Question:
How can there be only one 'god'?

With as many people and belief systems, how can anyone really say their god is the only one?
I think it's pretty closed minded and arrogant that christians get to pretty much rule religion when they're religion isn't the oldest and when you study its history, you can see how it absorbed parts of several other religions it deemed, 'wrong.'
With all the religions in the world, why do we all have to comply with the over-handed influence of cristianity, like places closed on sunday, like life stops then... (People do still HAVE to work then, the world doesn't stop for a day like their god did)

Psalm 82:1

God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. (KJV)

God hath stood in the congregation of gods: and being in the midst of them he judgeth gods. (Douay-Rheims)

I don't think there is. :) To me, it's more logical to have multiple gods. And if there's not, then atheism seems a lot more logical to me than monotheism. If I weren't a polytheist, I'd be an atheist; nothing can convince me that monotheism is correct. So far as I'm concerned, there is no "one true god" or "one true religion;" all are valid for those who follow them.

Of course, while I believe all gods exist in some form or another, I don't believe that any of them are "all-powerful." Nor do I believe that any of them are responsible for creating the universe; whatever started everything else also brought the gods into being, most likely some variation of the Big Bang, until a better theory comes along.

Also it's important to remember history: Christianity didn't "win" any "war of ideas." They came to their dominance through violence, force and theft, plain and simple. Here's an example from just one culture:

Well, your kinda ignorant for focusing on Christianity rather then Judaism.

Anyway, as far as the Jews are concerned the proof is in the cards. Every time they stopped worshiping GOD and worshiped some other god things got really bad. Correlation may not equal causation but there is a pattern.

Also Jews are the longest lasting culture ever. They defy the cultural cycle by still existing. By all rights they should be culturally dead with just some leftover remnants of their culture.

As for all the rest of religions, I used process of elimination personally. Wicca, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, all have major problems.

Christianity and Judaism don't.

In the name of God, I start my answer. My friend, this question gives an answer that has an endless loop. You ask who created this God, and who created the God who created this God, and who created the God that created the God that created the God, and you'll never stop, so it's easier to follow the holy scriptures, and go according to them. Besides, isn't it easier to understand that there is one God, than to complicate it and think, know, or learn that there is more than one God? I got motivated by all these Christians referring to the Bible, so I brought something from our book, the Holy Quran. Hope this is not offensive, this is just what it says, and I thought I would share it, please don't take this as an offense. In the name of God, the most merciful, most compassionate, "Say: He is Allah, the One and Only! Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him." In the name of God, I finish my answer.

Shourded,

The least I can say to you is: At least you've did your home work and got the facts before you speak.

I would say, If many of them would do the same as you and to do so with a open mind, they would no doubt have a different conclusion as well.

It is true there is but one God, but he is not the God of Christianity, God Is ALL IN ALL, there isn't anything that is not God.

He's Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddism, Voodooism etc.

Everything is ONE or ANOTHER Expression of God, What do you call him ? YHVW / YHWH Yahweh.

This name means: He who cause to exist. Therefore, it's one God entertaining himself with all these different manifestations.

First you'd have to define what makes a God, then you can make a better decision. Assuming you believe that there are at least two all powerful gods than could one destroy the creation of the other, if so than one wouldn't be all powerful, so two or more only raises more questions and seem to be all that much more unlikely.

Jews, Christians, & Muslims, all believe in the GOD of Abraham.

GOD is the Creator of the universe & everything in it.

He did not create any other gods; but there are angels & demons.

Demons are fallen angels who masquerade as gods to deceive.

(Joshua 24:15) Now if it is bad in YOUR eyes to serve Jehovah, choose for yourselves today whom YOU will serve, whether the gods that YOUR forefathers who were on the other side of the River served or the gods of the Am′or·ites in whose land YOU are dwelling. But as for me and my household, we shall serve Jehovah.”

(Isaiah 42:8) “I am Jehovah. That is my name; and to no one else shall I give my own glory, neither my praise to graven images.

(Isaiah 45:5) I am Jehovah, and there is no one else. With the exception of me there is no God. I shall closely gird you, although you have not known me,

I think the last verse speaks for itself

As for how old the Jehovah's Witness's are ...

According to the Bible, the line of witnesses of Jehovah reaches back to faithful Abel. Hebrews 11:4–12:1 says: “By faith Abel offered God a sacrifice of greater worth than Cain . . . By faith Noah, after being given divine warning of things not yet beheld, showed godly fear . . . By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed in going out into a place he was destined to receive as an inheritance . . . By faith Moses, when grown up, refused to be called the son of the daughter of Pharaoh, choosing to be ill-treated with the people of God rather than to have the temporary enjoyment of sin . . . So, then, because we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

With reference to Jesus Christ, the Bible states: “These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God.” Of whom was he a witness? He himself said that he made his Father’s name manifest. He was the foremost witness of Jehovah.—Rev. 3:14; John 17:6

You are deceived. Do you actually think that it is up to the whims of man what GOD will or will not be?

the nice thing about free will and intelligence is that by Choice, You dont have to do anything you dont want to, and you dont have to worship anyone you dont want to, and You dont have to even worry about wondering about the kinds of things you wonder about.

There are two kinds of beings (and you'll have to think about this paradox): those who have all knowledge, and those who don't.
