Question:
Which Religion in your opinion is best?

Yeah, i know this has the potential to go terrible in just a couple posts...But i am curious about religion. I wasnt really ever raised one way or another. My mother was raised one way, my step father the other, and my bio father was raised a completely different way. My mother decided that i should be allowed to choose my own religion when i became of age. I have studied a bit of catholic/christian/aetheist religions, but i wanted to know what the best religion is in your eyes, and basically why you think so. I'm really looking for as many options as possible, so i can research them myself, in my own time. Thank you :)

Only one of the earth's religions, Christianity, possesses all of the following attributes:

1. Other religions revolve around their founder’s teachings, rules, regulations, and rituals. Christianity, however, revolves around a Living Person, the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.

2. Christianity is unique because it is based upon historical facts and the revelation of God in the Bible.

3. Christianity is the only religion that offers the Assurance and Security of Salvation

4. It is the only religion that teaches that salvation is a free gift of god’s grace. There is nothing a person can do to merit salvation, since it is received through faith, apart from works.

5. Other religions were started because of man’s attempt to search for the supernatural, search for the truth, appease their innate sense of sin and guilt, and find favor with his god. But Christianity is the account of God’s search for mankind. "For the Son of Man has come to see and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10; John 10:10). His love for us was the reason He has revealed Himself to us through His Son Jesus and by His grace we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9).

6. It reveals God as the Triune God - God as the Father, God as the Son, and God as the Spirit

7. Christianity is exclusive in its claims. How is Christianity Exclusive?

A. The God of Christianity is claimed to be the only true God (Jeremiah 10:10; Jude 25).

B. The Bible is claimed to be the Word of God and the only true revelation from God (Isaiah 8:20; Revelation 22:18-19; 2 Timothy 3:16).

Some have claimed that the bible is no more accurate that Homer's Iliad. I respectfully disagree and the table shown at the link below clearly demonstrates my argument that the Bible is one of the most accurate sources for the events described in it.

Investigation will also reveal that there exists NO SINGLE SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY that has been shown to prove error, factually or doctrinally, in the Bible. There is lots of speculation and hypotheses, but not a single verifiable fact.

To make this claim alone is quite a feat for ancient texts, but when you add to it the fact that the Bible was written over more than 1,500 years by forty vastly different writers, yet every book in the Bible is consistent in its message. These 66 books talk about history, prophecy, poetry, and theology.

No human beings could have planned such an intricate combination of books over a 1,500-year time span. Bible manuscripts (remember, there were no printing presses until 1455) have survived despite weather, persecution and time. Most ancient writings written on weak materials like papyrus have vanished all together. Yet many copies of the Old Testament scriptures survived. For instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls contain all books of the Old Testament, except Esther, and have been dated to before the time of Christ. Now consider Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Only ten copies written about 1,000 years after the event are in existence. In comparison, there are over 24,000+ New Testament manuscripts, the earliest one dating to within 24 years after Christ.

The Bible also validates its divine authorship through fulfilled prophecies. An astonishing 668 prophecies have been fulfilled and none have ever been proven false (three are unconfirmed).

An honest study of biblical prophecy will compellingly show the divine authorship of the Bible. Further, archeology confirms (or in some cases supports) accounts in the biblical record. No other holy book comes close to the Bible in the amount of evidence supporting its divine authorship.

C. The Biblical Way of Salvation is the only way of salvation. There is no other way (John 3:36). No matter how good, religious or sincere a person may be, unless he or she has faith in Jesus they will not be saved. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

D. Jesus Christ claims to be the only way to God, the only way of salvation and the only way to eternal life in heaven (John 3:16-17). Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6).

First, atheism isn't a religion, it's a choice to have a lack of faith.

