Because Jesus rejected them. They were no representing God. They stood in the place. Commended themselves, but were doing horrible things to God's people.
Cheating them, mistreating the widows and orphans, presenting heavy burdens on them that they weren't willing to move themselves,
they showed no mercy, yet they showed favoritism to the wealthy.
Those faithful like Anna were humble hard working ones looking for the messiah at that time and they were able to be shown that Jesus was indeed the Messiah.
So here he was face to face with the Pharisees and Saducees, humble riding on a mule, and condemning them.
Jesus turned over their money making tables in the temple, he called them "sons of vipers" and "blind guides" all the while healing the faithful, and feeding the sheep. ANYONE that seemed to show faith IN THE CREATOR was shown mercy and given promises.
The religious leaders SCHEMED up reasons to put Jesus to death "UNDER THE LAW"
Can you imagine? JESUS WAS THERE CREATING THE EARTH,
he was there WHEN THE LAW WAS WRITTEN.
HE was the REASON the law was written the way it was.
And he KNEW their hearts and the advantage those in power were taking.
And he exposed them. And they HATED him for that and sought to shut him up.
So to cover their IMMENSE sins, they made up more lies.
And they say JESUS was NOT the messiah.
Even though the ones THAT PUT HIM TO DEATH, admitted he was GOD's Son...
To cover their sins, and the fact they lost God's favor once for all time..
46 About the ninth hour Jesus called out with a loud voice, saying: “E´li, E´li, la´ma sa·bach·tha´ni?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 At hearing this, some of those standing there began to say: “This man is calling E·li´jah.” 48 And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge and soaked it with sour wine and put it on a reed and went giving him a drink. 49 But the rest of them said: “Let him be! Let us see whether E·li´jah comes to save him.” [[Another man took a spear and pierced his side, and blood and water came out.]] 50 Again Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and yielded up [his] spirit.
51 And, look! the curtain of the sanctuary was rent in two, from top to bottom, and the earth quaked, and the rock-masses were split. 52 And the memorial tombs were opened and many bodies of the holy ones that had fallen asleep were raised up, 53 (and persons, coming out from among the memorial tombs after his being raised up, entered into the holy city,) and they became visible to many people. 54 But the army officer and those with him watching over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things happening, grew very much afraid, saying: “Certainly this was God’s Son.”
Matthew 27:46
They would have had to admit what they had done. And they were not willing.
