesnt matter. all God wants you to do is set aside a day for him. be it a wednesday or a monday doesnt matter. whatever YOUR 7th day is...

and by the way folks the 7th day of the week is a saturday so dont say its because sunday is the 7th day. its actualy the first. monday is only the first day of the work week. ^^

I've questioned that myself and the answer i got was that is the day that christians chose to honor the sabbath. It doesn't matter as long as you give one day to honor God.

By thinking that Sunday (or Saturday) is the holy day, they get to think that the other six days are not.

.... but christians doesn't value the Shabat since their semi-God Jesus told 'em it was OK to violate the Shabat. They have sunday as holy day, cuz they think Jesus was resurected on a Sunday.