I am Catholic and should probably say that Catholism is the 'best' religion. I don't think it's the 'best'. I believe it's the one, true religion to knowing the one and only true God. But I don't think a religion is what make it, it's the people in the community. It's the individual. Look at Christianity, history shows us many wars and deaths. Priests sold indulgences. Some Catholic priests have been molesting young altar boys & the Church kept it hush-hush for years. Look at Judaism, history shows us wars and killings, stealing, embezzling. Recently some rabbis were found to have been pedophiles. Look are Islam, the same. So I don't think anyone can say one religion or religious group is the best or even better than another. It's how the people are with their faith. True religious people are loving, caring and loyal and devote their lives to God. That's my opinion. Peace!

In the name of Allaah Most Benefit Most Merciful

All praise be to Allaah the Lord of all worlds

May Allaah's peace and blessing be upon His prophet, his family and companions

1. Go to http://www.islamreligion.com

You have here the section 'Comparative religion' Its about the relation Islam-Christanity

2. Go to http://www.islamhouse.com/

There are many books and articles here. There's a nice book here called:'Answers to non-Muslim' common question about Islam'

3. Go to http://thetruereligion.org/

Also, many info can be found

These are my favourites, I recommend to all. Beside the question related to Islam itself, the relation of other religion-systems is being desribed here.

4. http://www.answering-christianity.com/

The main topic here is the Christianity, but you ofcourse have answers to to atheism. Although I'm not oftten on this site, but manyinfo is here collected.

I honestly wish you, that you realize the truth, and that you find the Light. All religions aren't the same, they teach different beliefs. It's pure logic, not all can be true, they can only be similar in some ways. When you have doubts on something ask someone else, even the most clever people need help.

I ask you to to think about Islam. Islam teaches the man and woman, the perfect moral, the best way to achieve the best on this world and the Hereafter. I don't say this just like that, for every this point, I have an ayat - a verse from Qur'an - to mention. You'll find many info on the sites I mentioned. If you still have something to ask, I'm all ear!!!

''Let there be no compulsion in religion: truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most trustworthy hand hold, never breaks. and God heareth and knoweth all things.'' Qur'an, 2:256

''truth has (now) arrived, and falsehood perished: for falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish.'' Qur'an, 17:81

And all praise be to Allaah the Lord of all worlds

And may Allaah’s blessing be upon His prophet Muhammad, his family and companions

Religion in the theistic sense is poison. Organized religion masquerades as a "harvester of souls," when all it really is, is a money-making enterprise scamming a whole lot of mindlessly gullible and wretchedly desperate "souls." Most ancient religions have not survived and have been relegated to mythology and folklore. Today's religion will also be tomorrow's myth. Unfortunately, another one will spring up in its place and continue to perpetuate the human conflicts born from religious differences. That is the way it is.

Well, in all reality no religion is good. Most of them have their "extras" but some do follow the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was raised catholic, but renounced that religion because of the false teachings, such as idol worship, etc. I am now a born again Christian and we call ourselves followers of Jesus. We only follow scripture out of the Holy Bible (KJV) 1611, the only Bible that has never been messed with. The NIV, NKJV, NLT and those are all corrupt ones that have had scripture and words removed and twisted. As far as a church to go to, I have found that the Baptist one is the best one as long as they don't practice charismatic healing. I also like the Baptist Bible study groups. I usually fellowship with ex-Hutterites and Mennonites and we women wear Mennonite dresses and head covers when we worship and study, but I also go to Baptist Bible studies with my friend. Just go into a church and taste the fruit. Look around and see if they study the true word of God and teach salvation through Jesus Christ. Here is a website that has alot of religions listed. When you get to it, click on "false religion" you don't want to be locked into false teachings. Yes, there is a God, there is Heaven and there is also a hell whether people want to believe it or not.

In my opinion, the best religion is the one that makes sense to you, fulfills you emotionally and spiritually, and helps you be the best person you can be. The same religion will not fulfill this need for everyone.

You might find the Belief-O-Matic quiz over at Beliefnet.com helpful in determining which religion or philosophy is a good fit for you:

It's fun, and it matches you up with a wide variety of religions and philosophies based on your answers, with write-ups for each one. The results can be very surprising.

Unitarian Universalist is my choice. An open to many beliefs and judgment of none religion that believes there is no right or wrong path to God but many different ones.

I think regardless of the religion you choose it is the congregation that will either keep you going back or not. If you feel welcome and enjoy the message you get it is a fit.

Religion comes from the Latin word ralingary, which literally means to relink. What it is is mans attempt to relink himself to a Holy God.

Religions stink. Try a relationship, one that is real and easy. True Christianity is the only one that works in relinking man to God. It is based solely on a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Blessings!

I think Shinto is the better. Everything has it's "special god". That special god is found in the nature of what it is. ie. A rock or stone has a "kame" whose nature says it is a stone. Can't be anything else. So the nature of an object or thing is contained in its special god (spirit or kame)

That doesn't mean there are millions of gods out there, only millions of natures to learn. It is the nature of the spider to eat flies. Do you think the fly god cares.

You will also find that the roots of Zen-Buddism is remarkably clost to Shintoism which preceded it by 500 years.

It doesn't matter much so long as you don't join some stupid cult like scientology. All the majors teach some version of the golden rule and everything else is commentary, as the saying goes.

I like to think that how we live is more important than what we believe. Better to be an ethical atheist than an unethical Christian.

I think the better question is, in God's opinion who is exercising true religion? And to find out you have to ask him in prayer. Afer all he is the one who will dictate what is truth and this we can examine through his word the bible. So I think an earnest prayer to God to let himself be found by you and let him know your desire to learn about him because you want to serve him is a good start.

I myself also faced the same quandery when I was growing up. My mother was Morman, My Father was agnostic, My grand parents were baptist.

I found solice in finding my own understanding of "GOD" as being the light within myself. I have chose to live a life that is guided by helping others and living a path that follows the teachings of not only Jesus, but also of buddha and mohamed. There is not one single path. We all must find our place with in ourselves and find a balance with "GOD" . If you believe in the "GOD" of christians, jews and islam, then you must realize that man has a free will, as given to us at the time we ( Adam and Eve ) ate the fruit of knowledge. "GOD" ALLOWED us free will to free us to worship as we deem fit. Though he may wish for more from us. For those that want to claim this is blasphemy. Oh well, I guess I will be judged BY the father and not by them. For those are the same weither they are christian, jewish or islam, They are fanatics that are only doing selfservice to themselves.

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

The original, unchanged revelations given to Abraham and other prophets(like Moses and Jesus ) reaching back to Adam all came from the One True God(The Creator). This common origin explains their similarities in many beliefs and values

However, over time the teachings of the various religions, due to a variety of reasons, have become distorted and mixed with made-man ideas.

The last Prophet and Messenger of God, Muhammad , who is a direct descendant of Abraham through his first born son, Ishmael, was sent with the Last Guidance, Revelation and Testament, the Holy Qur'an(koran) to amend and correct the changes and corruption made to the the "Torah" which was sent to Moses and theTrue Gospel of Jesus. To say the truth ,God preserved all the other Holy Books plainly by preserving His Last Book the Holy Qur'an(koran)which contains the right and the truth of all that was changed in those other Books.

This is why this last Revelation which was sent 1423 years ago has remained unchanged, not even a word or a letter has been altered.

There is not even one word of difference between two Arabic Qur'ans, anywhere in the world. There has been no disagreements in history among Muslims as to what should and should not be in the Qur'an. However, in the case of the Bible, even the most ancient manuscripts conflict with one another so that no two are identical. Footnotes in all modern versions of the Bible prove this fact.

These revisions serve as concrete proofs that all the Biblical books are not at all divinely inspired. This is because it is beyond man's ability to correct the work of his Creator, who alone is Almighty and perfect

It was only natural for Almighty God to preserve the scripture revealed to Prophet Muhammad, because he was the last Prophet and Final Messenger of God.

Islam teaches us that we must pray directly to God without an intermediary and no soul can bear the burden of another and that the nature of humanity is good, and we did not inherit sin from Adam. Each soul comes into being free of sin.in Islam there are no priests or clergy -- each worshipper, man or woman, has a direct relationship with their Merciful Creator -- Almighty God. Since God is the Owner and Sustainer of everything, as well as the only one who can provide true and complete forgiveness, it is completely futile to try to approach Him through anyone else.

The oneness and universality of God's message requires that people accept all the messengers of God. Rejecting one of them amounts to rejecting them all. The Jews reject Jesus's mission and Muhammad's mission; the Christians reject Muhammad's mission; whereas the Muslims accept them all, but reject incorrect historical interpretations and human elements in these missions.

As the Qur'an is the final revelation and Muhammad is the final prophet, humanity is obligated to accept it: "If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost all spiritual good" (3:86).

The Final Prophet Muhammad said: "Whoever believes there is no god but God, alone without partner, that Muhammad is His messenger, that Jesus is messenger of God, and that Paradise and Hell are true, shall be received by God into Heaven."

you can do that now as you are reading these lines is to pronounce the two confirmations and attestations of faith, here it is

I BEAR WITNESS THAT THERE IS NO GOD WORTHY OF WORSHIP EXCEPT ALLAH ( ARABIC WORD MEANS ONE GOD-THE CREATOR). AND I BEAR WITNESS THAT MUHAMMAD IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER. I BEAR WITNESS THAT JESUS IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER.

The right picture of lslam is conveyed in the Qur'an, which is exemplified by Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The reality is that it is not fair to judge a religion by the actions of its followers alone because there are good and bad followers in every religion. The correct thing to do is to judge a religion by its documented revelation from God and the prophet who brought that revelation.

I encourage Christians and other religions to learn about Islam from Muslim sources and The Basis Of The Muslim Belief and not rely on second hand information which in many cases is distorted or contains a deep seated anti Muslim agenda. This is indeed a more scholarly approach

I like Buddhism, because it does not concern itself with dieties, but awareness. Buddhism will improve the practice of any religion because it helps you learn to train your mind. It tells you to observe, and be a lamp unto yourself. It helps you see unskillful behavior not so much as sinful, but simply unbeneficial. Compassion is merely correct. You learn to notice the effects of your thoughts and choices causing the reality in which you live. You learn not to suffer when no one is beating you and you are not starving or cold. Imagine.

I would rule out all the eastern religions whether we're talking about Buddhism or Hinduism or Taoism or whatever. All those religions are pantheism. Those religions are premised on the idea that the universe is eternal. It has always been here. Science itself has proven that wrong. The big bang is the start of the universe. It's the start of the 4 dimensions(3 dimensions of space and 1 dimension of time). About 95-98% of the scientist believe in the big bang. Either they're right and all the eastern religions are wrong or the eastern religions are right and the scientists are wrong. Take your pick. I'll go with the scientist since I don't see any reasons for believing in the eastern religions anyhow. That leaves christianity, judaism and islam.

Why not Islam?

? Because I don't believe Islam is a true revelation from God. Islam and Christianity disagree drastically. They both say they are coming from God. They can't both be true, not if they disagree. The 1st law of logic is the ‘Law of Noncontradiction’. It says that if 2 concepts diametrically contradict each other, they can’t both be true. One of them has to be wrong. They disagree in many, many places. Let's just take one of those disagreements. Christianity says that Jesus Christ died 2000 years ago on a cross and that's written in their Holy book, the Bible which they say is coming from God. Islam says Jesus Christ did not die on a cross 2000 years ago and that's written in their Holy book the Koran(which they also say is coming from God). My question is, what actually happened 2000 years ago? You can't have it both ways. Either he did die on a cross or he didn't die on a cross. If he did then Islam is not a true revelation from God because Islam says he didn't die on a cross and it says that's coming fromGod(can God be wrong?). If he didn't die on a cross than christianity is wrong. Why should I believe Muslim scholars who came much later(over 600 years later) over the apostles and writers of the New Testament who were either eye witnesses or they got it from eye witnesses(regardless, all of them lived during that time period). Also, the church fathers and early scholars of the church all testified that he died on a cross. Even extra biblical historians such as Tacitus, Suetonius, Pliny the younger, Josephus and other historians who lived during that time period have testified that Jesus died on a cross. Actually, the only historians that you'll ever find anywhere(religious or secular) who will say that Jesus didn't die on a cross are Muslim historians. If i'm reading an eye witness account of a speech that Richard the lion-hearted gave in about 1190AD and you come up to me and say "no, that's not what he said.....let me tell you what he really said". My answer to you is going to be "why should I believe you over him....he was an eye witness.........you came along 900 years later".

The idea that the scriptures were changed as they were copied is also bogus. The dead sea scrolls proved that. Before we found the dead sea scrolls in 1947 the oldest copy of the book of Isaiah was from about 1100AD. In the dead sea scrolls we found a copy of Isaiah that was copied in the year 100BC(1200 years

earlier). Now we could compare the 2 scrolls and see how many errors were made in 1200 years of copying. The 2 scrolls were 99.5% the same. In 1200 years of copying there was only 19 letters(not words) that were different. Remember, the book of Isaiah was a big book that had 66 chapters and it had only 19 letters different after 1200 years of copying. None of those letters changed the meaning of the book in any way. These guys didn't make errors. This was not just any book. In their eyes, it was the word of God. There were curses attached to people who changed it in any way. Besides, the guys who copied it were professional scribes. They did this for a living.

How do the Muslims explain these differences between the bible and the Koran? They say (against all evidence) that the christians and the jews deliberately corrupted the bible. I've already shown you why that isn't true.

That leaves Christianity or Judaism. Personally I think they're basically the same religion. The main difference is that both of them talk of a Messiah. The jews are still waiting for their Messiah. The christians say that they shouldn't be waiting because their Messiah has already come. His name was Jesus. They just didn't recognize him(but they will someday, the bible makes that clear and, in fact, many of them already have....they call themselves Messianic jews). I just don't see how you can read passages like Micah 5:2, Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah chapter 53, Isaiah 7:14,Zechariah 9:9,Zech. 11:12,13,Psalms 22:1,6-8,14-18, Zech. 12:10,Psalms 16:9,10 and not see that Jesus was that Messiah.

There are other reasons why I believe Christianity is the truth.

The Bible has the signature of God attached to it in many ways. One of those ways is Bible prophecy. The old testament has 333 prophecies about the first coming of Jesus Christ and 456 specific details about his life(all written between 400 and 2000 years before he was born). The 4 gospels in the new testament(Mathew, Mark, Luke & John) tell the story of jesus. Had those 4 gospel writers chosen to not write their gospels, we could still have re-created the whole life of Christ just from the old testament(all written before he was born). In fact, that is how the christians preached the gospel in the first 20-30 years after the death of christ. They preached it from the old testament because the new testament had not yet been written. Man sees history like a person sees the Rose Parade sitting in the stands. The floats that have already gone by him are like the past. The floats in front of him are like the present. The floats still coming are like the future. These prophets in the old testament who wrote about Jesus Christ seemed to be able to see history the way you would see the Rose Parade from a helicopter. They seemed to be able to see the end from the beginning. That tells me that though they were writing these things down the info was not ultimately coming from them but from a higher source because man simply doesn't see history that way. Also, the bible has amazing knowledge about many scientific principals long before these principals were discovered. Seventeen times in the old testament the bible says that God is "stretching the heavens". For thousands of years bible scholar struggles with what that could possibly mean. Then in 1929 Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe was expanding. The bible told us that long ago.

No other religion or Holy Book has this king of knowledge. All this tells me that these prophets in both the old and new testament were not nutcases but true prophets of God.

Good for you to study the matter. My advice: adhere to none of them. No religion can prove any of its precepts to be either true or false. It provably follows that no religion can have any effect in the real world, and all are useless; you may as well spend your time on doing something interesting or useful.

Christianity. Now with that being said, it's not for the sake of being 'religious' that is good. Jesus never said that you had to be 'religious' to be saved.

He said that you had to believe in Him, and then you'd be saved. So trust God through Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.
